In the tragic play Romeo and Juliet, by William Shakespeare, there is one character that is completely at fault for the catastrophe that occurred. There are many logical and emotional reason why Friar Lawrence is guilty. There is also one character that is not at fault, and that is Romeo Montague. Friar Lawrence is definitely at fault for the tragedy in Romeo and Juliet. In the play there are a ton of logical reasons for why Friar Lawrence is guilty. A great example would be when Juliet come to talk with Friar Lawrence about how she could get out of her second marriage to Paris. Juliet said that if Friar Lawrence does not help her she would kill herself. After she said this Friar Lawrence came up with a plan. Friar Lawrence said, “Take thou …show more content…
He set up the wedding for Romeo and Juliet. Friar Lawrence agreed to help with the wedding. He was talking to Romeo about the wedding late at night. He said, “But come, young waverer, come , go with me. In one respect I’ll thy assistant be” (2.3, 96). Friar Lawrence knew about this wedding and he did not say anything about it. If someone knew about this previous marriage than Juliet would not have all the pressure on her to marry Count Paris. Then, without that pressure Juliet would not have seen the need to kill herself. This is very emotional to the reader because it is a wedding. Usually weddings do not end with the bride and groom both killing themselves. Another emotional reasoning of why Friar Lawrence is the guilty character would be because he left Juliet in the tomb by herself. Friar Lawrence was in the Capulet tomb with Juliet and deas Romeo at the end of the book. He said to Juliet, “ Come, go. Good Juliet. I dare no longer stay” (5.3, 164). If Friar Lawrence did stay with Juliet or take her with him Juliet would not have killed herself. He could have persuaded her to move on and remember she is only 13. Those were two emotional reasons why Friar Lawrence is completely at
Another reason why it is Friar Lawrence fault because why did he not tell Romeo that Juliet is still alive. Another example is Document C it states “ And, is thou darest, I'll give you the remedy.” In this quote it is saying that Friar Lawrence gave Juliet a remedy to act dead on the wedding day so she does not marry Paris. If Friar Lawrence did not give Juliet the remedy Juliet and Romeo would still
These three reasons, along with others, prove that Friar Lawrence is to blame for the events that occur in Romeo and Juliet. He married young Romeo and Juliet together, which emotionally tied them to each other. He gave Juliet the escape idea and the sleeping potion. He also failed to inform Romeo of the rescue plan. He could’ve been a very desperate man in search of peace in Verona, but it led to the deaths of many; including those of the star-crossed
Friar Lawrence knew about Romeo and Juliet getting married. He could have stopped them from getting married if he wanted to but he never stopped them. Also he made up a plan to get Juliet out of marrying Paris. He says “Hold then.Go home, be merry, give consent to marry paris.”(4.1.90) because this is his plan to get her away. Friar Lawrence made a potion for Juliet to drink so she can act dead. Lastly he tried sending a letter to Romeo even though he was banished. The letter was to get Romeo to come back and get Juliet even though he was banished. These are the reasons why Friar Lawrence should be
Friar Lawrence is responsible for the deaths of Romeo and Juliet because Friar could have told everyone that they were married and he gives Juliet the potion. This conflict could have easily been resolved if Friar Lawrence would have been truthful.
First of all, Friar Lawrence explicitly knew better than to do many of the things he did. First, he should not have agreed to marry Romeo and Juliet so quickly. Romeo wanted to marry Juliet after
Actions that are hurried and not deeply considered can lead to devastating results. In William Shakespeare’s Romeo and Juliet, this is what happens. The tragic events that occur are the result of most of the characters’ actions, but who is most to blame? Friar Laurence is the character most to blame for the tragic events that happen in Romeo and Juliet because he secretly married Romeo and Juliet, allowed Juliet to drink the sleeping potion before he was certain that Romeo knew about the plan, and left Juliet when she saw that Romeo died.
In “The Tragedy of Romeo and Juliet” written by William Shakespeare the character Friar Lawrence was the most at fault for the tragic ending. The first reason that Friar Lawrence is responsible for Romeo and Juliet’s tragedy, Is that he is a selfish and greedy man. He only wanted to bring them together because he wanted to be the hero of the town. The second reason that Friar Lawrence is responsible for Romeo and Juliet’s tragedy is that he rushes their marriage, He should’ve waited for them to really get to know each other. They’ve kissed twice and never been on a date or even have a normal conversation. Friar Lawrence only rushed them into the marriage because he wants to be the hero as fast as he can, he doesn’t even think to consider the consequences of what he is doing. If the marriage doesn’t work out, He could be forever hated by the families and he wouldn’t be the town hero. Friar Lawrence is a foolish man.
While his intentions may have been noble, his actions demonstrate a lack of foresight and consideration for the consequences of his actions. By marrying Romeo and Juliet without the knowledge or consent of their families, Friar Lawrence sets in motion a chain of events that culminate in tragedy. There is ample evidence in the play to support the argument that Friar Lawrence is to blame for Juliet and Romeo's deaths. Not only does he play a central role in their ill-fated love story, but his actions directly contribute to the tragic outcome. One piece of evidence that points to Friar Lawrence's culpability is his tendency to act impulsively and without fully considering the consequences of his actions.
Every play has tragic endings and there is always someone to blame. In William Shakespeare's play Romeo and Juliet, the two main characters in which they have a tragic ending and someone to blame, like friar Lawrence. Friar Lawrence was the main one to blame; he was the one that got Romeo and Juliet married in secret, he was the one who gave Juliet the potion to “die,” and chose an unreliable person to send the letter to Romeo. Friar Lawrence thoughtlessly got Romeo and Juliet married when he knew they had a family feud. Claim a. Friar Lawrence agreed to help as he hoped “so happily prove to turn your households Rancor to pure love “Even though Friar Lawrence wanted to help out the families he still did it in secret which was a bad because it causes more damage than good This was one of many times Friar Lawrence made a mistake of agreeing to help them which when he shouldn't have When Friar Lawrence found out that Lord Capulet wanted Paris to marry Juliet, he suggested a plan to Juliet and offered her a potion.
He just wanted the feud to end. Romeo and Juliet weren’t of concern. Friar Lawrence continued to be guilty because he married Juliet to Romeo before Paris. That is a sin and a penalty for his job. Juliet proves this by saying, “What if it was a poison which the Friar hath administered to have me dead”.
Firstly, Friar Lawrence makes a naive decision despite knowing better and having a paramount amount of wisdom since he thought it would end the families’ feud, this is exemplified when he says, “Holy Saint Francis, what a change is here! / Is Rosaline, whom thou didst love so dear/, so soon forsaken...” (II.III.65-57)? Friar Lawrence is exclaiming about how quickly and absurdly Romeo has moved on from Rosaline to Juliet. He is very skeptical on helping Romeo. He chooses to help in spite of his better knowledge not to. In other words, Friar Lawrence could have prevented the entire disaster by not helping Romeo, and advising against his actions. Shakespeare illustrates some irony on the account Friar Lawrence is against Romeo in marrying Juliet initially. Moreover, this portrays a reoccurring motif and theme of which is do not doubt your gut instinct. In addition,
Friar Lawrence should be punished because he knew about Romeo and Juliet’s marriage and did not tell anybody about it. Friar knew about it the whole time and did not tell the parents of Romeo or Juliet. Another thing that he did was keeping it to himself and only Friar and Nurse knew about the marriage. “Come, come with me, and we will make short work, For, by your leaves, you shall not stay alone Till Holy Church incorporate two in one”(2.6.36) Another reason that Friar should be punished is because he goes behind the Capulets back and makes a plan with to fake Juliets death. He does this by telling her to go to sleep alone and drink the potion. The last reason he deserves to be punished is that he tells Romeo who is banished from Verona, to come back to see Juliet. He should be punished because he told Romeo to come back to
Friar Lawrence plays a major role in Shakespeare's play, Romeo and Juliet. Through his lack of organization and judgment, Friar Laurence is highly responsible for the deaths of both Romeo and Juliet. He is a member of a group of wise priests that only want good in the world but, at the end of the play, you realize that Friar Lawrence makes many mistakes throughout the story. There are three major points that lead to the that's of both Romeo, Juliet, and even Mercutio. The first was the marriage of which Friar Laurence had questionable intentions, the second was the plan that Friar Lawrence thought of which was risky and could have been taken care of another way, and finally the last is the disorganization and miscommunication responsible

He is always looking out for people in need. When Romeo comes to Friar Lawrence because Romeo thinks he is in love with Juliet. Friar Lawrence takes his opinion into consideration, and tries to help him out, at the best of his abilities. Some critics argue whether or not it it was his fault for their death. It was truly his fault. Friar Lawrence is guilty for the death of Romeo and Juliet is because he gave Juliet the potion, he knew how Romeo would react the way he did, and he had left Juliet by herself when she found out Romeo was dead.
Friar Lawrence was the most responsible for the death of Romeo and Juliet in several ways. He was just out of his mind. He made not only one mistakes, but many mistakes that all caused Romeo and Juliet's death. First of all, he made one major mistake that he could have prevent. He trusted a teenage girl, Juliet. Teenagers aren’t stabilize, and the most scaring thing is that most of them don’t think of the consequences of love. Friar gave her fake-death poison. This is crazy! This decision was a very poor choice on the Friar's behalf. Here, he shows his irresponsibility by saying, "If... thou hast the strength of will
