The greatest city-states of all time were the city-states of Sparta, and Athens from which we take many of our modern ways. Both cities, had the same governments, but they had a different ways of life. Sparta was similar to other Greek Cities. Athens men worked different jobs. They both have slaves to depend on. But, they are in different cities.
Why was the military so important? Well boys entered the military training at the age of seven. Sparta focused on military. Sparta had a king named Anaxandridas ll. Government firmly controlled its people. Spartans conquered and enslaved their neighbors. Made up of council of elders, ephors, and an assembly. Discouraged foreigners and travel abroad.
Sparta and Athens both are in Greece. They have the
Sparta, a military city-state, and Athens, a very ethical city-state more concentrated on the arts and a better education, were two powerful city-states in Greece and were often at war with one another. Sparta and Athens were very different from the way they ruled, to the way they conducted their normal life. In my opinion, the better place to live depended on who you were. If you were a boy, Athens would be a more beneficial place to live as boys had many privileges during their childhood. Sparta would be the better place for a women to live because the rights they had, were more than an Athenian women had. If you were a man, the best place to live would be Athens, as he would have more freedoms and choices.
Athens and Sparta are the two famous city-states in Ancient Greece. The Athens was more superior then Sparta. The Athenians were stronger because they had a better geography, government, cultural achievements, and I would rather live in the Athens.
Around 500 BCE, a city-state on the Peloponnese peninsula Began to grow. This city-state is Sparta that bagan has just a cluster of houses on the Evrotas River. The boys would go to Military School from 8 to 20 years in age, practicing the Phalanx and other Military practices, the Men were ready to fight. In 431 BCE, Sparta and Athens broke out in a 25-year war known as the Peloponnesian War.In the end, Sparta did win against Athens, but both of them had suffered. In Sparta the weaknesses outweighs the strengths because the Helots the slaves do their dirty work, boys were abused ,the Spartans had a weak education.
Have you ever wondered which city-state was more superior out of Athens or Sparta? Well, I am here to tell you that Sparta is more superior than Athens in many different ways. When it comes to their geographic advantage, their government, and their daily life in general, you will definitely see that Sparta is better than Athens. The city-state that had the geographic advantage was Sparta.
Would Athens or sparta been a better place to live. In, “ Athens and Sparta” Mr. Duckworth states, “ Where they differed was that while the Spartans had militaristic values, Athenians were democratic” This shows that Athens would have been a better place to live because while the Spartans ruled by the few the Athenians were ruled by the people. Also Mr. Duckworth states, “ The Spartans emphasized only on their power and gaining control over other kingdoms while the Athenians also grew infrastructure wise in ancient times. However they understood the importance of such growth and concentrated on them besides only on military strength.” This shows that Athens would have been a better place to live because the people didn’t always pay attention to military strength like the spartans, but also education and growth.
Athens and Sparta by Mr.Duckworth states, “Where they differed was that while Spartans had militaristic values, Athenians were democratic.” This shows that Spartans valued the military, while Athens valued the people. Athens would have been a better place to live because they were a democracy, they had great infrastructure, and they provided education to all. Therefore, Athens would have been a better place to live.
Sparta had the geographical advantage over Athens because they had the fertile valley. lots of ore, and large mountains separating them. First, The fertile valley helped because it is where they planted their food. Another thing that helped was all the ore.and that's because with all of that or they could make big money so that they could trade for food or stuff they don't have.the last reason is because of all the mountains that helped protect from all of the attacks because it would be harder for the attackers to get over the mountain. and harder to aim down on to sparta unlike Athens that doesn't have mountains to protect them so it's easier to attack.
Imagine you had to choose between two very, very risky places to live in. Well, that is what people had to do 7,000 years ago. The two places are called Sparta and Athens, both had very harsh and violent laws. Trust me we are all very lucky to live in the places we do now compare to these two places. Now on to having to choose between the two, the only reason on why I would choose this place is because of the different laws for the men. Obviously, I would say that because I am a boy. I would rather live in Athens because of how fair the laws are compared to Sparta. There are many laws in Athens that are better than Sparta. One of the laws includes how they rule their kingdom. In Ancient Athens, it was run by the people themselves in the city. All of the citizens in Athens were happy they had that they had that freedom. In Ancient Sparta, there was not much freedom from voting for their rulers. The only reason that is because only a small group of wealthy, powerful men could rule Sparta. There are many more reasons why I think that Athens is better/ fairer.
Athens and sparta are two different places. Athens and sparta had two different cultures that they believed in and they had two different lifestyles. Athens had a more chill and laid back lifestyle. Sparta on the other end had a very hard life and they were all about the military and how they were going to live. Sparta was very hard on themselves and there people that lived their with them.
Sparta is the best city state because they had craftsmen raiders the second reason why is because there education required-obedience,endurance,courage, self-control The third reason why sparta is the best cause social status determined by military achievement. The first reason why there good for being craftsmen raiders its because the perioeci, whose name means “dwellers round” worked as a craftsmen and traders, and built weapons for the spartans. The second reason why they are the best it's because spartan men devoted their lives to military service, and lived communally well into adulthood a spartan was taught that loyalty to state.spartan women had to contemporaries outside of sparta also spartan women had a reputation for promiscuity and controlling
Spartans have no heart to the outsiders and apparently, never got the education they needed to understand that. Sparta was a small city-state in southern Greece on a peninsula called Peloponnese. Sparta was never smart nor even as remotely educated as we are today. They spent all of their time training for battles that would never come and training for things that just aren’t “good”. Spartans would “make and kill” and would never pay a bill and never payed any attention to their citizens. The weaknesses in Sparta did outweigh the strengths because they lacked in advanced education, abused their children, and killed innocent people.
Imagine being in Sparta. Your life is determined from the day you are born. Any baby too small wasn't deemed as fit in the city-state. A life in Sparta means you are here to serve your city-state. Sparta was a strong city-state on the Peloponnese peninsula in southern Greece. Sparta had different enemies. On the inside of Sparta were the helots, a group of people who Sparta kept inside their borders. Athens and Persia were enemies of Sparta on the outside. Though Sparta had its strong suit, the city-states weaknesses greatly outweighed the strengths. The weakness’ of Spartan education outweigh the strengths in three ways: insufficient cultural education, harsh punishments, and it separated boys from their families.
Sparta has the strongest military in Ancient Greece and is well-known for it. One reason for this was because the citizens have been training for a very long time. The citizens start training at the age of 7 and so on. Another reason for this strong military was because Sparta protects their people in the best way possible. Sparta citizens don’t trust anyone because they want to stay protected and safe.
Sparta was ruled by a king or at some point two kings. These two kings were from two separate families of royalty and neither of them had absolute power. The king or kings had to be consulted by the Ephors. The Ephors had a lot of power and authority in the Spartan government. They were a group of five elders, men over the age of 30 who would serve in this position for a year. They had the power to bring up charges against anyone in Sparta, including the king. Unlike Athens who was set on trying to establish a peaceful democratic atmosphere; Sparta was a lot more militaristic and strict. One of the Spartan government’s main priorities was the strength of the Spartan army. They believed that strength, endurance and numbers were a key part in a successful and powerful army. Therefore every Spartan boy at the age of seven would be taken away from their mothers and put into training for the next 13 years.
The first reason, Sparta thought education was important because everybody needed to know about obedience, courage, endurance, and self-control. They also learned reading, math, science, and more. The second reason, the boys were taken from their families at age 7 to go to military training to protect their country. Then, when they reach to age 20, they go to a higher risk till their 60 years old. The third reason, the girls are allowed to go to school in Sparta. They learn how to write, read, and survival skills. They can participate in sports, and they are treated as equals.
