What is plagiarism? According to the Merriam-Webster online dictionary, plagiarism is the act of literary theft that consists of stealing another one’s idea or work and crediting it as your own. People may think it is easy to get away with plagiarism, but the price to be paid for plagiarizing cannot only affect people’s academic lives, but it can also bleed into their careers as well as legal matters.

Plagiarism or academic integrity is a well-known issue that has evolved with students and their schooling. Not only are college students involved in this act at unprecedented rate, but students in high school and middle school are as well. Unintentional plagiarism can be performed unbeknownst to the student.

Plagiarism is when you copy someone else’s work. It is also when you take credit for someone else’s work that is not yours. You can be fined for plagiarism. It is a felony. So don’t get caught plagiarizing.

In order to plagiarize intentionally one must use work that does not belong to them and claim as their own, or steal ones idea(s) and pass off as your own. Many people believe plagiarism is limited to literary work but it can take place with music, images, and videos. In all honesty there is only one way to avoid this from occurring, simply use your own work. It is easier said than done, but using someone else work is not only wrong, but lazy, and impotent. Plagiarism is common in schools, working places, and anywhere in general. Since it is such a common thing, people do it without even blinking an eye. Though you may think it will benefit you, plagiarism is something that shouldn’t be taken lightly. It can effect the person you are stealing from, their grades, work, or possibly get them fired. It is also considered stealing, and cheating. This would be breaking the Ten Commandments, as a Christian, and would be seen as a sin. In the end, plagiarism prevents you from learning and growing as a person and you will not benefit from it in a positively.

Plagiarism is the process of taking some one else work or ideas and showing it as their own works (Oxford Dictionaries). The purpose of this study is to understand 6 different ethical reasons used by student to overcome with plagiarism and with help of these ethical reason, faculties can bring a solution to stop or prevent plagiarism. Where as unethical behavior can also lead to worries in school or colleges, so there is need to correct it so that it has positive impact on organizational ethics. Although, after reading this journal article, it was clearly seen that mostly used ethical reasons are Deontology, Situational Ethics and Machiavellianism to overcome with the problem of Plagiarism (Ashworth and Bannister, 1997).

In my opinion plagiarism is morally wrong to the teacher and fellow students. It is morally wrong to the teacher because he or she having their time wasted on a student who submits papers that are plagiarised. It is morally wrong to the fellow students who work hard for their grades while others submit papers that are plagiarised. I feel that the honor code at school is not enough to stop cheating or plagiarizing but it is the best way to go at such a problem. In the article The Chronicle of Higher Education it states , “such codes appeal to the desire of students to do the right thing.” This statement states what my opinion on the honor code is.
