The article mentioning the I-Gen isn't completely wrong. However, stating that kids in school absolutely need jobs is a bit excessive. Most kids are taking ap classes, plus all the old people in the desert don't feel the need to retire quite yet, so job positions for teens in high school are given more to the older generations. Also cutting down times on items like smart phones or computers is nearly impossible, most teachers require work to be turned in online (cough cough), combined with six classes could mean a possible 3 hours on electronics for work alone. Overall, this article isn't too bad and makes some compelling points.
Now the second article about liberty on college campuses, had a few more issues. Mainly, calling college students
Shouldn't kids work on homework like these days instead of spending time with their family? Kids should be able to spend more time with their friends and family. I think this because homework is very hard and challenging. Homework can give headaches and also stress. My opinion is that homework should not be something to do at home.
Safety is, ”the condition of being protected from or unlikely to cause danger, risk, or injury” (“Dictionary”, n.d.). That is what locker searches provide for schools. With the early case of New Jersey v. T.L.O, a teacher caught a 14 year old girl smoking a cigarette in the bathroom. This led the teacher to send the girl to the principal in which the assistant principal decided to check her bag and locker for more cigarettes or other contraband. The assistant principal found marijuana and a list of people that owed the girl money. The teen took the school to court for
Laws in many governments prohibit carrying a knife. However, carrying a weapon is permitted in come cases, such as the Kirpan, a ceremonial sword worn at all times by followers of the Sikh religion. Nevertheless, ethics and morals do not determine a law. Instead, what is just and unjust is what matters, as John Austin believed, and to some, religion is not a recognizable purpose to carry a weapon. Possession of a knife in itself is not evil; rather the potential for violence creates a need for control and so elimination of the possibility is vital.
Technology allows us to be connected to more resources and makes it faster to gather information. In the article, “High School Should Not Participate”, it states that ”Technology
Hello, My name is Sarah and I am writing to you regarding the new policy that is being adopted. The one about "Students who do not have a B average or above, can no longer participate in after school activities including any clubs or sports."
When children receive participation trophies they are praised for their efforts rather than the work towards their mistakes. Children will not be fully prepared for the future by allowing them to receive trophies, the children begin to think that all they have to do for a reward is to show up and not put any effort. For example, “In college, those who’ve grown up receiving endless awards do the requisite work, but don’t see the need to do it well” (NY Times). These college kids have many trophies and they received them mainly for being in the activity or club that they participated in. The effect of all the trophies given were that the college students do not complete their assignment and job to the fullest. They stay at a level where it is
Every year, thousands of people move to the United States from all over the world to play sports. According to the district they threatened to flunk sports down because they were rolling to cause financial problems and it would cut the cost of equipment. Therefore, schools should not have sports because they can cause district's financial problems, academic failures and students will not have the proper rooms to teach.
Doctors in training call it "pimping." A medical student or junior resident is abruptly put on the spot, sometimes during patient rounds, as an instructor fires off difficult questions about anatomy, diagnostic protocols, or surgical procedures.[1] The practice is defended in pretty much the same way that other forms of humiliation, bullying, hazing, orpunishment are defended: Keeps 'em on their toes! Shows 'em I mean business! Toughens 'em up for when other people abuse them later! And of course that old chestnut:I suffered through it; why shouldn't they?[2]
PCMS students should not get homework. All school kids do not have a parent at their house to help them finish the assignment because the parent has to take care of the baby. Sixty five percent through seventy five percent of many school students qualify for free lunch which means kids do not have a lot of parents to help with homework. Kids do not finish homework at home. Because kids have no time after they get off the bus. What if they have to go food shopping. Then they can't finish the work. While some would say to not get your homework done. I say that kids do not finish their homework.
The blazing hot sun warms over the afternoon; balloons, candles, and cake surround me. It is the day of my best friend’s eighth birthday party, laughter and happiness echoes in the atmosphere. An insatiable thirst washes over me so I make my way over to the refreshments table and without hesitation, pour myself the seemingly only drink available. My curiosity peaks, I look around and realize that everyone really does have the same drink. “Why is this the only beverage available?” I wonder. Why did the host assume that everyone would enjoy it? Such a typical occurrence, everyone follows along without question. “How bad could it actually be?” I thought to myself. Just because something is considered normal or common, does that mean it is right
The rule to measure twice and cut once was changed to; check your proportions twice before you poured once. Insure everything was level and square before putting it together was changed to; check for consistency or evenness prior to pouring or shaping. Always have a safety buddy at your side when doing things that can cost you to lose a finger was changed into; having someone near to check everything off on your list according to the directions. Soon questions were being asked and recipes were being changed for the better, and in some cases beyond the teacher’s expectations. One thing Mrs. Riviera had tried to do was get the other teachers to be taste testers, but was never successful. We had an idea and it worked out perfectly.
If you never went to school where do you think that you would end up? Do you think that you would have a job? If so what kind of job do you think you would have, flipping hamburgers at a fast food restaurant, or working at a grocery store? Maybe you would have another job, one that doesn't pay well with lots of manual labour. Poverty is a major problem in America, little did you know that one major factor leading to them can be easily solved. When kids drop out of school they do not think about their future, that can be completely destroyed by one simple choice. Kids should legally not be allowed to drop out of high school because that has a major negative impact on their future, their children, and on their surroundings.
Schools are preparing students for a world that doesn’t exist. Schools’ learning curriculums teach us students facts, but never teach us how to use the facts or why they’re important for us to know. If you were to turn into an adult in the next ten minutes, you wouldn’t know the first thing to do as an adult, on your own in the real world. Think about where you’d live, who your family would be, what car you’d have, what food you’d eat, what job you’d have, what’d you do if you were held at gunpoint, what to say to anyone who asks you a question or gets mad at you for whatever reason or even what you’d do if your car stopped in the middle of nowhere without cell phone service. Maybe you’re able to answer some of those but definitely not most.
Although many people believe that we should not force young people to follow the rules in their daily lives, I feel that young people are not enough mature to make right decisions and they should follow direction and obey rules to protect themselves from unfortunate future lives.
Sixty years ago, the nation could afford to lose large numbers of students before graduation because high school dropouts could still land well-paying jobs and support their families. But times have changed. Today, jobs that require relatively little education are increasingly done by machines or shipped overseas, and individuals who fail to earn a high school diploma are at a great disadvantage. According to stimulus one, A world without work, there is numerous occupations being taken over by robots and modern technology. “Oxford researchers have forecast that robots might be able to take half of all U.S. jobs within two decades.” Looking into the future, the job prospects aren’t getting any brighter for individuals with lower levels of education. According to research by the Georgetown Center on Education and the Workforce, 65 percent of all jobs in 2020 will require some form of education after high school. Mostly everyone is well-aware of the problems they receive when they drop out, but few understand the impact beyond each individual. As research by the Alliance for Excellent Education has found, high school dropouts also influence a community’s economic, social, and civic health.
