I: There are different countries in the world that do not have the freedom of speech based on their political situation. In some countries people are killed for criticizing their government. They are not allowed to have an opinion and to share it with the world and in public. That is one of the biggest issues that the modern world faces.
R: The Freedom of speech is protected by the First Amendment such as, freedom of press, association, assembly, and petition. It is the foundation of a vibrant democracy, and without it, other fundamental rights, like the right to vote, would not exist. It does not include for example the right to incite actions that would harm others and to make or distribute obscene materials.
A: Freedom of Speech does not
It can be argued that freedom of speech should be allowed in society for two main reasons. Firstly, freedom of speech is regarded as a basic human right. It is stated in the Universal Declaration
Freedom of speech gives people The right to free speech, which is one of the most precious rights an individual has as a citizen of the United States of America. This right gives people the opportunity to speak their mind and give their opinions of what they think should happen. These rights have been questioned and exercised throughout history and have produced extremely positive things in a lot of cases. The questioning of these rights are
Being expression one of the most important rights of the people to maintain a connected society right to speech should be accepted to do so. The first amendment is one of the most fundamental rights that individuals have. It is fundamental to the existence of democracy and the respect of human dignity. This amendment describes the principal rights of the citizens of the United States. If the citizens were unable to criticize the government, it would be impossible to regulate order. By looking freedom of speech there is also freedom of assembly and freedom of press that are crucial for the United States democracy.
The First Amendment of the United States Constitution gives the American people the right to Freedom of Speech, as stated in the Constitution: “Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances.” What is Freedom of Speech? It is the right to both verbal and non-verbal communication of thoughts and ideas. The people of America have the right to Freedom of Thought and Freedom of Expression.
Under the First Amendment, we as Americans have protected rights known as Freedom of Speech. How I see Freedom of Speech is it gives us the right to voice our own opinions without any retaliation or repercussions. An example in which Freedom of Speech may be utilized is before, during and after a Presidential Election. Many people will have their own opinions about how they see each Presidential Candidate fit or unfit. Alot of times after people exercise this right, Rallys and Protests occur. Unfortunetly sometimes when this does happen, boundaries are overstepped. This can result in threats, crimes, slander ad even people getting
Freedom of speech, Barendt (2005) mentioned, is one of the basic rights of any human being. The entitlement to express one’s opinion and view on anything without the fear of being harassed or penalized by the authority is ensured by this act. For many centuries common people were denied this right. Even now many countries prohibit its citizens to practice this fundamental right. USA is one of the countries, which is known for being vocal about civil rights and freedom. Therefore it is no wonder that the country’s constitution has given special attention to Freedom of speech. Freedom of expression and freedom of rights are uttered under same breath. They have subtle differences. The broad definition of right of speech allows an individual to communicate any idea, the medium being his/her body and property to whoever is interested. Freedom of expression additionally includes receiving, passing on and searching for information through any medium. The first amendment shields the freedom of speech right of the American citizens. Although there are several clauses to this practice, yet USA is one of the countries, which have provided its people with the freedom to put forward their
“Freedom of expression is a fundamental human right. It reinforces all other human rights, allowing society to develop and progress. The ability to express our opinion and speak freely is essential to bring about change in society.” Freedom of Speech grants you the right and privilege to speak your mind without facing any type of consequence . I strongly believe that censorship and the lack of free speech can and will cause a negative effect on our world.
Freedom of speech is perhaps the most precious tenets of liberal democracies accorded to the citizens of the free world. The United States, and the rest of the Western society is known to be the cradle of democratic principles, and this can be evidenced by the level of freedom accorded to the citizens of the United States and the West in terms of speech. The freedom of speech gives an individual an opportunity to speak his or her mind and also give his or her opinion, sometimes on very sensitive topics, without any fear of reprisal (Melkonian, 2012).
When Americans are enjoying this freedom, some others abuse it to make it become worse. Therefore, people have fight for their interests by having argument that freedom of speech should be restricted or be developed. First of all, what positive impacts of free speech bring back to Americans. People feel free to express their opinions and feelings without fear. If they cannot tell their opinions, they will threat others to listen to them. Violence can be happened if freedom of speech is banned. According to “Why Freedom of Speech Should Never Be Restricted · Thomasassatly”, the author states “in order for a society to truly be free, free speech should be accepted and encouraged”. Americans were born with many freedom, freedom of speech is one of the most wonderful freedom that people have. Therefore, if they do not have freedom to express their opinion in the peaceful way, they will threaten others to listen them. Moreover, when they have no power to say what they think, they cannot be critical of government’s decisions. If they try to speak out against their government, they might be put in jail. North Korea is one of the best example for this situation, “if you speak out against the government you end up in a prison camp” (“Why freedom”). People should feel free to say whatever they want, because it is a freedom nation. If someone takes away this freedom, not only
While the aforementioned First Amendment theorists began their careers many years ago, I find that their ideas remain relevant today. In fact, I have infused some of their theory into my own beliefs about free speech. I support absolute liberty of expression with only two exceptions: national security and defamation. My opinion is a result of studying the political and individual rationales for free speech. Politically, I feel it is common sense. It is impossible to have a democracy when one must fear that stating his or her opinion will result in a prison sentence. In addition, a nation’s citizens must be able to have open discussions on political issues if they are to make informed decisions in running the United States. I am more passionate, however, about the right of self-expression. The need to
Among other cherished values such as religion, petitioning, press and assemble, the First Amendment protects freedom of speech. The U.S. Supreme Court often has struggled to determine what exactly constitutes protected speech. The First Amendment states, in relevant parts that, “Congress shall make no law...abridging freedom of speech.” Below are a few examples of the rights of what freedom of speech includes and the rights it does not include, along with the acts that were passed along with it.
“In the United States, freedom of speech and expression is strongly protected from government restrictions by the First Amendment to the United States Constitution, many state constitutions, and state and federal laws. ” There are many little right that base on the idea of freedom of speech which penetrating in our daily life.
Freedom of speech immediately brings up in mind the First Amendment. The First Amendment protects the freedom of speech, meaning we are able to express freely in any form of communication with no worries of getting in trouble. For example, we have the right to petition the Government for a redress of grievances freely. There have been some conflicts with the First Amendment and censoring materials. But problems with freedom of speech are not as bad as other areas in the world “One example is the ‘so-called right to be forgotten,’ which allows negative information to be deleted from the Internet. Abrams stresses that even repugnant statements are more broadly protected in the U.S. speech than under many European democracies.” (Abrams, 66).
The freedom to talk, the freedom to dance, the freedom to express one’s feelings are what’s most important. In Amendment One, of the Bill of Rights, the American right and freedom that which deserves celebration is Freedom of Speech -- giving each American citizen an equal opportunity to express his or her opinions about any topic. Our Founding Fathers insured that the new American government would not restrict their ability to express their thoughts or ability to criticize the actions of their government without censorship; because, they truly understood what life was like living under a government, where they had no voice and laws were enacted prohibiting their freedoms. Freedom of Speech however costly led to a more successful America. It allowed people to speak out against injustices. It allowed people to become more diverse by hearing other people’s opinions about different topics. People in America felt pride and value this right because, at the end of the day, they felt as if the government truly cared somewhat about their well-being and state of life. It provided the right for candidates to criticize the current government and
I feel like freedom of speech is a very important constitutional right, because it lets people have the right to speak freely. Unlike other counties where you can’t speak up for what you believe. You have the individual right to say in what u believe. Like, you have the right to drop out in ninth grade like 21 savage. However, you might believe in not fighting in a war. But for the common good you will fight in that war. “I stay on the flight deck until we dock’ -(Memories Of Vietnam)..One of the good things about living in America is you have the individual right of freedom of speech.
