In Christine Hauser’s article in the New York Times called “The Snow Leopard Is No Longer Endangered. It’s Still at Risk.”, highlights that in recent studies the snow leopard population is no longer an endangered species. However, the article states that the population still needs to be monitored closely because although they are no longer a “very high risk” they still pose a “high risk”. The approximate number of snow leopards in the wild is about 4,000. This number is up from recent years, obviously, but this doesn’t mean the snow leopard is safe. Numbers could potentially fall again because of several factors including habitat loss and poaching (Hauser, Christine). Some reasons they are so sought after by poachers is because they possess
For example, the wolves have been growing a lot over the past years there are 400–450 wolves in the Greater Yellowstone Ecosystem. They shouldn’t have wolves in Yellowstone because it will kill the other animals. We don’t want animals getting hurt or even extinct because it would be bad not being able to have enough animals. A couple hunters have been saying that they’ve never
If people don’t put a stop to people hitting panthers with their cars and killing them in the forests the panther will soon become extinct. Panthers are a protection to our forests and wildlife. The alert level for this issue is a high alert level because of how close they are to becoming extinct. I think they should protect panthers as much as they could because if they put up fences around busy highways they could save panthers from going extinct. The conservation of the fish and wildlife committee is doing all they can to protect these panthers from coming
This is a tragic notion that animal species are going instinct at a substantial rate. For every animal species that is in danger of going instinct, i.e. the Amur leopard, mountain gorilla and south china tiger. There are new animal species, scientists are finding out about every day, i.e. the cartwheeling spider, bone-house wasp and marine pill bug. The world is not in a crisis because there are animals going instinct. These animals are going instinct we do not need to survive. Let’s be honest do we really need to see a polar bear? The answer is no, yes it would be nice, but for survival or making life better
Americans are constantly sharing their opinions about the government. In Stupid White Men by Michael Moore, he conveys his perspective. By putting several individuals on the spot, he reasons how the country went downhill, including the economic catastrophe, and the political, economic, and environmental issues. In addition, Moore touches on topics of racism and gender. Michael Moore provides readers with specific precedents that lead us to agree with his view on the country, “our Century 21 Nightmare!”
The Amur Leopards are endangered because there are people all around the world that are trying kill the leopards. The leopards are the cutest animal on earth I don’t want anybody to kill them to have their skin. The leopards don’t like to be killed. The scientist are studying the leopards so kids all around the world want to see the leopards. The kids say that the leopards are their favorite animal in the zoo.
In the article I read it talked about how caribou could become extinct very soon if we do not do anything about it. It talks about how only a few herds left in America and Canada. Also that the main reason the caribou are going extinct is because of all the wolves killing them. It says that canadian government hunters have killed entire wolf packs to try to help with the caribou extinction. The scientist said the wolf population can easily withstand that kind of aggressive hunting. Another factor to the caribous going extinct is all the clear cutting of the forest, oil development, and mining. Even the places that have grown back have small trees and and willows which favor deer, elk, and moose. Scientist say the government need to give more
Even though Henry David Thoreau is one of the most famous writer in the New England Renaissance period, and his book Walden is the most iconic work of the period that many believe in his value of life, but in my opinion I hold a totally opposite view to his value of life. From this quote “Think I shall not buy greedily, but go around and around it as long as I live.” It expresses the idea that people should admire what they believed it’s beautiful and valuable without purchasing it. It will show its flaw if put in a real world situation, suppose somebody went to a book store and found a book that he really favors, if following Thoreau’s value of life, the man should come to the book store every day to read the book without buying it, which
“Around the turn of the century, large predators such as wolves and mountain lions, were eliminated from much of the white-tails range, removing the natural check on deer numbers.” Hunting is not the problem with animals going extinct the problem is the animals predators. For an example coyotes are a big problem with the deer populations. People think that hunters are making the deer population go down, but it is the deer’s predators that are making the population go down. There is a legal limit to how many deer a person can shoot a season. Each season you need a tag for the deer you shoot and when you shoot the deer it is a law that you have to call the DNR so that they know how many deer are shot each year. Animals are not hunted to extinction.
The Amur leopard is a subspecies of leopards typically found in the African savannah, this particular species however is native to the tundra of northeast China and far eastern Russia. They are a critically endangered derivative of wild cats, with only an estimated fifty individuals left in the wild. Much like other big cat species, the Amur leopard tends to live alone, except to breed. Females sexually mature around the ages of three or four years, usually having anywhere from one to four cubs at a time, and after about two years, the cubs become fully independent. Being carnivorous, the amur leopard’s diet consists of predominantly deer and other wildlife native to the tundra of eastern Russia.
One specific examples of a species that has had some success with the Species Survival Plan is the Amur Leopard. The Amur leopard is critically endangered with only an estimated 30 to 40 adults left in the wild. The Species Survival Plan thus far has been able to boost the population with an estimated 50 adults to be in the wild by the end of 2015. This would be a 75 percent increase from the estimate numbers in 2012. Before the Species Survival Plan, inbreeding was a danger to the integrity of the Amur Leopard, but with the increase of the wild population and the population in zoos around the world, the species looks to continue its rebound (Amur Leopards).
Since the beginning of life itself, some species have lived and prospered while other species have gone extinct never to be seen again by mankind. Because of this, some would claim that extinction is natural and not significantly problematic to the world that we live in. Others, however, understand that due to climate change, habitat loss, and poaching, more and more species are becoming endangered which leads to a chain reaction that can be devastating to ecosystems. Species such as the Chinook salmon, gorillas, tropical sharks, and polar bears are all directly affected by climate change, species such as northern spotted owls, Sumatran tigers, and lemurs are greatly harmed due to habitat loss, and species such as the sea turtle, Javan rhinoceros, African elephant, and the Red-Fronted Macaw are all affected by poaching driving them all closer and closer to becoming extinct.
Spotted leopard is endangered species because of over hunting. It is one of the five big cats in the genus Panthera. Is also a member of the Felidae family. This PC currently resides in the sub Sahara part of Africa and parts of Asia. The spotted leopard like other leopards have short legs. The spotted leopard only girls to about 3 feet tall. The leopards girl is rather large with these largest canines has any other feline. Another name for leopards is johar 's both leopards and johar 's that are metallic are known as Black Panthers. The spotted Panther is known for it 's golden red spots. The spotted leopard shows the great diversity of species with several different patterns in the spots. The spotted leopard species has several different
Genetic engineering is a practice commonly used in food to produce yields of superior size or quality. Recently this technology has been tested on humans. The human race will now be able to improve upon itself and their offspring. With this technology disease can be disposed of and normal people can become better than average. Not all technology needs to be utilized. Genetic engineering that should not be used in humans unless done to prevent or treat disease until it is fully understood since the consequences are undetermined and potentially devastating.
It is obvious that primary predators such as wolves are tigers are important to having a well-balanced ecosystem. However, there will always be controversy because there will be ranchers and other groups who find problems with carnivore conservation and reintroduction. Research has proven they are significant to restoration of the ecosystem and their presence is good for the environment. The widely-debated issue of bringing back carnivores such as wolves to their former home ranges should be taken seriously and both sides will need to come together to find common ground that can benefit both predators and mankind.
Poaching is a worldwide problem because it is affecting the whole food chain, including humans. A year after a logging road went into forest areas in Sarawak, Malaysia, in 2001, not a single large mammal remained (Begley). If one animal goes extinct, then a snowball effect will happen because the animal that depended on the extinct animal for food will have a harder time getting food and eventually that species will die off also, leaving us humans with very little food choices in our future.
