The third reason student athletes should get a salary is because it will make the game more competitive. Currently the average NFL superstar makes 23 million dollars a year. The NFL pays its players based on their worth and how they perform each and every game. These high payments only motivate them to work harder to maintain their highest level of performance. “If college athletes were paid they would not have to worry where they will get their money. This will help them focus more on their game rather than worrying about a part time job” (“Marc Edelman”). The payment of college athletes would definitely increase the energy and ambition of each game.
College athletes are some of the busiest students going to school these days. In Tyson Hartnett’s article, “Why College Athletes should be Paid” he gives his audience valid points and arguments on why he believes they should make a little extra money. I agree with Hartnett with why they should be paid for the sake of their already busy schedules, for what they all do for the school, and being able to make a little money for their futures.
I would find it a bit too drastic to resemble the structural hierarchy of the NCAA with slavery.
How much harder would athletes work if they were paid for their performance on the field, track, or court? College athletes are put to the test each and everyday, they risk their health to entertain millions day in and day out. College athletes deserve part of the money due to the revenue they bring in for their schools and for the NCAA, they deserve the money because they do not have time to get a job because they are practicing and training at least 40 hours a week, they should also get paid because they are used as marketing models for the ncaa and for their universities. College athletes also should not get paid because they are already getting paid in scholarship money. College athletes deserve to get paid because they are putting their bodies on the line just so the NCAA and their sponsors can make money.
Why college athletes should get payed There are many reasons on why college athletes should be paid, not only because it’s a “ free ride “ to a spot in the nba, The private life of college players are so busy that some actually need that money. All ride scholarships don’t really accomplish some things that people need, like food costs and in some occasions living costs. From my opinion I think it’s only fair to give a certain pay to a person who represents you in a sport. The easiest question would be why not pay them because it would make the sport way more competitive and fun to see, already we have people doing the most to get scouted and seen by people… imagine if they get payed by rushing yards, touchdowns, goals, three pointers, everything would rely on the stats.
The NCAA is one of the most profitable organizations in the world due to their monopoly on major college sports. Across the country there are over one thousand colleges and universities in the NCAA separated into 3 divisions, with a total of 89 different sporting events, and a staggering four hundred thousand student athletes in the organization. The NCAA makes money in primarily one way and that’s ad revenue for the commercials played during an event. In the Men’s NCAA Basketball tournament a 30 second add cost over seven hundred thousand dollars to run. The NCAA is a big business with millions of fans, so it is surprising that so few want to hold them accountable for the damages that they cause in their “amateur athletes”. The only difference
The NCAA is an organization, founded by Theodore Roosevelt in 1906, led by a group of board members who’s goal is to have college players succeed both athletically and scholarly; coined the term ‘student athlete.’ The sport of football was having many problems in the late 1800’s/early 1900’s and President Roosevelt said, “reform the game or it will be abolished.” Thus, the birth of the NCAA was formed and rules were set to make the game safer to the athletes. The NCAA currently has three different divisions: Division I, Division II, and Division III. Each division has its own set of rules on what restrictions are placed. Division I is said to be the most competitive division where the top talent goes and where a lot of professional teams pull from. The NCAA is the main headline for all college sporting events and “runs the show” telling what people can, and cannot, do. The
Why College Student-Athletes Should be Paid According to a 2011 NCAA survey the average college student-athlete spends 30-40 hours practicing a week. This includes a wide variety of sports from football to track. From the gym to the weight room being a college athlete is similar to a full time job.
Which can be hard for some athletes like basketball players who play in like major tournaments like National Collegiate Athletics Association tournament or commonly known as March Madness that starts on March 17 and ends April 6.
Many student-athletes can have their whole career, their passion, and love of their respected sport taken away from them with just 1 play. The student-athletes are representing their respective school and making the school more popular and more students will want to enroll there and the student-athletes are making the NCAA millions of dollars, but the NCAA will not give the student-athletes just a little allowance because it will “ruin the integrity of college sports”. Student athletes-athletes should get paid because students could get hurt in one play, the NCAA makes millions of dollars on the the players, and it will make the players do smarter things with their money.
NCAA stands for National Collegiate Athletic Association. It’s a non-profit association that regulates and organize athletes of 1,281 institutions; conferences; organizations; and individuals. They were founded in 1906 by Theodore Roosevelt after threatening to get rid of football if things weren’t changed to make things fair. President Roosevelt’s dream still hasn’t come true because coaches, administrators and athletic directors get paid millions of dollars to coach and be mentors to these players. But the players don’t get a small piece of the it, even if they work more hours than than the average American worker, miss numerous amounts of classes because of required tournaments, give fake or independent classes so that their gpa high enough for them eligible to play, and sometimes leave college
Good morning ladies and gentlemen, and thank you all for being here today. I humbly express my gratitude for your interest in the topic of paying college athletes. As I have previously stated, I am standing against this change for this topic and you should too.
Some may say student – athletes have it easy because they get to go to school for free and live the life of a college athlete when that is not the case in most situations. College athletes are in the business of marketing at a young age without playing professional sports which is a business. Which is why I believe student – athletes should be paid to play college sports. My reasons for this argument are that the student athlete may need spending money and money to support their families, secondly the schools along with their sport profits off of the students athletes names, and lastly for big events some student athletes are required to miss schools due to these events.
How would you know what you are really good at if you don’t try everything? You would never know what you are really good at until you have tried everything. Although some people believe that limiting extracurricular activities will help you to stay on track, I think it is better if I decide how I want to spend my time because no one knows what I am really capable of better than myself and because some people are looking forward to getting athletic scholarships for college.
Over the years, the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) has had controversy on whether or not student athletes should receive money for the sport they play. For sports fans, this issue can turn into a heated debate. In some circumstances, certain people believe that student athletes already have enough privileges. To the latter group of individuals, student athletes do not get enough and should get money for the sport they play. As a matter of fact, most college athletes will probably tell you that they should be. Student athletes should be paid for their sport.
Student athletes in college are held to a higher standard than normal students since they are juggling a lot more in their lives. Student athletes have to set aside a lot of time for practice while still maintaining good grades and a social life. Some people believe that because of this demanding schedule that student athletes should be paid. Where on the other hand many believe that they shouldn’t since they choose to be on a sports team, this is a topic that is debated upon by many. One solution could be to lower the tuition for student athletes since they are offering their talents to the school. As long as the students stay on the team they will get some money off their college tuition every year.
