Just think about it: the thought of getting paid to give advice to people... sounds great, right? We have all been at times where people come to us for advice, so why not get put into a position where you are paid to do so? Regardless of pay or not, most of the time when we are in this situation, we are left not knowing what would be the best possible thing to say. If you are the kind of friend that has an interest to combat that problem, going towards a degree in psychology is the route for you. Being a certified master of the psychology field can welcome you to an array of many career choices, but one in particular that interests me, is psychotherapy. On careerprofiles.info, it reads that the minimal salary I can expect as a psychotherapist is $51,100, and the maximum I can expect is $76,000. This pay-range is ideal to me, because it is just enough that I need to support myself along with my ideal lifestyle. In order to determine where my salary will be located in this range, a list of factors pop-up, which all play a role in determining how and when I can expect a certain amount of income. These factors include things like: experience, location, industry, and education level. These factors are not too important to me, because it is only expected that a larger salary will come with more experience. On top of that, it also does not really influence me to change my location to a place where I can expect a greater pay-roll. Along with this great salary, there also comes great benefits. One benefit that can be found when working as a psychotherapist is, “You're able to set your own hours, come and go when you want and have ample vacation time” (careerprofiles.info). Just the thought of this is great, as this means that I can set my schedule to be at times that will be convenient for both me and my future patients. Along with the workday and work hours, there also comes the challenges. Warn discusses on the challenges of being a psychotherapist, by saying, “It is sometimes challenging to sit with a person who is experiencing extreme pain and distress. Although I know I can help them, I also know that getting better takes time and effort.” To change after a period of time is natural; patience is key to becoming a psychotherapist. With these challenges, however comes a great reward in the end. When asking about his favorite part as a psychotherapist, he was short in replying, “Witnessing patients make positive changes in their lives and seeing patients get better.” This, in my opinion, is ultimately the greatest thing to witness in another, and in turn, is the most rewarding feeling to the person on the other end. Now, in order to make your work-day turn out either good or bad, comes one crucial thing: your attitude. Of course, you should only go for a job if you have the traits or skills that are associated with the job.
