The Settlement of Texas is an important act in history. It all started with a man named Moses Austin and his son Stephen F. Austin. If these men had not worked and some even given their lives to Texas becoming independent, we would not have the 28th state of Texas.
In 1821 Moses Austin secured a colonization from Spain, which Mexico belonged to at the time. He died from the rigors of his return on June 10, 1821. He was only 28 years old. But his son kept on his father's work and in December, 1821, he led nearly 300 families to Texas. People wanted to come to Texas because there was basically free land. From that day on he has been known as the "Father of Texas". Then the newly independent Mexican government began giving huge land tracts
