If you ask most Americans what The Declaration of Independence is most will say it is our laws we have to obey. However, The Declaration of Independence doesn’t even have any laws in it. Americans that don’t know The Declaration of Independence think that it has to do with people’s responsibilities and think they need to obey them. The Declaration of Independence shows how America wanted independence from Great Britain. It made way for the thirteen original colonies and it showed Great Britain they did not want to be part of them anymore. The Declaration of Independence is a statement made up by the Continental Congress meeting in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania on July 4, 1776. This Declaration announced that the original thirteen colonies of the United States that was at war with Great Britain at the time, wanted to be separated from Great Britain creating the thirteen original colonies. The reason America was afraid was that Great Britain judge Lord Mansfield declared slavery was illegal in England and Wales. After that happened America was very afraid of Great Britain saying that they will free their slaves. Shortly after Great Britain declared slavery illegal, they outlawed the slave trade for America. The slave trade was crucial to Americans. The slave trade was the trading of African Americans to the new world from Europe. They would place the slaves on ships that would come to America with cargo of manufactured goods. (Dictionary.com) In the early 1830s Britain finally abolished slavery in its entire empire after all these years of private trading.
