When you leave a really beautiful cake outside and don’t watch it, it will soon be melted, smeared, bitten, etc. because you didn’t take care of it. Just as cakes can break down, so can empire's from not being taken care of. There are several reason why historians believe Rome “feel”. The most significant reasons why Rome fell were because of military mistakes, corruption, and political instability. No matter how big and strong the empire was, those factors were devastating to why Rome fell. One of the reasons of Rome’s fall was military mistakes, and there was many reasons for that. According to Document B, “Thus it happens that troops in battle, exposed to wounds because they have no armor.” Roman soldiers were becoming lazy now and they said that the armor was too heavy so why wear it in battles. In addition, more evidence is found in Document B, the author states, “Hosts of senators, bureaucrats, clergymen, cooks, bakers, and slaves were entitled to avoid the draft.” That was not fair in any way, just because you worked for someone else meant you couldn't be drafted because they would lose their workers. Because of these factors, the Roman military was becoming lazy and not enough men were being drafted. …show more content…
According to the author in Document E it states, “Taxes are very severe, unprincipled men inflict injuries on other, a wealthy lawbreaker is not punished for his injustice.” The government in Rome could not be trusted because they stole taxes from their citizens, and wealthy people could bribe their way out of trouble which wasn’t fair for the poor. Also in Document A it shows that 22 emperors were assassinated in just 50 years, also at one point they killed 5 emperors in just a year. From all of this information with the government stealing their money, wealthy people could bribe their way out of jail but the poor couldn’t, and 22 emperors were assassinated in 50
From 200 CE to 476 CE the fall of Rome began, and ended. Rome began in Italy surrounded by the mediterranean sea and expanded over time. They took over great parts of Europe, Asia, and Northern Africa. Rome experienced a great time of prosperity filled with different cultures and (known as the golden age), and eventually, due to all of the flaws and problems, fell. I believed that the reason it fell was due to many external, and internal factors. Some of the internal factors that lead to the fall of Rome were; loss/less labor and war-like difficulties. While the some of the external factors where great things out of their control, such as plagues and getting attacked.
In (Doc E), it says if you were caught doing something illegal the one who was poor would be punished while they one who was rich would be able to go free. The taxes they had to pay were a lot worse and very severe this could have led people to not pay them, boycott the items, or spend all their money on them. Then Document E said "...deplored that the governors, not possessing the spirit of former generations, were ruining the state. Then treatment of citizens could have led to them leaving and not caring about Rome, and Rome would fall because of
A government of any city is supposed to hold the nation together, but the government itself soon fell to lies, greediness, and deceit. Like in the first paragraph, if the government hadn’t lay idle or fought for power, they wouldn't've decayed on their ideas or let their citizens be as weak or distrusting. In the second paragraph, they were a major cause of it too, because of course they trusted Germanic tribes with their land and caused the weak military. Document A shows that over a period of only fifty years, there was twenty-two emperors, thirteen of them being assassinated and none of them dying of natural causes. It takes a certain amount of corruption to only want to be an emperor of a society only for power, especially to the point where the person will know quite well that they could be assassinated anywhere between two months to two years later.
One of the things that played a role in the decline of Rome, would be that there were too many war outbreaks. The war outbreaks would eventually lead to oppressive taxation, meaning that if there was too much war, more people would be likely to leave. And most of the people who leave would be the rich people. As stated in document B, the roman army was filled with negligence and laziness, and often were beaten by the Goths since they didn’t even wear a chest plate or a helmet. The second piece of evidence, document C, which would be the map of “Foreign Invasion of the Roman Empire.” Because of the constant war outbreaks, many of the wealthy fled, leaving only the poor behind. The Roman government had to do something, so they eventually depended on manual labor. They had slaves work the field, and work as craftsman. Therefore the Roman government for
The theory of the weak Roman Emperors was one of the top three reasons for the fall of Rome because its vast empire fell due to the weak and unstable government that was established by the emperors who ruled during the fifty year period that lasted from 235 C.E. to 285 C.E. A powerful empire consisted of a long-lasting and strong government that was supported by a ruler who was present to rule over the people and had the will to carry out reforms to improve the lives of citizens. In Document A, the chart stated that twenty-two different emperors ruled Rome within the fifty year period. Based on this fact specified by the chart, there was an unstable government that ruled the Roman empire. Because of the weak government that was created, citizens
One of the many noteworthy reasons Rome came to its demise was the unstable nature of their military. The Romans were rarely using their armor to shield themselves and it was getting tiresome to wear the armor. The emperor then did not require the use of body armor anymore, “Therefore, they first asked the emperor to set aside the breastplates… and then the helmets.” (page 15). Because of the decision to cast away the breastplates and helmets, it made it effortless to wound and kill the Romans with skilled archers, such as the Huns (Doc D). Another pivotal fault was the draft, “The exempted categories were...numerous” (Doc B). Draft exemptions meant that not enough men were fighting and too many were lazing around. Even bakers and cooks were not required to serve under martial law(Doc B). Because of these mistakes, the Roman military became weak. Not having enough members on their command,
After Pax Romana Rome started to turn into a moth eaten sweater, shiny and beautiful when you first get it, but then you whare for a couple years during the winter, then it goes to the back of the closet where it is left to rot and become motheaten. In document A is shows the 50 years worth of emperors no not emperor but emperors 22 to be exact. Now you’re probably thinking to yourself how could there be 22 roman emperors over only a 50 year period?
Rome's army became lazy and didn't want to train right and do other things like they abandoned their armor since they were too lazy to wear it. This was said by a roman historian Vegetius in document B. Also said by Vegetius the roman army abandoned their ground drills which made them an easy target. This problem was created because of the army's laziness and the army didn't care about training. Rome also had to draft soldiers but their was a major fluad in the system and certain groups can avoid or escaped being drafted like cooks, bakers, and slaves. This was written by Michael Grant a reappraisal and since different groups of people can escape the draft the military didn't get as many soldiers. If you want a huge empire you need good leadership but that what rome lacked the
In the 5th century C.E, the Roman Empire, a shell of what it once was, was sacked due to multiple problems inside and outside its huge borders. Weak leadership, military problems, & foreign invasions were the 3 primary reasons for the “fall” of Rome. Due to these unresolved issues, the Romans lost the power & authority that once made them so powerful and revered across the world and fell to enemies that they once could have easily defeated. To begin with, a constant change of weak leadership lead to an unstable empire. In Document A, emperors were constantly changing, often in violent ways such as assassination & suicide.
Although the fall of Rome remains obscure, what many historians fail to realize is that the decline of the Roman Empire was the epitome of cause and effect relationships. Properly analyzing the fall of Rome leads historians to realize that a chain of circumstances, beginning with the political corruption of the Western empire, was a catalyst for superfluous military spending and economic failure, all which contributed to the fall of Rome. Because the Praetorian Guard would select the highest bidder and put him into office, the emperors would not represent the people as a whole and did not instill the beliefs that the people held. In Document 1, Roman Emperors, 235-285, a chart shows the inconsistency of the Roman emperors and the violence
Rome, one of the most enormous and powerful empires to ever exist also eventually crumbled. There are many beliefs to why this happened, such as the increasingly weak boundaries, lack of assurance on the emperor's, an increasingly horrible economics system, and a backlash on the new origin of Christianity to name a few. What was known as one of the biggest empires known to date also eventually came to it’s unfortunate end.
The most important reason for the fall of Rome was that they had military problems because they weren’t using armor, and not enough men to fight battles or wars. Vegetius, a Roman historian, explained, “ Therefore, they first asked the emperor to set aside the breastplates… and then the helmets” (Document B). What led to the fall of Rome was that the armies were getting inactive for wearing armor and were losing a lot of men because they weren’t wearing armor. This also led to the downfall of Rome because a lot of men didn’t get drafted to the army and the Roman armies didn’t have a lot of men to fight wars. Michael Grant, a historian, wrote The Fall of the Roman Empire: A Reappraisal.
Ever wonder what happened to Rome? Rome was one of the most powerful civilizations of the Middle Ages. Nevertheless, Rome was overcome by weak leaders and Barbaric Invasion. The Roman Empire started in 753 (before common era) to 476 (common era) . Rome was in parts of Europe, Asia, and Africa. The Fall of Rome was caused by weak leaders and barbaric invasions.
A plant, it grows to blossom but eventually it starts to wither away. Just like a plant, there is Rome. The Roman Empire was ruling everything but then they started to fall. How did the Roman Empire fall anyways? Well, the downfall of Rome was created all from military problems, foreign invasions, and natural disasters.
After 50 thousand deaths, it was clear, Rome was seen, as a declining empire and a sinking world. I think the fall of the Roman Empire was due to Military weakness, weak leadership, and disasters and diseases.
