Why You Should Join Greek Life. There are many reasons you should join Greek life. First off you will make friends that you will have for the rest of your life and they will become your family. Most of the friends I made during my first year of college became my friends due to joining a sorority. In a sorority or fraternity, you will not only make friends, but you will raise money for charity and gain many other skills, such as leadership skills. Being part of Greek life means you also must maintain a certain GPA to be able to join or stay in the sorority or fraternity. If you do not obtain the grade average needed they will also help you achieve your academic goals by helping you study, encouraging you to do more library hours, and getting
I knew going into college that I wanted to join a sorority. I was a legacy and felt the need to carry on that legacy. However, what ended up happening was not what I had in mind. Instead, I created my own legacy by joining a different sorority than those of my family members. But what I came to find was that the chapter that I chose was full of girls who cared about their friends and sisters. I stayed because I too cared about the other members who are a part of the same sisterhood.
If students join Greek Life, they most likely have a planner on hand because of the huge time commitment they require. Undergraduates who join Greek Life are obligated to do many things, for example: study hall, mandatory weekly meetings, and various social gatherings throughout the weeks. With everything a Greek organization puts on and upholds, there is no time to do other recreations. Everyone knows a sorority and fraternity is a very expensive group to get involved with. Everything cost money from the entry dues, to the events, to even the clothes you have to have. A job is one thing that can very well help with this situation, but a sorority and fraternity does not allow enough time in a day for that. Greek Life takes up all of the weekdays,
While going through the process of determining what college to go to many students focus on what majors are provided, location, an overall sense of the school, and several other things. One thing that is often overlooked is the option of going Greek. Many male students often do not even consider the option of going Greek because of false pretenses. One common misconception of going Greek is because the members are stereotyped to be party goers who do not do well in college. This could not be further from the truth. For members of the Kappa Alpha Order, there are several ambitious standards that must be maintained to stay in the Order. Also, joining Kappa Alpha opens members, both current and former, to several opportunities. Finally, Kappa Alpha is an Order that holds several beliefs that most southerners have faith in.
Sororities and fraternities are becoming more influential on college campuses and among the professional world. Over 730 schools across the United States have the Greek life system and there are several different fraternities and sororities on each college campus. Many Americans have extremely different opinions about Greek life as a whole. Although many say it is all about partying, there are many pros and cons to joining Greek life. Greek life can be a very good experience in college, it is whatever people make it.
The three main reasons I am excited to join a sorority include my personal development, loyalty and friendship, and support of my aspirations. As a sister, there is an expectation of social interaction and personal development. I am confident that my experience and communication skills will be enriched by the activities that I participate in, the responsibility I take, and the people I meet. I am looking forward to making friends for life. I think that the atmosphere and set up of a sorority fosters and encourages the development of lifelong friendships through common aims and shared experiences. I also believe that sorority life emphasizes and encourages loyalty to and among the sisterhood, my school and the nation. Support from my sisters
Concluding Remarks: Many clubs and organizations offer things such as friendship, academic support, leadership skills, etc. However, Greek life will provide you with these opportunities and so much more in one single organization. Transitioning from high school to college and college to the real world is never an easy task, but by becoming Greek you will be able to transition with ease, as well as grow as an individual.
To start off, there are various factors that have motivated me and continue to motivate my desire to be a member of Alpha Pi Sigma. For example, creating enduring bonds with girls around my age that acknowledge my origins, culture and traditions. As well, an important motivation to join the sorority is establishing a network of strong women who work hard to succeed and accomplish their goals. Mainly, I know that by joining Alpha Pi Sigma I will not only find a group of friends but, a study group and women ready to inspire one another to succeed. Another thing that motivates me is being able to help the Latino community and perform philanthropist work aimed at cancer survivors and patients. Lastly, a critical motivator is recognizing that through the sorority I will be able to build amazing memories and learn more about myself and who I am.
Throughout my exploratory essay, I found that there are many different perspectives when it comes to Greek life. I as a member of Greek life myself, feel that the positive aspects outweigh the negative. There are many positive advantages that come from being a part of Greek life. There are an abundance of networking opportunities that come from Greek life along with all of the incredible friends that you make throughout the recruitment experience. One may also gain leadership skills from being a member of the executive council and having to lead their chapter on a day to day basis. Being a member of Greek life also pushes you to be more involved on campus as well as in the community. Each Greek organization has a philanthropy that they support
Never in a million years did I plan on joining Greek life in college. When I got to school I quickly decided that I wanted to be more involved and help make a difference in people’s lives. I decided to rush a sorority which happened to be Delta Gamma. Delta Gamma has provided me with so many wonderful opportunities to make a difference. When the Whited family reached out to our chapter here at IUP I knew this would be something I would remember doing for years to come. The Whited family came to one of our chapter meetings and we got to meet little Lochlan who touched all of our hearts. I have had so many wonderful opportunities from this organization already and have received such great experience by joining
Going away to college can be a scary thing. It is the first time you will most likely be living away from your family and having to care for yourself. Not only that, but you are essentially being dropped off at a place where you know no one or anything. So it isn’t hard to imagine why someone would seek a place that could make him or her feel loved and like they have a home away from home. For a majority of women, the first place they may look to for this comfort is a sorority.
However, if you are looking to be more connected on your college campus and to automatically belong to a sense of community, joining a sorority is the perfect fit for you. Delta Gamma claims its mission is to “foster ideals of friendship among women”, and it is fairly clear through the public discourse, as well as the discourse meant specifically for Delta Gamma’s, that community and friendship is something that is cherished within the organization. Joining a sorority means that you are a part of traditions that have been around for decades, thus being connected to something bigger than yourself. A sorority isn’t just something you do for your four years in college, but it is something that you use as a networking tool and a bond of friendship for as long as you live. It also means having a forever snow cone run partner, new opportunities to plug yourself into, and girls who are always there to comment how good you look on your Instagram photos. Those these things may seem infantile, they are super important and go a long way in making you feel like you are at home at your university, and that is the exact goal of any sorority. If any of this sounds appealing to you, there should be no hesitation in
I have always wanted to join a sorority and although I love Gonzaga and I am very happy with my decision I felt like I was missing out. I am drawn to Alpha Pi Phi specifically because of the strong focus on sisterhood. In addition, as I got to know members of Alpha Pi Phi I enjoyed the fact that all of the girls are very unique and each bring their own unique qualities to create one united sisterhood.

What previous knowledge I had about sororities was based of the experience of my older sister, who went through the recruitment process twice to find her home in Kappa Delta at the University of North Carolina Chapel Hill. The advice my sister gave was each school is different when it came to Greek life, but the experience would be the same it would leave me experiencing so many different feelings from exhaustion to painfully awkward conversations. I wanted to see for myself if this process was for me, to see if I could see myself as being a “sorority girl.”
By participating in Greek life, the students’ social circles are expanded. Because sororities and fraternities are specific to gender, religions, races, and even majors, those who participate in Greek life create lifelong relationships with people they choose to associate with by
