Going green in Gatesburg has been a thought for a while now, but how far will it be taken? It is a good idea to save landfills (and the earth) as much as possible. On the otherhand, doing it the "wrong way" should not be a reason to fine citizens. Which side will you take? Recycling is an important thing to do. The average American throws out atleast 4 pounds of trash everyday, and only recycles about a third of that trash. Those pounds all add up to ridiculous ammounts, harming the earth and filling up the landfills very quickly. It may cost money to start up the recycling process, but researchshows that 500 million dollars can be made just by selling recycled materials. Although recycling is good, we should not have
Recycling saves a lot of energy and prevents pollution. It even creates jobs. In an EPA 2016 report, recycling accounted for over 700,000 jobs! On the other side of the
The benefits of a cleaner environment, more income for the city of Gatesburg, and healthier lifestyle for how we discard our garbage are all for a positive outcome. If the city of Gatesburg has any sense for it's future generations and environment they will come to agree with, "Going Green for Gatesburg." It is important that we conserve what we have so that we do not continue to destroy
Landfills are filling up with more and more trash every day and are expanding. Just by separating our trash everyday into plastics, cardboard/paper, cans, etc., we can minimize what we put in the landfills. Even if recycling was mandatory, I think this would help a lot. I spent some time in Germany and was able to participate in recycling more in depth. They recycle almost everything and have strict trash rules. Food that was not consumed goes in one small bin and cans, boxes, paper, etc., were sorted into separate bins as well. If you had something that was not in the proper bin or if your trash bag had something that could be recycled they do not take the trash that day. Some of the food that was not consumed was buried, the cardboard/paper, etc., was sent out to be recycled and reused. All of this helps keep Germany green and clean. Maybe we should follow in Germany’s footsteps to help keep our landfills clean of items that can be recycled and used again. According to the United States Environmental Protection Agency, in 2006, only 32% of the trash that was picked up was recycled in the United States. This leaves 68% of trash that is still going to the landfills and not being recycled. Although this recycling average is low, The Environmental Protection Agency hoped by 2019 the recycle percentage would reach 75%. The amount of trash that one person generates is astonishing. According to the EPA from Green Waste, in a single day 4.5 pounds is thrown out, which is about 1.5 tons of solid waste a year per person. The EPA estimates that 75% of solid waste is recyclable, but 30% is actually being
Going Green for Gatesburg idea is the right decision to make if there is any hope of saving the environment from the natural disaster of the human race. With making your own compost and recycling the way that's explained in the text, you can redue the amount of waste added to landfills by 90% over the next five years, you'll save moeny in the long run, you won't have to open an entirely new landfill, and you will vastly improve upon the environment.
On the proposal to go green. The gatesburg Go Green: Invites all citizens to partisipate on recycling, and to add more landfill by almost 90% for over the years to come. The citizens should have three trashcans, and althoulgh Purchasing bins and hiring staff will cost money and can be chalenging. It will be for a good cause. The goal is to have less trash and more land for the next generation and to reduce trash.
Do you know that many americans do not know how important recycling is? In the article “Importance of Recycling” by Rinkesh he says, “Recycling is important in today’s world if we want to leave this planet for our future generations.” This statement explains how many americans do not know how important recycling is to keep this planet and many more generations going. Many people do not know the different ways recycling helps out our enviroment. Personally, recycling is important for the environment, which is why I decide participate in it and recycle at home. I like to recycle cans and bottles. In my opinion, there are many factors as to why the environment needs recycling, but to shorten the process I came up with three major needs as to why
Audience Relevance: Recycling is something most people choose to ignore. Recycling helps the world by reusing trash to make new products. As a result, this helps reduce the amount of trash that rot in landfills and pollution.
If going green for gatesburg will reduce the amount of waste then we should all get on board. If the people who don't agree with this because of how it will cost more. Then our government should come up with an economicale plan to help those who can not afford it so we can all do our part in desposing and recycling.i mean if we can find a econmicale way to go green I'm pretty

A worker at a paper factory in Illinois states, “Then the issue was saving a tree. But trees are replaced. We plant them, we cut them, we plant them again” (Pendleton). The worker also said, “The problem now is the landfill situation, I think this one is going to stick” (Pendleton). By 1991 thirty-nine states and hundreds of local governments have passed laws or solutions requiring the purchase of recycled paper. According to Henry Miller, vice president of a paper mill said, “By volume, thirty-eight percent of solid waste in a landfill is paper and cardboard” (Pendleton). That paper and cardboard, if recycled could have produced that much paper or other products and it would have cleared up thirty-eight percent of many landfills across America. One major way to get people involved with recycling is the environment perspective. Not only would the landfills be cut down the environment gains a lot by having people recycle. So what do the states do to keep the environment clean? They enact laws against litter and waste. One way is the state requiring the deposit on beer and soft-drink bottles and cans (Prichard 8A). In those states, millions of bottles and cans that once were left on beaches, tossed in rivers and parks or thrown along the highways are being taken back to stores instead for a refund. A twenty-year old student from Michigan said, “Throwing away cans is like throwing away money to me” (Prichard 8A). These state laws must be working if people have this
Everybody knows that it is important to recycle. We all learned as children that not everything is biodegradable and most waste either takes hundreds of years to decompose, like plastic, glass, or disposable diapers, or it won 't at all, like tinfoil and styrofoam. Since we know that putting these things into the environment is harmful not only to Earth itself but also to us, why do we still use landfills so frequently? The answer to that question is this: It is not an important issue to the average American. There is not a mountain of garbage sitting in anybody 's front yard and therefore, they just do not care. If we don 't start caring about the environment and recycle, our beautiful earth won 't stay like this for long, and eventually there will be landfills everywhere you look. We can stop that from happening today by making recycling important to everyone.
On average, each person produces 4.4 pounds of waste per day. If all that trash is going in the garbage instead of recycling, you can multiply it by the 7 billion people on earth. That will give you 31 billion pounds of trash in landfills every single day if did not continue to recycle. (Marck). If we stop recycling, we will be sure to run out of resources in no time (Marck). In order to effectively abolish the accumulation of waste, which could be very harmful, we must take a concept into our hands called recycling. Even though some may look at recycling as a waste of time, energy, and money, it should be mandatory around the world because it helps boost the economy and takes away from global warming.
Gift wrapping materials, such as gift wrap, are often non-recyclable (Earth911qtd. in Gift). This is because wrapping paper is often dyed and laminated, and can contain additives, such as gold and silver coloring, glitter and plastics, and usually has nonrecyclable tape on it (Earth911 qtd. in Gift). Including too much non-recyclable material in the recycling bin can keep an entire load of material from being recycled, so it is important to only place accepted items in the recycling bin (Malone). Trying to recycle non-recyclable items can cause more harm to the environment than simply sending the non-recyclable items to the landfill to begin with. If looking to buy recyclable wrapping paper, it is better to stick with the simple stuff, like basic craft paper without a shiny coating (Miller). But really, it’s better to reuse giftwrap or to avoid it entirely (Malone). This is because making wrapping paper recyclable is not the most effective solution.
According to the Environmental Protection Agency, in 2013, Americans generated about 254 million tons of trash and recycled about 87 million tons, equivalent to a 34.3 % recycling rate. However, on average, we only recycled and composted 1.51 pounds of our individual waste generation of 4.40 pounds per person per day. And even so some might argue the cost effectiveness of recycling I find this EPA statistic along with the obvious alleviation on global warming and all its effects reason enough to take a closer look at our recycling mentality. Waste prevention is possible in every life situation: in the home, at the office or at work, at school or on the road yet we are reluctant to engage in recycling and waste reduction. We need to avoid waste instead of causing it.
“Putting our bottles and paper in a blue bin just won’t cut it. That doesn’t mean we shouldn’t do it but let’s get over all the hoopla about it.Yes, Recycle. Of course, recycle. But don’t believe for a second that recycling alone, is enough to turn things around.” Annie Leonard. 75
