Contrary to public opinion and current law there are more reasons for marijuana to be legalized than for it to remain illegal. Marijuana cost taxpayers billions of dollars, it is less harmful than other pharmaceutical drugs including alcohol and tobacco, it provides medical benefits, and for some cultures it is used in their ritual. Furthermore marijuana can be useful to Americans for medical purposes as well as used for hemp rope. In addition there are some cultures which use marijuana for religious reasons. Consequently prohibition does not work, which was proven with alcohol in the early 1900. For this reason we should educate and allow people to make their own decisions whether or not they want to use marijuana, with no law telling them whether they can or cannot possess marijuana in the United States.
