The pain, the stereotypes, and the misconceptions that are often associated with tattoos would pose the question as to why would you choose to get a tattoo. Today, 45 million Americans have at least one tattoo (“Tattoo Statistics”). Tattoos are permanent markings on the skin that increase the difficulty to get hired for a job and are against some religions, such as Islam, making them a trend that people should not follow.

Tattoos are a taboo throughout society in different regions of the world. The practice of body art demonstrates many aspects of religion, traditions, customs, and other things. A tattoo can mean anything to anybody. People can say all the negative things about them, but the evolution of tattoos is actually different from their expectations.

People, a lot of times get tattoos to express themselves. Tattoos are not a new fad that grew over night. Tattooing has been a form of art that people have used to communicate with for ages. Whether it is a family crest, a butterfly, or a zodiac sign, all tattoos have meaning in which someone can tell a story. The history of tattoos goes as far back as the first people who roamed this Earth. Tattoos have been around for so long that no historian or archaeologist can precisely trace back to when and where tattooing began.

As soon as I finish high school I want to pursue a career as a tattoo/piercing artist. The reason for choosing that path is because when I was in middle school my mom would always watch tattoo shows, so I ended up getting into it and fell in love with their skills, designs, and their passion for tattoos. Two of my inspirations to want this career are Kat Von D and Romeo Lacoste, I noticed that they have been doing a lot of good work which got me more inspired to keep wanting to do that in life and be appreciated for my work as well.

Some use it as a way to identify themselves. Life will bring about so much turmoil that it is difficult to remember who we are and our old self is lost. Tattoos are not longer looked upon as a stigmatization, but are socially and universally accepted in today's society.
