Football is definitely dangerous. In my opinion, knowing others would disagree. I would have to say that football shouldn’t be played in High school because of how bad the injuries are. High School football players brains are still developing and them having a concussion is worse than it is for a collegiate player. Yes, football can be made safer but will it ever be completely safe?. A former N.F.L player who is also an author of several books also doubts that football will ever be safe enough.
More High School football players are injured than collegiate players. 4 out of every 1,000 high school football exposures resulted in injury. That by itself says a lot about football and how dangerous it is. In “How Dangerous Is High School Football?” it says “high school football players sustained a greater proportion of season-ending injuries, fractures and concussions compared to collegiate football player.” There are ways to reduce those injuries but there is no guarantee that it would work.

Although most football players died due to C.T.E, one football player was diagnosed with C.T.E and he’s never had a concussion. Which raised a lot of questions. It’s worse for teens to have concussions because their brains aren’t fully developed and can easily get damaged. Coaches need to keep the injured players off the field for a longer amount of time, till they are fully and completely healed. Football is so annoyingly dangerous that not even during the actual games do they get injured but also during their practice. Those who love football obviously have an obsession but if they look more into it they’d realize how dangerous it really is like the former N.F.L player, Michael Oriard who says that football can be made but he’s not so sure it can be made safe enough, and that’s coming from a former N.F.L
Is tackle football too dangerous for kids who aren’t even fully developed? Back then, when it came to sports, safety was never one of the main concerns. For example, baseball was played for over half a century without requiring helmets. Recently, society has started to worry about future generations and whether some activities will have long-lasting effects on them, such as football. Although many are advocates for safety, others are arguing that kids should be able to play what they want. While tackle football has been proven to be detrimental to the youth’s health, especially for children under the age of 13, critics have questioned and discussed whether other sports are going to be next and how they can possibly prevent football’s future modifications.
A great majority of kids and adults football careers are ending shortly because of brain damage and concussions. To this day scientist and people in sports are trying to find a way to decrease the number of brain damage and concussions. There been so many head injuries in the game of football. It got real serious over the past 20 years. In the NFL and College football league, players and coaches can know if someone have a concussion because of the technology they have at the game. It’s mandatory for every team in college, and in the NFL to have doctors and the technology they have at each game they have.
In recent years, there has been a backlash from all kinds of doctors throughout the world that believe the National Football League or NFL needs to make adjustments to the way they treat head injuries, specifically concussions. A concussion is a brain injury characterized by an onset of impairment of cognitive and/or physically functioning and is caused by hits around the head and neck area. This NFL is under destress because of numerous studies that show concussions can lead to a large amount brain injuries way after the player has played his last game. However, this isn't just a problem the NFL is facing, the real problem is our youth contact sports and head-related injuries. High school athletes are extremely more exposed to concussions than
Football is an extremely dangerous sport that causes countless injuries each year. Some injuries can cause brain trauma and could even lead to death. Football is a risky sport that is too dangerous for students to play. It causes head injuries, players continue to play with injuries causing them to be far worse, and students are not educated enough on the dangers of football. Football causes numerous head injuries each year.
In source 1 it states football may cost one's health and one's life. This is one of the most riskiest reasons why football is extremely dangerous. One's life has a family and would not want that to happen to that specific person. Another reason why football is extremely dangerous is because one can suffer from memory loss. According to source 1 "Weighing the Risks" it states most players suffer from memory loss.
I’m still deciding if football is truly dangerous due to the story of the young man dying of a brain disease that caused over time due to long-term head collision(the Hard knocks page), got me worried, and the thing is he showed no concussion issues when playing from a child to an adult and this can be an issue as young athletes can show no sign of an injury to the head or pain coming from within his/her brain so they can run the chance of dying, from an interior part of their skull just because they showed no pain when it was developing(the pain), and I’m not going to use their “take one for the team” example as it is irrelevant to those coaches who actually care about their players when they have taken enough pain or damage from a game, anyway if a player does not get themselves checked for the disease then they can lose their life by playing something that they love doing, this disease I mention is called CTE the article also mentions that some NFL players have died from it and this young man has died from it but the odd thing is that he showed no pain or damage to his head and also showed no emotional issues the mother didn’t mention.
Even though concussions are a major issue in the sport and causes students not to be able to do some of the curriculum in school. Football should be allowed at a high school level. Students do better in school so they can stay eligible to play in the sport. It also teaches valuable life skills. High school football has been in families and towns for years, even though the sport is under attack because it is slowly fading.
Have you ever thought about the safety of your friends or family that play such a rough sport such as football, and are scared that they can have an injury that can permanently hurt them forever such as a concussion that can ultimately lead to a brain disease. Well that is the reason why not as many parents aren't letting their kids play football. At little league and such a small age they aren't happening as often but are still an issue but at a bigger stage such as the NFL they are a huge issue and occur more than they should. Ever since the NFL and Riddell have been making stronger and supposedly safer helmets concussions have been happening more than ever. Also researchers from (“Frontline”) say about
“The overall injury rate in NCAA football is 8.1 injuries per 1,000 athlete exposures. There were more than 41,000 injuries and 25 million athlete exposures.” There are more than twice the injuries in football than there are in basketball. This will continue to rise if the NFL, NCAA, and all schools around the world don’t take initiative to protect their players. Many people believe that football should be readjusted to where injuries are no more. However, injuries will happen no matter how protected the player is, which is why some people want the sport to be banned for good. In the article “The 5 most dangerous sports for boys”, Lauren Shanley states, “It’s estimated that every year, doctors treat 389,000 musculoskeletal injuries in players ages five to
Concussions are one of the main immediate dangers of football and are very common. By a recent study, it was estimated that high school students suffer 11.2 concussions for every 10,000 games played which is much more than other contact sports. Also, twice as many high school football players suffer from concussions than college players annually. This is probably one of the most daunting statistics because a person's brain is not fully developed until the age of 25 and it has been proven that underdeveloped brains are more prone to serious injuries than fully developed ones.(talk about death from football somewhere here)Aside from concussions, There are many other injuries aligned with high school football such as knee injuries which is also most common among football players when compared to all other high school sports- nearly 20 percent of players and nearly 40 percent of those players knee injuries will require surgery at some time. Concussions and knee injuries are just two of the many physical injuries associated with high school football.
The safety of young football players for years has been a long growing concern and controversy for parents, players, high school coaches and school officials, and as well as NFL coaches and medical professionals in America. Parents worry about their children getting injured or concussions during the game. Furthermore, many parents believe that football can be safer and that the organization of football is not doing enough to protect players and their safety. However, to some football players concussions are not a big issue. Some players are too worried about their playing time to realize the consequences of getting concussions repeatedly. Therefore, some football players do not tell the coaches about their concussions. In addition, coaches also have a problem with the safety of football affecting their programs. Some coaches fear that football programs will shut down because of the controversy of how football can lead to brain damage. Besides parents, players, and coaches, doctors have a big say in the controversy. Neurologists, who are specialists in the disorders of nerves and the nervous system, have recently studied the link between football and brain damage. According to Jacob Vanlandingham, who is the founder and president of Prevacus Incorporated, a company who primarily studies concussions, said that “Doctors diagnose approximately 67,000 concussions in high school football players every year” (Vanlandingham, p.1). Nevertheless, some stakeholders, including ex-football players, believe that everything has already been done to make football as safe as possible. Football organizations have made new rules and placed new programs in order to keep young players healthy and to keep football programs from shutting down. The big controversial question that all stakeholders are asking is, “Is football doing enough to protect young children?”
In the three sources we’ve read about whether football is too dangerous for high school students to play in high school, I disagree with it being too dangerous. If playing football is too dangerous in high school, then it should be dangerous for the N.F.L players to play as well. They're more aggressive and train harder as opposed to high school players. It can cause lots of concussion. Or possibly worse injuries than concussions.
Did you know thousands of athletes gets hurt during football practice and also the games? Well here is a couple things that can happen when people play football .For a fact there are at least 12.2 fatalities in college than in high school. Yes, American football is risky for players because…. Some concussions lead to permanent brain injury, repeated concussions increase a person's risk in life, but not only american football can hurt people.
Doctors say that this is where kids are most likely to get a concussions that will eventually lead to CTE. Doctor Dompier posted of JAMA Networking where he said “one in 30 football players ages 5 to 14 will sustain at least one concussion per season.” These are starlling numbers though they may seem like not much one concussion a year can have many side effects of future play. And for every 10,000 games a practices in high school football 11 players a diagnosed with a concussion. Not including ones gone undocumented (Frontline, 2013). 11 may not seem like a lot but as of a study done in 2014 there are approximately 1,088,158 amatuer football players at the high school level in the United States. Assuming a regular football season runs from mid June and ends roughly around Thanksgiving that leaves hundreds of concussions a year that were documented. When is comes to high school athletics within most public schools in the United States allow everyone to equal opportunity to play. Leading to an increase in inexperienced players in the sports. This is predominant in football especially where students use improper form when hitting making extreme contact with the top of the head. Another factor to the increase chance of CTE in the future for athletes is that lack of not being able to afford sports doctors or especially in rural areas where the average income may be much lower. Being able to foot the bill for medical
High school sports come with a number of risks that students take as an athlete. However, none of them are as transparent as those that come with football. Because of the risk of traumatic brain injury, there is no doubt that football should be banned from high school sports. This is because of the apparent hazards of playing for an extended period of your life, the dangers of CTE, and the careers and lives ended by improper safety.
