For decades, primary and secondary schools are stuck in tradition of having school for nine months and having several long breaks including a two-month summer break. Several states in the United States and in Canada have been throwing around the idea of year-round school. Some say that year-round schooling is a good thing for the children and others say that the children need a break from school, but also have a higher chance of forgetting the material before they return to school the following year. With year-round school, its focusing more on the students’ education and not the convivence for parents and school board.
Students look forward to getting out of school for summer. They count down the last few days until the bell rings on that last day and they are out for summer break. They get so excited to be able to go on vacations, spend more time reading, visiting family, and of course, sleeping in. Children also look forward to going back to school after summer break. They are so excited for the first day of class that they have to get all new school supplies. They wake up extra early and are ready to learn on that first day. If school was all year round, I believe students would never look forward to school and would affect their learning. Therefore, in my opinion, I do not believe school should be year round.
Did you know that all year round schools are the same length as regular schools? As of now are school day length is roughly 180 days, the all year round schools are roughly 180 days long. The only reason why people think that you go to school longer in a year round school is because you only get a month off in the summer, the rest of the time is spread out between our Easter and Christmas holidays. Pros of year round schooling would include longer breaks on holidays, for example, instead of getting two weeks off during the Christmas holidays we might get three weeks off for Christmas holidays. Another pro of year round schooling would be would be, the school would not be empty for two months at a time, when the school is empty for two months at a time the owner starts to lose money because they are still paying for water and power bills even though nothing is being used. A con of all year round schooling would be you don’t graduate from school earlier than all of the other schools, just because you only get one month off in the summer doesn't mean that you still learn for an extra month. Year round schooling holidays are just separated more compared to just having two months off during summer and a week or two off during holidays. The final pro of having year round schooling would be not having the school closed for two month at a time. One of the worst things about year round schooling is summer holidays, the person who pays the bills for year round schooling is not getting
Every students is ready for that last day of school, but now schools are considering to take that excitement away from students with year long school. There are so many negatives to this choice and i'm going to discuss same of them.
Imagine a student sitting in a classroom in the middle of July not because the student is in summer school making up lost credits, but because the student is in year round school. Schools of America want to find new easy ways to help students learn more and not lose information, so the government and some schools went with year round education. More schools are considering going with this idea. Schools should adopt year round education because students will remember more and will still get the same amount of school days but get breaks more frequently than the standard school schedule.
The possibility of year round schools has been a hot debate topic for quite some time. The question is, is the idea of year round schools acceptable considering all the potential drawbacks? Year round schooling can be disruptive to both the family of the students and the teachers themselves, it can be too costly for a large group of people, and year round schools do not provide the same opportunity for learning as the traditional school year does. For several reasons, the traditional school year, which runs for ten months instead of eleven, is more beneficial in comparison to year round schooling.
Have you ever wondered why teachers take a whole month to review everything from the previous year or why students tend to forget everything? Every year, students are keeping their calendars at hand and counting down the days until summer vacation. It’s the last day of school and when the final bell rings, kids are ready to do nothing for three months. However, is this really a good thing? The possibility of having year-round schools is at hot debate topic right now and it is time for change from traditional calendar schools. Schools should incorporate a system where schooling is year-round instead of having a long summer break because this allows for more learning and would prevent the problem of students forgetting everything they’ve
Three reasons I am against year-round school. I wouldn't have a summer break, we have to attend summer school, and we only get three weeks off. I am against this year-round school because we wouldn't get to enjoy our self. more often like we do now.
Have you ever thought about how year-round schooling can be beneficial to students? In today’s society, many school districts have been switching from a standard school year to year-round schooling. Year-round schools follow the basic 180 day school year, but the days are more spread out throughout the year following the 45-15 method. Forty five days of school, followed by fifteen day breaks. Year-round schooling is beneficial to many because it prevents students from gaining unwanted weight and causes less stress for teachers and students.
Year round schooling may sound scary but read this and I might change your mind. Year round school is pretty much what is sounds like, except it is the same amount of school days as a regular year, and it has more spread out breaks. Year round school would be beneficial because it consist of less review due to “summer slide”, more “family time”, and longer more spread out breaks.
A teacher who was part of a year round system recounts, “I found myself going through 3 school years without that opportunity for self-assessment and planning for the future of the educational program.” (“The Effect of Year Round Schools” 1999/22 February 2005). With a much shorter summer break, teachers will not have enough time to increase their education, which can benefit the learning of their students. For these reasons, year round schools are not as beneficial as the traditional school year.
Students can sometimes complain about how long the school year is and how they cannot wait for summer. There is a solution to this problem and it is known as year-round schooling. This helps to fix many problems for students. It gives them vacation time between each semester, allowing their brains to have a time of rest. Also, with a shorter summer break it allows for student´s brains to not forget extensive amounts of information. Since students do not lose the information over the summer this accounts for less reviewing time and more time to learn about new subjects. With more education upon the student it allows them to test higher than other non-year-round schoolers. There are year-round schools and they should spread throughout all high schools, in the United States, because it will be beneficial to the students.
Have you ever found yourself in the same schedule? Repeating almost the same day over and over. Students with traditional scheduled schooling have to go 70 plus days before just a short break. If we had year-round schooling the most we would have to go to school before a break is 45 days. Plus students would be able to advance more quickly, teachers would be happier, and our school would have a higher grade point average. This is why year-round schooling could help the staff and students of linden schools.
Its mid June and students are anxious and have been long waiting for summer break. After about 10 months of hard work students should have the next 2 months to themselves. Over 3,000 schools in the country have made the switch to this new schedule. But is it really the right change? No, Schools should not change to this new schedule. With this change comes a rise in cost, difficult situations, stress and many other complications that would not be present with the traditional schedule.
Why is a year-round school a bad idea? Having a summer vacation gives students motivation throughout the school year. It is a bad idea to make our winter break longer than summer break because some students work over the summer, students are not getting the best education they could, and they will not have much time to spend with their family.
