Why Softball Is Important

Becoming an athlete was the smartest and most influential activity I have partaken in which has left such an enormous impact on my life. Developing into adolescence, I learned that I treasured to get dirty and often distributed physical and mental stability. Softball was the perfect sport to grasp onto and acquire skills for livelihood. It teaches detachment, dedication, teamwork, and many other traits. I have played six years of softball all together on three different types of teams, and I cannot remember a time I was on the diamond that I did not achieve a type of educational increase.

As I was growing up, my parents always wanted to find something to help me be active with other children. I was extremely shy and would not talk to anyone. At the age of six, I chose to try out for softball, but I was not sure if it was something I would continue to play. Softball has helped me break out of my comfort zone and talk to people, make lifelong friends, and be stronger as an individual. The older I got, the more open I was, but my first year of JV is what broke my shell.

“Be remembered!” echoes through my mind every time I get up to bat. From tee ball to now, softball has made a massive impact on my life. Ever since I was five years old, I have been playing the game that I love the most.

References to the title in Harper Lee’s novel To Kill a Mockingbird suggest that both Tom Robinson and Boo Radley are “mockingbirds.” The reader is lead to understand that the term suggests an innocent, harmless creature who should not be made to suffer. To Kill a Mockingbird is a sin. This book shows Tom Robinson and Boo Radley as mockingbirds. Boo Radley was the victim of harsh parenting and prejudgement. Tom Robinson was the victim of racism.

Some people think that softball is just a game. A game where the blood, sweat, and tears do not have meaning. On the other hand, the blood, sweat, and tears have more meaning than some people think. It is part of softball. A place where the people always have my back. The place where I met my two best friends. I have learned discipline, life lessons, and leadership skills from softball. It is a place I can shut out real life problems. Softball is more than just a game; it is my life.

Softball has taught me many life skills like how to get along with twenty girls and have a friendship with each and every one of them. Also, I think it has really shaped my life a small amount; I don’t think I’m the same person I was two months ago. Even though my team didn't win every game or even most of our games, we still acted like a unit and didn't give up easily and we played our hardest at every game. Honestly from my own opinion, I think losing made us even closer to each other and we weren't a cocky team either we were just really confident.

Softball is a sport that is known throughout the United States and the world. Softball originated on Thanksgiving Day in Chicago in 1887. The game was actually said to have begun as an indoor game. Softball was started by a group of men who had gathered at a club to watch the Harvard vs. Yale football game. When the news came that Yale had defeated Harvard, 17-8, one Yale supporter, overcome with enthusiasm, picked up an old boxing glove and threw it at a nearby Harvard alumni, who promptly tried to hit it back with a stick. This gave George Hancock, a reporter for the Chicago Board of Trade, an idea. He suggested a game of indoor baseball. Naturally, Hancock's friends thought he was talking about playing a game outdoors, not indoors.

Softball is a growing sport for girls within the United States. Whether you are an 8-year-old girl, to a senior in college softball, it’s a sport that many are attached too. A new form of hitting came into play during the 2005 Women’s College Series. Slap hitting is a new form of hitting that changed the way the game of fast-pitch softball is being played. Slapping changed the way coaches and players think about how they are going to field a slap hitter. This form of hitting is becoming a major role within fast-pitch softball. When I got the opportunity to learn how to slap hit I was excited to gain this ability. With practice, patience and determination, I began to learn the hitting style that I use today.

Softball for many people is the way of life, we eat, sleep, and play softball. Softball is a great sport for a lot of girls that want to be active and even stay out of trouble. Softball can be great for starting conversation because on the field you always have to talk, so your teammates now what is going on and where everyone is on the field. But when you play softball you always have a rush of enjoyment, and nerves.

Ever since I was 4 years old I’ve wanted to be a professional softball player when I was 4 my mom taught me how to play and then I’ve been playing and loving it since then. My main 2 positions are shortstop and catcher I’ve always played those to positions. I’ve always really looked up to a professional softball player named Jennie Finch she is and amazing softball player. Furthermore when softball season is over 3 ways I stay fit for softball is I run track everyday and i go to they gym every weekend if I can. Besides all of that I really love softball and I’m going to work very hard to become a professional softball player.

We have all been that one freshman, being the little fish in the big pond. You try to get yourself known around school but sometimes that is hard to do.Thinking about joining a sport or club but don’t know what one. Well one sport a freshman could do is softball. Softball is a wonderful sport for freshman to play because you can improve your game, be on a team with your friends, and get a whole new experience.

“The inclusion of the package of new sports will afford young athletes the chance of a lifetime to realize their dreams of competing in the Olympic Games – the world's greatest sporting stage – and inspire them to achieve their best, both in sport and in life (Elliott).” Softball should be back in the Olympics because it makes money and and benefits players by increasing interests.

Sticks and stones may break my bone but that is far from the truth.  Personally, I believed I played baseball proficiently, but various people repeatedly told me I could not. I found myself; Therefore, I  realized I was not as good as I thought I was.   At first, it hurt me physically and emotionally, but later I realized the hurt I felt affected me much greater.

I enjoy helping others pursue their passions and achieve their goals. Softball is a sport that has taught me many important life lessons including teamwork, leadership, and dedication. As softball is a sport that has taught me so much, I spent several weeks of my high school summers volunteering at softball camps. It was always rewarding to see the young girls discover their passion for the game just as I did when I was their age.
