Many doctors and scientists are thrilled with the discovery of stem cells and the possibilities it could bring with medical advancement. Stem cell research is highly imperative because it enables researchers to better understand many diseases that countless people face today. Stem cells have the capability of turning into a differentiated cell. They are able to develop into various other cells in the body, such as blood, muscle, or nerve cells. Despite all the opportunities, the subject is considered controversial. However, through research and experimentation, it has the potential to make cures for various incurable diseases such as Alzheimer’s and cancer.
Stem cells are important because of the vast benefits and development it offers for people. Scientist can observe how stem cells grow in different organs and tissue like bones, muscles, and nerves. Many people believe that destroying the blastocyst is immoral and that trying to save a human life by destroying another one is unethical. On the other hand, statistics show that there are about 400,000 unused embryos stored in freezers as a result of in vitro fertilization, and it is better to put them into use rather than discarding them. One disadvantage that embryonic stem cells have is that there is a possibility that the body can reject the cells because they won’t be from the same person. Additionally, a disadvantage of adult stem cells is that it could only produce one type of cell. For instance, heart cells can only produce heart cells. In spite of all these disadvantages, the potential benefits that the research of stem cells compensates for the drawbacks listed
