You are driving in your car when suddenly your stomach rumbles. You are hungry. Do you decide to pick up some fast food or go home and spend the time to make yourself a meal? Let us assume we do not have the time to create our own meal. When you get to the restaurant of your choice, do you park in the closest parking spot to the door or do you simply use the drive-through? What do you choose to eat? Is it something processed and frozen or do you choose something made fresh? After eating your food you decide to go to the mall. You pass advertisements of smiling thin happy models. You need to get to the second floor. Do you take the elevator, the escalator, or the stairs? These are choices we face every day that can impact our lives today, …show more content…
When dieting and exercising, it is important to watch muscle mass because “low muscle mass is linked to higher risk of heart disease, obesity, diabetes, osteoporosis, high blood pressure, and metabolic syndrome” (Turner). The scale may show a decrease in weight, but it is not showing the increase in risks acquired by loss of muscle mass. By making muscle mass a priority the risk of other health complications decreases. However there are other factors that may impact priorities. According to the article, “Poverty Kills,” Good health comes from a variety of factors and influences 50 percent socio-economic factors…education, income, early childhood development, employment, work conditions, culture, gender, and personal health practices; 15 percent biology and genetics; 10 percent physical environment. There are many factors that create good health, and should be dealt with carefully when prioritizing life.
