Frederick William Robertson once said, “There are three things in the world that deserve no mercy, hypocrisy, fraud, and tyranny.” Napoleon Bonaparte, who ruled France after its revolutionary war, is known as one of the greatest military geniuses in history. His legacy as a genius might have been true, but his legacy as ruler everything of a despot. His actions were not beneficial and did not regard the potential and later evident consequences of his people and other nations. He established a code that would mostly benefit himself as a king rather than the people he governed, disregarded the need for a non-hereditary nobility and altered the economy in Europe.
Though it was in Napoleon's best interest in his establishment of the Napoleonic Code, the Napoleonic code did not benefit those that it would affect. For example, the Napoleonic code would be the cause of the 50,000 casualties and raise taxes to deal with the …show more content…

Napoleon thought that hereditary nobility would make the dynasty strong. Napoleon appointed his brothers to become kings. Joseph would become king of Naples and Jerome would become king of Tilsit. Napoleon’s everlasting need for control would cost the principle of equality that was established after the French Revolutionary war.
Napoleon did make irresponsible decisions, but he made beneficial decisions that supported France’s post-Revolutionary progress. As Napoleon says, “I am concerned for the happiness of your subjects, not only as it affects your reputation, and my own, but also for its influence on the whole European situation . . . (Document #5)” He also took steps to end corruption by starting a centralized government and supported laws that would strengthen the government.
