Why Spanish Is Important

In America, there is a predominant growth in multiple ethnicities and cultural backgrounds; leading to the usage of multiple languages in the American culture. There is a growing need for many people to learn and utilize multiple languages within the workplace and within one 's own personal life. The importance of bilingualism and the knowledge of multiple languages is ever increasing, and therefore becoming more important for the younger generations. The push for knowing multiple languages and becoming bilingual has many potential negative and positive effects.

Even though my mother was Mexican it was hard for me to speak to my friends who knew mostly Spanish and a little English because Spanish was not my first language. As years went on, I went to high school, where now I can have a full conversation with my Spanish speaking friends, and since it is an international high school, it brings in more cultural diversity. With this international high school in El Paso, it has helped me learn new cultures and experience the dozens of traits they do for activities or how they celebrate

In and outside of the classroom, learning about both the Spanish language and culture has always interested me. To delve myself into the culture, I decided to join Spanish Club and the Spanish National Honors Society, both which allowed me to experience and better understand the eccentric Hispanic culture.

Apart from the exam, the course itself fully immerses you into the Spanish language. It's comprised of six main themes: global challenges, beauty and aesthetics, science and technology, contemporary life, personal and public identities, families and communities. Moreover, I'm accustomed to speaking informally,as a result, I find the courses formal speaking ways to be challenging. Additionally, I find the themes relating to our current scientific advances and our Law system will be the hardest thing for me to grasp.

Even though it wasn’t the best help I could get; it brought my grade up from failing to just passing. This surprised me as I thought there wasn’t that big of a difference from the Tex-Mex my uncle taught me and the Spanish that we were learning. However, foreign language classes teach the language in its purest form to help prevent the language and its proper use from being lost.

Speaking Spanish or any second language opens a lot of doors in life. While the little Spanish I do know is incomprehensible to most fluent Spanish-speakers, it has helped me in some situations. When learning a new language, educating, experiencing, and learning about the culture behind the language is paramount. It is not simple enough to learn the vocabulary and grammar of Spanish. As a Spanish 1010 student, my learning experience has been enriched through participating in cultural events.
