Why photoshopping is okay Did you know that only 60 percent of the time people can spot a photoshop? So really it doesn't matter to photoshop. I say that it is ok to photoshop in virtue of these 3 reasons: it improves your self esteem, how is photoshop different than makeup. And lastly, photoshopping has been around since George Washington. Here are my top three reasons on why photoshopping is okay. Improves self esteem: My first reason on why photoshopping is okay is because photoshopping is fun and it improves your self esteem. Many people say that photoshopping decreases your self esteem and I guess that is an acceptable point, but photoshopping can actually raise your self esteem more than deflate it. Many people on social media
Photoshop is known to fix even the slightest imperfections. This sets impossibly high standards for what women expect for themselves. Photoshopped images are destroying America’s body image. The media sets up high beauty and body standards for women. The media takes beautiful women and tells them they are not beautiful enough. Being beautiful nowadays is having a face covered in make-up, being “skinny” is having a thigh gap, and to be perfect is to have no flaws. Women need to start realizing they are beautiful with their flaws, but it’s a hard process to love your flaws and imperfections. Dove made a commercial about loving something as simple as your curls. A handful of young women (ages 5 to 11) were asked about how they feel about their
Photoshop has many uses. It is used to design posters and create art. However, it has negative uses too. For example, manipulating images. Manipulation using Photoshop to alter model’s bodies in the media negatively impacts society by creating an image that imposes an unrealistic body standard and is the root cause of recent adolescent eating disorders. Peoples of all genders are impacted by the modification of model’s bodies. Whether it be one is not skinny enough or one does not have enough muscle, it generates a frequent belief that one’s body is not good enough.
In my opinion, this makes it harder to appreciate the original efforts of the creations someone is “perfecting”, and can explain why fewer people appreciate what was high art in the past. It’s even gotten to the point where people choose to “redesign” celebrities, as shown by the Johnny Cash Project. Neal Gabler of the Los Angeles Times stated that fans of the renowned folk singer can “share their vision of Johnny ‘as he lives in (their) mind's eye,’ by providing an image of him and a customized drawing tool to reimagine it”. Even in terms of Photoshop and its correlation to beauty, writer Rachel Ann Dennison published an article titled: “Is Photoshop destroying our perception of natural beauty?”. Dennison answers this question with a resounding “yes” under the title, implying that she thinks modern photo-editing applications ruin how people around the world view beauty, and thus, how people view art. Current technology has changed how people see and appreciate art as a whole, and I think this phenomenon proves how society's standards for high-quality art have altered over the
Photoshopping happens in pictures one would not suspect, for example, the famous portrait of Abraham Lincoln, included in many popular publications about honest Abe. Lincoln’s portrait originally displayed John Calhoun, but today displays Calhoun’s body with Lincoln’s face pasted on. This example portrays the restricted understanding of the world, people take for granted that everything they perceive depicts truth, and as a consequence, they receive the wrong information. One may also utilize Photoshop to make another suffer; a student wanted revenge on another student so they found a nude picture off the Internet. They then proceeded to paste their face on the picture and send it to others, and blamed it on the other student. The school nearly expelled the other student before the truth came out. Photoshopping aids in limiting people’s knowledge by presenting them with incorrect information disguised behind supposedly reliable photos.
Your quotes remember of why Photoshop is more dangerous than we thought if it not used correctly because we probably understand how so many young people and adults are subconsciously affected by Photoshop for the reason that of the flawless picture of models and actor that have unattainable bodies that a normal person can’t get since nobody don’t have a perfect body.
Photoshop, is almost always used in today’s media but many people refuse to see or believe it. The more photoshop the media uses the lower the self esteem, higher the depressions rates and an increase in eating disorders and mental illnesses. So why does the media still use photoshop when it is so harmful? How does it really affect girls and teenagers? What can prevent these effects of Photoshop? Photoshop has harmed high school girls to the point where 30% of them have an eating disorder (Vaynshteyn).
Besides Photoshop, plastic surgery is a permanent way to change any physical characteristic. There are things one can change, without having to go through any knife or injection— the way they dress, hairstyles, and working out. When it comes to our image plastic surgery has provided an easy yet dangerous solution to fix what one considers their imperfection/ flaw. It is not only adults; teens are also getting cosmetic surgery which only is deteriorating the youth. Stated in the article Pretty Unreal, “Last year in the United States, more than 300,000 teens are 18 or younger had some sort of cosmetic surgery done” (Mehta, Sparling. 288). An increasing number of teens are getting cosmetic procedures done; plastic surgery has become common with in different age groups and families. Personally in my family I know many teens and adults that have gotten plastic surgery, liposuction, nose jobs, to butt jobs. I believe that teens my age should not be worrying about getting procedures done because there are many risks involved. Adolescence is taken away due to constantly worrying about physical image.
Christopher Cabrera is an entrepreneur who created Xactly, a company that “provides cloud-based software to calculate payments for commission-earning employees” (Rogers para 1). As of 2017, Xactly’s annual sales were at 95.5 million dollars. Cabrera was not always a business owner, in fact he used to be in sales at CallidusCloud. Cabrera came up with his idea for Xactly because he realized that soon anyone with internet would have access to software, and he wanted to create software that every company no matter what size could use. He was hesitant to take the plunge, and quit his job to start his own business, but after he got fired from his job at CallidusCloud he realized that it was time. Xactly was brought to life in 2005, and
I believe that photoshop is wrong, in which the photoshoper manipulates an image to make the person look worse. Also, I believe that it's wrong because they're making the image into somehting it isn't and that's the same thing as lying. In a March of 2014 article on BeautyRedefined.net, an image of Kelly Clarkson on SELF Magazine was photoshopped to make her look a lot thinner than she actually was. It was proved that the image was photoshopped when Clarkson appeared on Good Morning America just a few days later, and looked nothing like the image on SELF. Photoshopping an image is editing an image, thus making it a different
The photos have been edited and airbrushed to look perfect, even if it is not the reality. Which means that when people compare themselves to these pictures they are comparing themselves to something that is unrealistic and unreachable. When people feel inadequate because they do not look like what others consider pretty they look at alternative methods to change themselves. This is often times how people develop Anorexia, because they see people in the media being praised for being thin and they want to be like them, and eating less makes sense to them. With the banning of Photoshop, there would no longer be images out in the media that are unrealistic, and people can see others how they are and even the imperfections in a person can be seen as beautiful and
In opposition, many would state that Photoshop gives beauty and promotes financial in marketing. America is surrounded by money. For instance, studies show that America's primary export is entertainment, while other countries exports include textile, spices, etc. In opposition, many other countries are putting a stop to the false advertisement of models. For example, France has proposed a bill asking editors to put a health warning on ads or photos that have been retouched, so that women know that their bodies can no look that way. Editors of magazines portray their models as being thin, young, and full-faced, which are from technology, not the actual model. For example, when Meghan Trainor appeared on a past cover of a magazine, she seemed to have a bigger hip than usual. She then took this issue to the media and put the actual picture side by side. Many editorials
Businesses have countless applications for the computer software known as Photoshop. The software is such an integrated part of society that businesses and scholarly articles assume people have prior knowledge of what it is and what it does. Photoshop is defined by Oxford as trademarked digital image-editing software to alter photographic images. It is an industry standard for digital graphics and has many applications to various businesses and media. Lev Manovich wrote in Inside Photoshop that to count up the number of options in Photoshop and then count all the options each option subsequently contains, that the total number of options the software allows for would be in the thousands. Professionals in media, education, research, and many businesses utilize the software. However, there is controversy surrounding the use of Photoshop in advertisements that edited models to unrealistic levels, because of the impact those images have on society. Nonetheless, Photoshop is widely used and has revolutionized business and integrated into many industries not limited to media or photography.
Doctoring photos is NOT okay in my opinion. I believe doctoring pictures confuses people’s minds. It shows pictures of
We all know that the internet is a dark and mysterious place. Some people, however, put a bit too much faith in it. If you’re not very good with Photoshop, it seems only logical to ask for help from anyone on the web. However, this might be a grave mistake and could land you as an internet meme, something none of us want to be!
