The book Mockingjay had been on the list of favorite banned books of 2011 and was ranked as number 3. This book takes place in a dystopian futuristic society where there were 12 districts (Thirteen before one was completely eradicated) that live in poverty and are all ruled over by the Capitol which contain people who are fabulously wealthy and ignorant about the fact the 12 districts are all starving while they are dressing in lavish over the top clothing and eating more than what’s consider necessary. Every year the twelve districts, in punishment for rebelling against the Capitol, are to send two teenagers between the ages of 12 and 18 one male and one female to the Capitol in order to participate in the Hunger Games. I think Mockingjay and the Hunger Games series are an amazing group of books that depict the story of one young woman who stood bravely in the face of danger. It inspires other young women in real modern day life to stand together as well and be strong. People also claim the books depiction of violence and war related themes are too inappropriate for younger teenage readers. I, however, view this as being totally irrelevant to how this would impact those that read the book. In the United States we are constantly surrounded with threats of war and we are currently experiencing violence within our nation with the riots in Ferguson. If people truly believe banning one book because they believe it would help stop a thought of violence within a young teens mind watch what happens when they take a look around the world and see the exact same violence. When something does occur in a book based versus it occurring in real life I strongly believe both will have different impacts and results. I disagree with Mockingjay being challenged and banned so much because I feel like it inspires people more than it supposedly negatively impacts

To Kill a Mockingbird was once a book “every adult should read before they die.” The book is a classic, and a great example of American literature. However, many have complained about the book, too. I’ve read it and I personally think that it’s great book. I totally disagree on banning the book. Although I do think that there should be some sort of label on the book warning people about what’s in the content.
Has anyone ever heard of a banned book? This book by Harper Lee, To Kill a
Because of offensive language and ideas that are represented in the book, To Kill A Mockingbird, it has been banned in many school libraries and lessons. One of the main reasons that it was banned in school is because of offensive words like the n-word and also because of the fact that the plot is centered around rape. One of the school board members, Kenny Holloway, said, “We can teach the same lessons with other books.” Many people agree with Holloway’s opinion, saying that the same ideas that are represented in To Kill A Mockingbird could be taught with a less controversial book. However, other people say that students are tough enough to handle the story. While many people don’t think that this book is appropriate for school, some people

Growing up is a maze with many twists and turns. In Harper Lee's novel, To Kill a Mockingbird, Jean Louise "Scout" Finch experiences many difficult situations as part of her coming of age. As Scout grows up in the rural Maycomb, Alabama, during the Great Depression, she faces problems with self-identity, racism, and her community. Harper Lee writes in a subtle yet impactful way about how Scout goes through this confusing stage, making her book a classic that every student should read. Recently To Kill a Mockingbird has been a controversial topic because a “school district in Mississippi announced that it was pulling the Pulitzer Prize-winning classic from its 8th-grade reading list” (Oprea 1). The school district worried that the book was uncomfortable for kids because of its use of explicit language. The school board stated that other books can convey the same lessons in more age-appropriate ways. The question is can these books convey the same lessons without using the language so vital in communicating the historical context of the novel. To Kill a Mockingbird is an important book that should not be banned in schools because it

How much should be censured by school systems and why are some books accepted while others are not? This is what some people think about when deciding whether or not to ban certain book from their school systems. Furthermore, why my topic on whether or not To Kill a Mockingbird should or should not be band in school systems is important to talk about because it is a book that has an enormous amount of people that argue over it. Moreover, people who want To Kill a Mockingbird to be band believe that the book has negative impacts on children's minds however people who don’t want To Kill a Mockingbird to be band believe that the book teaches important topics that is usually hard to teach students. In addition to this, To Kill a Mockingbird should not be banned from school because it teaches children good life lessons about empathy and doing the right things.
Have you ever wanted The Hunger Games trilogy, but you couldn’t as a result of your state challenging or banning the book? There has been much controversy over whether or not the novel To Kill a Mockingbird should be banned or not. This novel teaches students about the racism and prejudice of the 1930’s resulting in why the world is the way it is, as well as many important life lessons, therefore it should be continued to be taught in schools. The novel To Kill a Mockingbird should not be banned because it teaches about life in the past and why the world is the way it is now, proving that this novel has the ability to effectively educate kids about the past and potential impact of human behaviour.

To Kill a Mockingbird by Harper Lee has been challenged/banned countless times since it’s original publication in 1960. The reasoning people could have behind banning it is that they feel that the racism, language and subject matter in the book is offensive, inappropriate, immoral and that it encourages and condones such things. To Kill a Mockingbird takes place in Maycomb, a small town in Alabama, during the depression from 1935-1937, and is told from the perspective of a little girl named Scout. In the book Scout’s father Atticus teaches her and her brother Jem many valuable lessons. The things Atticus teaches Scout and Jem are things we all need to know. The Hunger Games, the movie, was adapted from the popular young adult novel by Suzanne Collins. The Hunger Games is sometimes described as another cliche love story for which the young adult genre is infamous. Despite appearances, The Hunger Games illustrates a complex and creative dystopian world with a much deeper underlying message, including topics such as, politics, history, and celebrity worship. The setting appears to be a futuristic version of America. This future America is very classist, and the tyrannical government is sure to keep the classes divided by heavily oppressing the working class. The working class is divided into twelve districts, which used to be thirteen districts until the thirteenth district was annihilated as a result of its uprising. In response to the thirteenth district’s resistance, the President created a game called “The Hunger Games” in an effort to instill obedience in the remaining twelve districts. Through the course of the movie, we learn that “The Hunger Games” are not only a mechanism to force obedience on the working class, but also to serve as entertainment for the elite society who live in the Capitol. The Games require 24 randomly selected children from the working class districts to fight to the death in an elaborately staged battle, all of which is filmed and broadcasted to the entire nation, working class and elite alike. Thesis: The Hunger Games, the movie, has a hauntingly feasible storyline and clear references to real
