Aaliyah Rosales Mrs. Heun 5th 17 April 2024 TITLE “It is in your moments of decisions that your destiny is shaped” (Tony Robbins). One of William Shakespeare's most famous plays is Romeo and Juliet. Shakespeare’s ability to imbue his character’s distinctive traits twists his playwrights. Notably, Friar Lawrence is a character with unique characteristics. Friar Lawrence is viewed as a reckless individual whose actions and disobedience to church laws contribute to pivotal events in Romeo and Juliet. Friar Lawrence has various personalities. Friar is viewed as problematic, such as breaking vows (Bryant 65). He is also a dishonest and untrustworthy person (Silka). In addition to this, Friar Lawrence is also impulsive. A quote from author James Bryant once said, “One would expect that the function of the truth is to speak truth” (Bryant 66). Friar is not bright but spontaneously engages in religious love affairs, such as manipulating Juliet’s parents and also instigating or contradicting the truth (67). Friar Lawrence also acts without considering the possible outcomes of the hidden marriage (Cardullo 63). Apart from the friar’s various personalities, friars' mistakes and his poor decisions with the church laws are related to the outcome of the play. One of the church laws Friar broke was that he still approved of letting Romeo and Juliet get married. The friars did it without their parents' approval (Brenner 69). Breaking any law, can lead to a three year suspension (69). Another law that was broken was that there would be no secret marriages. Which friar proceeded not to follow (Bryant 65). Apart from disobeying the church laws, he made many other mistakes.
