Gun Control
Throughout history, there have been many gun related crimes all around the world. Guns are a big part of our Countries history -- most of America’s turning point battles were decided with firearms. When America gained its independence, they fought with guns; when America was attacked at Pearl Harbor, we turned to guns in order to seek vengeance. Without guns, we would not have won half the battles our Country fought in; without guns, our Country would not have a successful military. But because of guns, there are also tragedies where many citizens have been killed in shootings all around America. Because of this, guns have been seen as a tool of evil, and that only evil people use them for crimes. A side effect of gun violence in

Concealed carry is not for everyone, but those who choose this lifestyle understand the benefits of having a concealed firearm on them at all times. The benefits of having a firearm on you is that it is there for when you need it and it lets the individual have a way to protect themselves as well as others. The cons of having a concealed firearm is that you have to adapt to the lifestyle and you have to realize that you are responsible for that firearm and everything you do with it. You may also have to change the way you dress because of the firearm, you don’t want it to be easily seen or distinguished but you still have to remain comfortable everywhere you go. Personally I believe that the pros outweigh the cons because I’d rather have it and not need it than not have it when I need it. Over the years, concealed carry has helped lower crime rates because people were armed with guns so they were able to stop threats. For example Florida started to issue concealed carry permits and “Firearm-related violent crimes in Florida have dropped by one-third in just four years, 2007 to 2011, while concealed carry permits jumped by 90 percent in that period. Further, violent crime of any kind dropped almost as much, 26 percent.”(Adelmann) This just shows how effective concealed carry is and because of it violent crimes dropped by 26 percent. Not only does concealed carry have an impact on Florida it also changed Chicago’s crime rates as well. In Chicago crime rates have a fairly decent amount because of Illinois granting permits to people. “Since Illinois started granting concealed carry permits this year, the number of robberies that have led to arrests in Chicago has declined 20 percent from last year, according to police department statistics. Reports of burglary and motor vehicle theft are down 20 percent and 26 percent, respectively. In the first quarter, the city’s homicide
Imagine at this moment seeing a loved one walking out those doors, perhaps the last time, and later in the day finding out he/she has been in a brutal shooting accompanied with other civilians. People having to think if there’s a way to stop the violence that is happening in the society and there is a way, but it is not enforced. Gun control is needed in this society, because civilians are living in fear wondering if it will be the last time being in this world and having the presence of gun control can reduce crime such as gun trafficking, mass shootings, and homicides.
Guns and weaponry have always been a major part of the cultures of the world since the beginning of time. For the United States of America, gun use can be traced back to the colonial days, our revolutionary roots. They have helped the United States turn the table specifically in times of dire need such as the Revolutionary War. Not only have advances in weaponry influenced the U.S., they have also helped to shape events across the globe. In 1791, this was understood by the Founding Fathers while writing the Constitution, which can be seen in the Second Amendment: “A well regulated militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed”[1]. With the advancement of guns specifically, there has been a rise in mass shootings, casualties, crime and controversy that has begun to split the United States. All a person has to do is turn on the television to a news channel, and at any given time, heartache, most often linked to guns, can be found. Some cry for a need for better gun regulation or sometimes complete abolishment for recreational use, while others cling to their weapons with claim of self-defense and economic profit. Violent crimes have been on the rise years; there has been an estimated 1.2 billion crimes of violence that occurred in the United States alone [2]. One thing is certain: gun trade and regulation boosts the economy. Last year, 301,
Control is bad. The more control there is the less freedom we have. There are a lot of people that may say that gun control works, the simple fact is that those people do not know the difference between an assault weapon and an assault rifle. A assault weapon is a term used to describe a weapon that shoots one bullet per pull of the trigger, a assault rifle is a rapid fire, automatic weapon designed for the military use and sometimes confused for an assault weapon. Why would we listen to someone who does not have any knowledge about anything on the topic that they are trying to argue.
Guns are major part of living in the United States of America. The U.S alone has 35% to 50% of the world's civilian owned Firearms. More than likely you have at least one in your house. As more and more guns are being produced and sold in the U.S more anti-gun activists are pushing for increased gun control but the facts show that more gun control actually means more gun related violence. There is no doubt that there is a problem with gun related violence in the U.S. but there is a perception that it has suddenly worsened but in all reality things are better that they have been in decades. Once again on the news you will hear that 30,000 people killed last year with guns. What the media does not say is that of those 30,000, 20,000 of those people killed themselves with a gun. Some of these facts are shocking to hear. Even though gun control is the first thing we turn to when gun related violence occurs the negative factors are far greater than the positives.
The gun control debate has grown more heated than ever after the February 14th school shooting at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland, Florida. The question on everyone’s minds is, does America still need the second amendment? The answer may be yes, but it needs to be more restrictive than it is now. For example, one can buy an assault rifle when they are 18 but cannot drink or buy a handgun until they are 21 years old. Why can someone be able to buy an AR-15 when they are considered not mentally ready to consume alcohol? Why are ordinary citizens allowed to buy an assault rifle at all? Gun control should be more restrictive because studies have proven that America is far more prone to gun violence, which is most likely caused by Americans having an excess of firearms. However, the background check is not necessary.
The United States Gun laws need to be actively strengthened to protect and prevent harm against citizens by creating more thorough background checks, mental health checks, and more licenses specifically for different types of assault weapons. Several mass shootings have been caused by legally purchased guns caused by background checks without intensive research. With stricter gun laws harm and massive tragedies would be prevented or have more protection and safety. New laws and mandates would change the environment of gun safety and protection.
What is gun control? Gun control are policies that restrict, posses, or modify the use of firearms. I am against the possession of firearms because firearms have caused many injuries or deaths here in California although we have many rules towards the use of firearms. The use of weapons is not really a necessity for us as citizens the only ones who should be able to possess weapons should be the authority meaning the police, the army, the navy, and etc. Firearms shouldn't have to be fired unless you have to in order to defend you or your family from a serial killer or a maniac.
- For decades gun control has always been a very controversial issue in America. The Second Amendment states it is an individual's right to bare arms and by having stronger laws on guns, that would only be taking their right away, However, we have seen violent crimes rise due to guns, we have seen many people lose their lives and get hurt. Americans should be for gun control because it can help prevent school shootings, stronger regulations can help stop gun loopholes, and stronger laws can make it harder for people that have a bad record to get a gun. With the enormous amount of violence in today's society, individuals need to take a stand demanding stricter regulations on guns.
People all across the world are debating about whether to require the start of reducing gun violence. Guns have always been a part of American culture, even before we became the America we know today. In colonial times and the days of the Wild West, guns were an essential part of survival. They were needed to kill animals for food and to protect against unwanted trespassers and predators. However, in these modern times, because we have conveniences such as Hannaford and organized police systems, guns have gone from tools of necessity to novelty toys. For the most part, people own guns in this century for sporting reasons or to protect their families and home from intrusion. The simplicity of a gun and the lack of effort it requires owning
I believe that we have a right to have guns. It is an amendment and also a right to have then. They were trying to take that from us and we did not stand for it. I think that we all should keep our guns and weapons because it solves nothing.
Lastly, a vast amount of crimes are committed with a gun involved. For instance, school shootings, which often times end in fatalities, occur. In 1999 at Columbine High School, two male students decided to bring guns to school and shot many students. The first victim and fatality was a girl named Rachel Scott. She was shot because she refused to deny God. This death was unjust, especially considering the positive impact that many of her classmates claim she made in their lives. This is not the only influential school shooting. With the shootings that followed, schools have increased security measure, yet gun laws are not changing
Gun regulation has been a controversial topic since they were first established as a weapon. People for and against gun regulation provide strong arguments for their side. Gun regulation has fluctuated over time due to changes in office. Being a democracy prevents us from having consistency. As a nation we continue to change regulations on guns because of the different views our democracy allows us to have. The main aspects pose the most problems in gun control are violence, illegal sale of guns, and mental health checks.
“What country can preserve its liberties if their rulers are not warned from time to time that their people preserve the spirit of resistance. Let them take arms." - Thomas Jefferson, letter to James Madison, December 20, 1787. This quote relates to the Second Amendment of the United States Constitution. When Thomas Jefferson sent a letter to James Madison on December 20, 1787. However, our Second Amendment rights are in jeopardy. Some people believe that more gun laws should be enforced by the government. Most people believe that if the government does this, it will reduce gun deaths and mass shootings. When in fact, adding those laws infringe upon our right to bear arms as read in the Constitution of the United States. Moreover, some people believe that enforcing those laws will
Guns have been apart of the human race for centuries now. They provide a means of survival and furthermore, protection. Though, some may disagree with that and I think otherwise. If we could live in a world without guns or weapons of mass destruction, I think everything would be a tad bit more at ease. Unfortunately, it doesn’t seem that way and it probably won’t be that way for a while. However, that doesn’t dismiss the fact that the crime rate is higher in states that have strict gun laws, that guns prevents mass-genocide, and that guns provide a means of protection and survival.
Gun control in the United States has been a subject that many most likely will argue about. In the field I hope to enter into, as an event and security operations manager, you feel as though it’s your fault when something horrific and uncontrollable happens in your arena or building. 31% of global mass shootings occur in the United States (Fox, 2017). This percentage gives the US an idea of how much people are affected by gun control and how much fear is put into the lives of everyday Americans. Does this statistic make people afraid to leave their homes everyday? Or? Should this statistic help one see that there’s always some type of risk taken everyday even if it doesn’t involve gun violence. Should security be heightened when a large population is going to be attending a sporting event or a concert? I, myself truly believe that it is not the arenas responsibility to think the worst in different situations and that security protocol does not need to be heightened when it is already obtained in a way that makes all guests and workers feel safe.
