Is homework more destructive than helpful? After a long day of hard work at school, students come home and have to spend an extra 1-5 hours on their homework. Many students dislike homework and would be happier if it was gone. What if homework was not only tedious but harmful as well? Less than 1% of all students claim that homework is not stressful and this may be one of many reasons that schools should stop giving homework to their students. The government should prevent schools from giving students homework because it can cause a lot of harm in developing children by, increasing stress, consuming free time and being counter productive. Some people may argue that homework does more good than bad but this evidence opposes that opinion.

When students receive too much homework, they start to lose the motivation required to get through it. This study shows, “U.S. math teachers on average assigned more than two hours of mathematics homework per week”, this means that students get more than 30 minutes of homework from math everyday, not including the other classes they have. When a student is forced to keep up with such an excessive amount of homework everyday, they start to lose interest in doing it. In the debate homework good or bad I agree with the side of no homework. First, when homework is more time consuming then it maximises stress. Therefore, when kids have too much stress in their lives they can not want to complete work and act out. Clearly, it will cause stress if there continues to be homework. Second, It's not fair because some kids don't have the help or resources to complete the homework they are given properly. With that, kids will get worse grades on homework just because they don't have the help from parents or siblings that all the other kids have. Although this claim is proven to be valid, the fact stands that stress will not only be encountered during an average American student’s 12 years of schooling. In 2014, The American Institute of Stress released the statistics relating to that of a person’s daily life. From this data performed by the American Psychological Association, it was found that job pressure was- and still proves to be- the leading cause of stress in Americans. The category includes those who feel this job pressure from work overload in particular. Therefore, the stress that is caused from homework in students is actually preparing these individuals for the higher workload that they may face in their lives outside of school. Adults essentially face homework as well. Although it may not be identified as homework, many of these adults take home work from their job in order to complete it on time. Thus, the factor of stress does not prove as an effective argument as to why homework should be banned.
The majority of students have, at one point or another, wished for less homework. For some student’s homework is not a big issue but for other students it can take hours and even days to do all their homework. That wasted time could be used for enjoyment or learning life skills instead of homework. Nine in ten high school students reported feeling stressed about homework (Galloway 4). So, should students get less homework? Yes, students should receive less homework because it improves their well-being by reducing stress and its impacts on health, increasing leisure time, and showing that homework does not affect grades significantly.
“Homework puts pressure on both kids and parents.” The things students learn on a regular bases parents did not learn back when they were in school and if they did it had a new method of doing it. The stress level of kids always studying and doing homework on a daily basis is making them overwhelming. “Homework takes away our personal time no student wants to come home and do more work on what they were already doing for the past 6 hours anyway.”
It is a well known fact that students of various ages and schools are assigned homework, although the motive for giving said homework may vary depending on the teacher. However, the debate about whether homework is helping or hindering education is at a stalemate. Stated simply, homework is work assigned by teachers that students should complete at home or any other non-school setting. Just how effective is homework in the long run? Is it just adding unnecessary stress to students without truly adding enough positivity to make the homework worth it? Although homework can seem burdensome, it undoubtedly solidifies concepts learned in class and aids in the development of timeless skills such as time management and accountability.
When a class is almost over and a teacher starts assigning homework, every student's heart drops. When students have an excess of homework, they do not do as well. Even though homework is a good tool to help teachers teach students subjects, teachers should give less homework because too much homework causes mental health issues in students and less homework helps improve test scores.

Schools today give out homework like it’s candy. There are students who come home from a long day at school and immediately start their homework, only to finish it hours later. The vast amount of homework given out these days is insane, and should either be cut back or abolished altogether. The pressure put on students just to finish their homework is unnecessary.
