A lot of kids and even adults aren't maturing in a healthy way in fact many people aren't maturing at all. Maturity is when a person can deal with things on there own, handle relationships emotionally and physically, and be able to communicate healthy. Maturity, is something everyone goes through many kids go through it in their teen years. In the world we live in that statement has changed. Kids are starting to mature a lot quicker because of all the new gadgets we have now days. While this seems pretty great, could it actually be worse for kids? Kids these days know almost everything about cyberspace, because cells in their body disconnect with brain cells, and kids are being exposed to technology at such a young age. Tim Elmore states " students today have been exposed to so much more than I was growing up-and far sooner, too." He then …show more content…
"Ineffective or weak brain connections are pruned in much the same way a gardener would prune a tree or bush, giving the plant a desired shape," says Alison Gopnik, Professor of Child Development at UC Berkley. Kids experiencing this can react emotionally and not really know why. I think this all makes pretty good sense. In fact, now days kids in kindergarten start getting new devices. Having these new devices kids see things they can't even comprehend and growing up with that can stunt growth emotionally because they don't know how to deal with it because they were never taught. The meaning of maturity is being able to deal with things in a mature way. If kids grow up feeling and seeing things that parents never taught, they don't really know how to deal with those things. Before electricity and cell phones kids grew up dealing with things face to face and they were able to face reality rather than a cell phone screen. Kids and adults have a role to play in maturing maturity doesn't just happen on its
Mature. The definition of mature is; one that is fully developed physically; fully-grown. To me, mature means you are able to watch out for yourself and others, you are able to have manners, and you are reliable as well as responsible. Mature doesn’t have an age to it. There are many kids who are very young, for example, six or seven, who are mature. Others don’t mature until they are about thirteen or fourteen. It really just depends on the background of that individual. Maturity all ties into the changes that Scout undergoes in the book To Kill a Mockingbird.
Before we continue, we should discuss what maturity is. According to Wikipedia, the definition of maturity is “ a psychological term used to indicate that a person responds to the circumstances or environment in an appropriate and adaptive manner.” This response is generally learned rather than instinctual, and is not determined by one's age. Maturity also encompasses awareness of the correct time and place to behave, knowing when to act with appropriate emotion for the situation. Maturity incorporates personal accountability, meaning you take ownership of situations you are involved in. By following one’s conscience, you are taking personal accountability.
At first glance, technology changes the way children think. The new generation has a power to do many tasks in the same time, but it is hard for them to focus on the book. The tablet, cellphone, etc. become a toy in hand of children. As people write code for program and devices, those tools code human’s minds too. The subconscious of children is clear when they were born by reputation their minds learn how to act. There is a video on YouTube about a one-year-old girl; her father gave her a tablet. She used tablet easily, she touched a page and played well with the tablet. After that, her father gave her a magazine; she did not know how to change the page. She touched the picture of a magazine 's cover and
Maturity is a state that everybody tries to reach during their lives. Children spend their infancy, and sometimes adolescence, growing up and learning how to behave in the adults and work world. Schools teach them dissimilarities between these two different worlds. There isn’t a precise age in which kids become mature, it depends on the experiences they had, their society, their family and other causes. In the movie and novel The Giver, the community has a rite of passage where children, during the annual ceremony, become more mature and assume more responsibilities until they get into adulthood.
I believe maturity is not dependent on a person’s age because humans are affected by different situations, are different genders and are raised differently.
Maturity is commonly used word, but when asked what the word means many people simply shrug their shoulders. Maturity isn’t a word that has a clear definition. Being based primarily on one’s connotation, it doesn’t mean the same thing to everyone. Personally I picked this word up through context. However, upon doing a careful study of where this word originates and other’s connotation’s, I feel I’ve achieved a relatively good understanding. Webster claims the word to mean “based on slow careful consideration,” but I feel there is much more to this word than that.
To attain maturity, you must have a loss of innocence. For example, when a kid finds out that Santa Claus is not real, he is disappointed and cannot believe the fact that there is no Santa Claus, because
Maturity is not a fickle expression such as happiness or frustration, but rather an inherent quality one gains over time, such as courage or integrity. Before maturity can be expressed, the one who expresses it must have significant confidence in himself, since self-confidence is the root of maturity. Being flexible and formulating one's own opinions or ideas are aspects of maturity, but neither is possible without self-confidence. The greatest aspect of maturity is the ability to make decisions which society does not agree with. Whether or not one follows through with these ideas is not important. What is important is the ability to make the decision. These decisions represent the greatest measure
Imagine being a young child and wanting to go on adventures with a sibling or close friend. Maturity is when a person grows up and becomes less naive. In the novel To Kill a Mockingbird by Harper Lee, a few characters are naive at the beginning of the text and slowly mature throughout the novel. They all want to be adventurous with each other but, knowing the consequences gets in the way of them actually going on the adventures towards the end of the novel. Jem, Scout, and Dill especially mature throughout the novel because they are children who learn new lessons during different situations.
“Maturity is that time when the mirrors in our mind turn to windows and instead of seeing the reflection of ourselves we see others” (Anonymous). Maturity is being aware of and acting appropriately toward others in one’s surroundings. His or her maturity depends less on the person's actual age and more on life experience and personal integrity. In Mark Twain’s The Adventures of Tom Sawyer, the character of Tom transforms from a self-centered child to a more thoughtful, mature young man.
Most students go to school to learn to better their knowledge and find a career that suits them. Some students go to school because they are forced to go. Author John Holt wrote, "School is Bad for Children" and argues that school takes away the curiosity that children have about life and that children should be allowed to do whatever interests them, instead of going to school to "accept the adults' evaluation" (Holt 79). Holt begins suggesting that students should be able to make the decision if they want to go and "give them a chance to learn about the world at first hand" (Holt 81).
Kids these days are maturing slower than ever. Adolescents today are not emotionally maturing because young teens are learning more than past generations, teens nowadays compare themselves to each other more than ever, and teens don't slow down to give the brain time to change to adulthood.
A common piece of everybody’s vocabulary today is a word used in various contexts with little understanding to comprehend what it really means. “Maturity”, the stream of questions that come to our mind when we begin to ponder on the eight letter word is numerous. The most basic being, “What is maturity? How does one step up on the pedestal of maturity? And how do we measure maturity?” Einstein puts his perspective on maturity in an even more complicated manner, “I live in that solitude which is painful in youth, but delicious in the years of maturity”, this view point does paint us a picture of maturity, but leads us to a whole new world of mystification.
However, some people may argue that children today have better behavior than ever. The reason they think that is because of kids are being distracted by all of the technology around
But at a stage of our youth, we need to lose our sense of naivety to be less puerile and more mature. At this stage, we have to stop seeing the world as a huge playground and enrol into the school of maturity. At the school of maturity we need the experience of teachers to guide us. They may be our parents, school teachers or someone you look up to. This is where the face of experience comes in.
