My first reason standardized tests are not a good idea is that they overpopulate the schools. Texas takes 15 and Indiana takes 5. The tests take away time from learning more about a subject. Our country as a whole takes way to many standardized tests. standardized tests are overpopulating schools and not letting kids learn more parts of the subjects.
Personally, I think standardized testing should be stopped because the cons of testing outweigh the pros. One major con is that the testing does not truly measure the actual skill of a student in a given subject. The tests often are majority multiple choice which doesn’t let you know if they truly know the material or just happened to choose the correct answer. Another con is, tests like the Sat and Act can greatly impact someone's future. A student who has maintained a 4.0 GPA or higher could be denied from getting into a school because they didn’t do well on one of those tests. A student doing that well in school should not have to worry about being accepted into a college because of one test. Which is why these test should not be taken
Standardized Testing has many cons compared to pros. The biggest con of all is the stress it puts on students and teachers alike. The stress it puts on teachers is that sometimes teacher’s teach according to the test because they want to
At the beginning of the school system, many changes have been made. Standardized testing, however, is a part of the school system that has not been changed in very many ways, and has very many problems with it. With the many problems that standardized testing has, it should be removed from the school system all together.
Picture a monkey, elephant, and fish all being told to climb a tree to pass a test. It seems like an unfair advantage, right? That’s because it is, and standardized tests have the same effect on students. The dispute of whether standardized tests should be given to students or not has been going on since these tests were first given. Students should not have to pass a statewide standardized test before graduating because every individual has a different way of showing knowledge, students get test anxiety, and everyone possesses different learning levels.
Standardized tests have been around for a very long time, and they are probably going to be around for a long time to come. Testing students does provide information about a school district, student, and teacher, but it is definitely not the entire picture. Everyone would probably agree that the results of one test would not be a fair evaluation of the student. In order to fairly evaluate a student, grades, tests scores, and progress should all be considered. Teachers should be evaluated in the same way as the students, through student’s progress, grades and tests scores. There is no way to fairly evaluate a teacher if you are solely or mainly counting test scores. Standardized tests are not a fair way to evaluate a teacher.
Imagine being slouched over a test booklet thinking,”A,B,C or D, which one is it?” Who wants to go through that? Standardized tests are not necessary for student to take. They stress out some people, testing takes to long to complete, and the results take too long to return.
Teachers being evaluated are similar to schools being evaluated. If a school as a whole test poorly there is a risk that they could lose students. Since there is a risk of consequences at schools, there is a pressure to save themselves at the expense of their students. Schools feel pressured by the public to perform well, often what they do is try and transfer the struggling students to other schools to try and take them out of the equation. There are programs that are put into place to help schools keep up with the standard testing curriculum, like The No Child Left Behind Act. The No Child Left Behind Act tests that judge the schools ' performance has the power to close schools, fire staff or turn the school, private if the school continues to struggle with overall testing scores. Schools try to save themselves so that they unforced into something that they do not want to do, for example shutting down their school. Standardized testing isn 't cheap. "Forty-four states and the District of Columbia currently spend over $1.7 billion dollars for these tests." (Tager 1) Title 1 schools are schools where a majority of students are low income, so the state helps pay for these schools so they can stay caught up academically. Schools pay extensive amounts of money for these tests, and 58% of public schools are Title 1 schools. Since over half of the public schools in America are Title 1, a majority of students are not able to transfer from low performing schools, leaving them
Stuck in a room test after test can we go outside yet? No. Come on
“I care more about the people my students become than the scores on the tests they take,” once stated by an unknown author. Students shouldn’t have to take standardized tests for many reasons some reasons being the tests take up too much time, also gives the students stress, and the tests put the students in moody tones.
Do you really think having to sit on a wooden seat for nearly two hours is really worth it? Especially having to sit for a ridiculous test? If you ask me, I’d say “heck no”! While researching text I’ve gotten to the conclusion that standardized test should be eliminated from school districts. Due to the voluminous amount of statistical data and research, there is no doubt-standardized tests should no longer be continued, but however, should be taken out and discontinued, while being removed forever and ever.
It doesn’t matter if you're in Elementary school, Middle school or even High school everybody in school has to take test in every subject for everything. Year after year you come back to school just to retake the same test you did last year to see if your in the average scoring that you should be for your class grade year. I believe that schools should not test students with a standardized test to see if they are where they need to be. Many kids learn at a different speed, it's wasting a lot of money and we should have different test for different people on how to test them to see if there where they need to be.
Everyone hates on standardized tests, but what’s so terrible about seeing what you have learned? It’s a good idea to give students standardized tests. It closes educational gaps, shows if students are doing good work, and reduces other assignment’s.
Standardized testing should be banned because it does not accurately measure a student's academic career skills, but instead causes unnecessary stress. Standardized tests require students to pay and focus on test taking skills, rather than actual knowledge, and more students would go to a college if it was not required to take the SAT. According to Robert Prentice whose is a professor and department chair in the McCombs School of Business (¨Teachers Cheat on Tests as a Reaction to Poor Education Policy¨) he says, “by putting so much emphasis on student test scores, teachers were incentivized to cheat in order to prevent students from being labeled failures and to keep schools from being closed¨. A test should not be the deciding factor of a studentś future career. However, many teachers did not cheat and even tried to turn in the teachers who did cheat, but the teachers still get in trouble. Cheating is wrong and there is no excuse. We understand that the teachers would want their students to succeed in
Growing up in Chesapeake, every student is forced to take a standardized test at the end of every course they take. Standardized testing has been a part of the educational system for so long that students have become accustomed to taking these tests. Continuing to have standardized test will set up students for more failure in the future. Standardized testing does not just effect the students, but it also effects the teachers. The Chesapeake School Board should dismiss standardized testing in all grade levels because of different learning style, it limits the teachers to what they can teach and poor test scores.
