Dear, Parents In this unit I have learnt about the importance of Resilience. I believe the most important aspects of resiliency are appreciation, optimism, and coping with stress. To be resilient is to bounce back in the face of adversity, depression, tragedy, and other sources of stress. It’s a cycle that many people get stuck in until they pick themselves back up. You experience, you feel, you fail, you hurt, and you fall. But, you keep on going anyways. Mandy Oaklander conveys that humans tend to stress over everything. Even if it’s a waitress messing up your order, or getting a “C” on a project (Guilty), and the list goes on and on. I often deal with stress at least once every month and I don’t even realize it . I see many people appreciating others, but how come most of us can’t appreciate ourselves? It’s because we believe we don’t deserve it. we would rather appreciate other who “deserve” it and not ourselves, but it doesn't always have to be like that. How can we appreciate others if we cannot appreciate ourselves? Sometimes, we believe that the universe has shaped our reality and who we really are, but I believe it’s just all in our heads. Shawn Anchor conveys that, We're finding it's not necessarily the reality that shapes us, but the lens through which your brain views the world that shapes your reality. And if we can change the lens, not only can we change your happiness, we can change”. And from reading this text we find that It’s not the way that the world makes us, but the way that we see the world. If we can change how we look at the world maybe we can change our happiness, opportunities, and happiness, opportunities, and for the better. Sometimes I find the world unfair and totally unpredictable. I find it hard to find my life “going well” when it’s hard for me to look at the bright side of things when my life just isn’t functioning the way it’s supposed to. Life is full of challenges to overcome. Whether it be something small like failing a test or something big like losing someone you love, hardship is everywhere. When it comes to honor and certainty, resilience is a key part of obtaining and keeping these attributes. Getting through hard times is what matters most in a world full of sadness.
During our lives we come across many difficult times in which we learn important skills. However, our actions choose what skills we've gained. For instance, a person who makes rational choices, keeps aware of what these choices do, and never letting the situation over take them have the characteristics of a resilient perosn. People with resilience have a way of dealing with problems in the most effective way possible, like Louie Zamperini, who was lost at sea for months after his plane malfunctioned and crashed. His fight for survival brought forth these traits and caused him to outlive his situation.

People have learned to be resilient in order to overcome serious hardships. A person’s resilience can be seen through how they handle bad experiences; to be resilient in the face of adversity. People who never give up and always fight back even when it gets hard are resilient. Some believe that resilience is a trait that can be learned.
Resilience has been topic that we have learned and are discussing in my English class. When you can overcome hardships faster and easier when you are more resilient person. We have been analyzing an article called “The Science of Bouncing Back” by Mandy Oaklander. Oaklander discusses methods of many people on their experience, becoming a more resilient person. People respond to emotion and hardships in their life differently, and people with more struggles overcome it more gradually, and Mandy Oaklander made me consider the possibilities resilience has, and can offer in everyday life.
I have grown over the course of my four years in college at Texas A&M University, and it has included many setbacks. However, one thing has remained constant my resiliency. When times get rough I tend to fall, but without fail I always rise and exceed my expectations. In various situations in my life I’ve been faced with obstacles, but I always push forward. The most memorable scenarios are my research project in Dr. Maren’s neuroscience lab and freshman year at Texas A&M University.
The development of a child’s resilience depends on the amount of risk and protective factors available. The death of a parent, whether stigmatized or unexpected, may create developmental risk for the child. Grief symptoms have the ability to become lifelong challenges if not properly addressed during childhood. The support of extended family, especially after a parental loss, is a powerful protective factor during the developmental years. A child has a greater chance of developing the normative resilience when there is a strong risk and protective factor relationship.
What does it mean to be resilient? It means the ability to recover from adversity, and when i hear this word i think of bethany hamilton. Because she got attacked by a shark and she did not worry about it because she knew she was going to get back in the water.
I must say that I agree with many points that you made throughout this post. For instance, the fact that you mention there is a paradigm shift happening to the concept of resilience is quite interesting as one would have thought that instead of a paradigm shift mostly it was a matter of competing views. That is, some may believe that resilience is either a trait, a state, a process, or perhaps a combination of these. However, after exploring the literature, I must agree with you that resilience is now being conceptualized as a dynamic process rather than as a trait although some concepts of this term are still inconsistent (Velichkovsky, 2009; Haase & Peterson, 2013).
Resilience is the ability to withstand and overcome external pressures that cause emotional, mental and psychological instability. There are coping mechanisms i.e. the value of our families and friends that help us as individuals to cope with stressors and traumatic events. Hoppes (2011) defines resilience as the ability to demonstrate competence regardless of exposure to stressful situations, and dealing with stress in a way that allows you to master new responsibilities and increase self-confidence. Resilience is about more than standing still, it's about moving forward (Harrington, 2012). Communication with your administrators allows you to receive help when troubles do arise in your personal life. Administrators will work closely with you so that you continue to achieve your goal of graduation.
