I think the United States was justified in dropping the atomic bombs over Hiroshima and Nagasaki in 1945. I believe the United States was justified because the war had the possibility to take many more lives, from both the Axis and the Allied powers, than dropping the atomic bombs did. As Harry Truman said in 1963 "I stopped the war that would have killed a half million youngsters on both sides if those bombs had not been dropped.". Harry Truman did not show any regret even after having dropped the bombs because he understood the power of World War II and how many casualties could have been added if the bombs were not dropped. Dropping the bombs also allowed Japan to grow into a country with democracy and also a very economic country. If we
During world war two, the Imperial Japanese army forced an estimated 200,000 women into sexual slavery. This is just one of the many atrocities committed by Japan during world war two. Even though many say that the bombings of Hiroshima and Nagasaki were inhumane, the US was completely justified because the future casualties were minimized and Japan and its allies committed atrocious war crimes.
Aff: My first point is the events leading up to the bombing and the motives by all parties involved before the atomic bomb was dropped. I bet you are wondering how it is ethically justified to bomb a country? Well maybe if you heard the events leading up to the bombing you would agree. World war 2 started on 1st September 1939 when Germany invaded Poland. (Smith, J 2017, Online) The United States were not even involved until the Japanese Military bombed Pearl Harbour in Hawaii on December 7th 1941. I mean if you think about it, the Japanese brought it on themselves by beginning this feud with the Unites states. This was the date that marked the official entrance of the US into the war. (Atomic Heritage Foundation 2014, online). That is why the atomic bomb started being created in 1941 by Franklin D Roosevelt who funded the project, persuaded by Albert Einstein.( CliffsNotes n.d., online) Also if the Japanese had just surrendered the bomb would not
Whether the use of the atomic bomb on Japan during World War II was justified, we will never know. However, the amount of time spent on discussing the use and effect of the bomb seems to be nonexistent. If they talked about the bomb there was no major argument against using the bomb; with that came mystery because they did not understand the bomb. There were factors that they used as an excuse to use the bomb, but these were in the background and later added to make the argument seem more one-sided, in their favor. Whether the use of the atomic bomb proved helpful or not is up to debate. The atomic bomb changed the world, and given the evidence, the use of the bomb was not talked about in detail except for when and where to use it.
Some say the decision was moral and some say it was immoral. The people who think the bombing was immoral was because they think that the atomic bomb is the last thing for destruction on God’s scale. It is immoral to God’s creation of mankind. As the author of Nippon Times (Tokyo) said, a nuclear bomb “strikes at the very basis of moral existence” (Document 4). The author said that it is ethically wrong to bomb innocent humans and destroy mankind. But although the Japanese had to face poor conditions, the American lives were saved by President Truman. The decision was indeed justified on the United States standpoint but unfortunately the decision was immoral on the Japanese
On August 6, 1945 an explosion blew up the city of Hiroshima. It was reduced to rubble. In the months leading up to the bomb, WWII was close to being over. Germany had surrendered but Japan wasn't ready to give up without a fight. The USA issued a warning to Japan but Japan ignored it. The USA went ahead with their plan and dropped the atomic bomb from a B-29 which brought havoc to Hiroshima. The bombing of Hiroshima was justified because it saved American lives, the Japanese had been given an ultimatum and the bomb was a retaliation for the bombing of Pearl Harbor.
Dropping the bombs on Hiroshima and Nagasaki was justified under the information they had at the time. When criticizing the actions of the Truman administration one needs to consider the effect of knowledge in hindsight. Truman was working under the knowledge that dropping the nuclear bombs would bring a short and fast victory to the Pacific front of the Second World War. As the war had already ended in Europe by this time, leaders were looking to end the campaign in the Pacific as quickly as possible. From a cost benefit perspective dropping the bombs on Japan meant that very few American lives were lost, and the cost of building the bombs compared to the cost of a minimum six month continuation of fighting.Additionally, there was no testing
The use of the atomic bomb against Japan was completely justified in both cause and impact. An intense weapon was necessary to force a quick Japanese surrender. The bomb saved thousands upon thousands of American and Japanese lives that would have been lost if the war continued or an invasion occurred. The bomb was the only way to end the suffering of the millions who were being held captive by the Japanese oppressor. The weapon of mass destruction also sent a powerful message to the shaky Soviet allies. The choice to use the atomic bomb was justified because it compelled a Japanese surrender, saved countless lives, served as retribution for the sufferings of many people, and
On 6 August 1945, a B-29 Superfortress flew over the islands of Japan and unleashed the devastating power of the world’s first atomic bomb on Hiroshima, Japan. Was the United States justified in dropping the bomb? This depends largely on your point of view. I believe that the U.S. was justified in dropping the nuclear bombs for three main reasons. The first was the unprovoked viscous attack on Pearl Harbor. The attack on Pearl Harbor which had taken place three and a half years before Hiroshima was bombed had taken the lives of countless innocent soldiers with innocent civilians, including women, and children also perishing. The United States had not been involved in the war as
On August 6, 1945 the United States dropped the first atomic bomb on the Japanese city of Hiroshima. This was an extremely controversial military strategy in the United States. Was the United States justified in the dropping of the atomic bomb? The U.S. feared the rise of communism and gave aid to any country against it. The U.S. also fought countries threatening the spread communism. One of these countries was Japan. We began a harsh and brutal war against Japan and against communism. This war was killing many soldiers and Japan was not backing down. President Truman decided to use the atomic bomb when things were getting worse. The decision to use the atomic bomb was a difficult one and many people wonder if it was the right
On the 6th and 9th of August, 1945, the United States of America dropped the Atomic Bombs on the Japanese cities of Hiroshima and Nagasaki. The use of these bombs brought a quick end to World War 2, yet caused extensive damage to the two Japanese cities. There have often been disputes as to whether the USA was justified in the dropping of the atomic bombs because of the damage they caused, not only to the cities, but to the people of Japan as well. Many people believe that the USA should not have dropped the bombs because of the damage they caused, and they also claim that Japan was already defeated. However, Japan did not surrender, and prolonging the war was not an option for America, as it believed it would cause even more casualties, not only to American troops, but to Japan as well. Thus the USA was justified in dropping the bombs on Japan.
Firstly, the bombings were unjustified because of the locations where the bombs were dropped. Neither cities were military or naval bases. Hiroshima was
The dropping of the atomic bomb on Nagasaki and Hiroshima in 1945 by the Americans is a very controversial issue with no definite answer. Both sides of the issue have very justifiable arguments. Reasons for dropping the bomb include the fact that Truman’s options were limited at this point in the war, that the bomb did have the desired outcome of Japans surrender and that the majority of reasons America had for dropping the bomb are justifiable. On the other hand, the atomic bomb was complete new technology and there is no way that Japan could have possibly been ready for it and for that reason the dropping of the atomic bomb is very
The US was justified to a very limited extent when dropping the atomic bomb on Hiroshima during World War 2 as Japan had been on the verge of surrendering due to not having any allies, having its navy almost destroyed, its islands were under a naval blockade, and its cities were undergoing air attacks. However, the US believed that it had been their only solution due to the Japanese attack on the US naval base. The US also believed that it could be used to keep the USSR in line. Many people believed that the US had been justified in dropping the bomb as Japan had been continuously at war; with China, Britain and the United States. Due to this, the United States felt as if they had been obliged to stop the killing.
In my opinion the dropping of the atomic bomb on Japan was not justified because it caused many problems and issues that even today, affects all of us. The dropping of the atomic bomb was decided by Harry Truman the president of the US at the time. Truman thought by dropping the bomb it would make Japan to unconditionally surrender. The US did not how destructive the bomb really was until they dropped it on Hiroshima and Nagasaki. The US had chosen Hiroshima not only since it was a military target, but also because of how heavily urbanized it is.
During the end of World War Two, the first ever nuclear weapon was used by America. It was August 6th, 1945 when the first bomb was dropped on Hiroshima and only a few days later another on Nagasaki. These bombs were called Little boy and Fat man, which left Japan with a significant amount of damage. The destruction caused by the bombings was immense, to this day many still argue if the bombings by the US was justified. A review of information throughout history based on the conflicts between Japan and the US makes it clear that America was justified in its use of the atomic bombs.
