Survival continue to live or exist, especially in spite of danger or hardship. Troops survive the war by using the training they receive before fighting on the battlefield. “They crawled into tunnels and walked point, and advanced under fire ( The Things They Carried). The troops did a lot of things to survive the war. Most men told their wives and families the reason they survive war was because of hope. Some of the troops gain confidence in each other in order to survive. Confidence in mankind and creed are familiar to flat line amongst occasion of the wars. “They would sit down or kneel, not facing the hole and listening to the ground beneath them (The Things They Carried). The troops listen very careful for other troops. The troops were
The soldiers in the field had no mothers or sisters or girlfriends to look after then when in need, they only had the other men in the field who were just as scared. The only place they could look for comfort was in the arms of other soldiers. The support included comfort in the eyes of death, simple conversation and/ or
Men were living outside for days or weeks on end, with limited shelter from cold, wind, rain and snow in the winter or from the heat and sun in summer. Artillery destroyed the familiar landscape, reducing trees and buildings to desolate rubble and churning up endless mud in some areas. The incredible noise of artillery and machine gun fire, both enemy and friendly, was often incessant. Yet soldiers spent a great deal of time waiting around, and in some quiet sectors there was little real fighting and a kind of informal truce could develop between the two sides. Even in more active parts of the front, battle was rarely continuous and boredom was common among troops, with little of the heroism and excitement many had imagined before the war. The Italian infantry officer Emilio Lussu wrote that life in the trenches was ‘grim and monotonous’ and that ‘if there were no attacks, there was no war, only hard work’.[1] The order to attack – or news of an enemy assault – changed
Surviving the war was not a matter of intelligently planned decisions, but a series of reactions triggered by primal instincts. The animal instincts within strong soldiers inhibited
Description of Life in the Trenches You might be thinking that life in trenches was non-stop death, violence, and pain. But have you ever thought about why? Or what do soldiers do in their trenches when they're not fighting or dying? Do you always trust sources when you read them? Do you always believe what they say on television documentaries?
There is no doubt that when war occurs, every single human being is affected by it even if it is just a little. In the novel, “All Quiet on the Western Front” written by Erich Maria Remarque, a group of teenage men, who also appear to by classmates, are in the German army of World War I because they have chosen to leave their adolescence at home and school for grown up work at the army. Throughout this fictional novel, they face many challenges that result in them not seeing each other ever again because of death. War affects individuals by leaving behind necessities such as education or jobs, not being able to watch over others such as their health, and injuries that soldiers receive while they are at war.
However we also are shown bravery, companionship and acts of kindness as the soldiers struggle to stay humane and sane in a hellish environment.
The troops had little food, lick grass for water, had to bear the sight of other’s deaths, as well as live under the thought that they could
Throughout history, there has always been war, in which survival has been one of the most important aspects. For an individual soldier fighting for a cause, the need for survival is vastly heightened. In the novel All Quiet on the Western Front camaraderie plays a huge role in helping the soldier survive for several reasons; sanity, sense of understanding, and to be at ease. This seemingly small aspect of a soldier's life can be very important and as Lake Bell puts it “The finest lesson I've learned with age is that all I need is a small team of comrades who inspire me, try not to judge me, and remind me when I'm judging myself.”
Survival is to live or exist difficulty, Elizear experienced this by when he was in the camp they would make the whole camp watch someone getting hanged, they would light someone
War, the principle cause of pain and loss, not only affects an individual, but also the land on which it is fought. Soldiers, both men and women who take part in this type of action undergo changes that completely transform them into a distinct person to the one they were before the war. This sort of combat also affects the normal civilians and their ways of living in such a zone since they must find ways to survive, which was the case of the people who lived in the Vinh Moc Tunnels along the demilitarized zone of Vietnam.
Survival is living on the hope that better things are yet to come in your life. Right now in our country people survive because of hope and the belief that people are good and they will help them out. People survive when they are homeless on the streets only because of the people who are good at heart and give them food or money to buy clothing for the winter. Gerta survived because of her family and friends. Anne Frank survived because she believed that “Despite all the evil going on in the world I still believe that all people are good at heart.”
The soldiers uses earth to do sustain life, they dig up trenches, find shelter and food which all gives homes keep them alive and on the go. (how does it all keep them alive?) In this quote specially, a bombardment had occurred and the soldiers used the earth to shelter and bury themselves into it. The relationship between the soldiers is just like the relationship between a mother and her child, who protects and nurtures the child. When the child is scare and in a state of terror, the child would rely on the mother to stabilize with this, the mother offers new life to the child just like how the earth offer new life to the soldiers fighting at the front by being place of comfort.
This had destroyed their mind and any sain part of their body that was one their. This had lead them to deprive sleep, eat and to communicate. These soldiers were not the same, that they were once. In the war they had said, “It is just as much a matter of chance that I am still alive as that I might have been hit”. Every second that they had been on the fighting field this the what is going through their mind.
Imagine you are in a huge room with lots of spider-webs. Then imagine a loaf of bread. You are in a war era with 2 scavengers. All of the people want survival resources but not everyone can survive to the end. In war, not everyone is a soldier……
Survival is being able to endure and live through challenges that may wear you down (mentally or physically), and there are several ways of showing survival. “The Story of Keesh,” by Jack London, depicts survival through a harsh setting. “The Five People You Meet In Heaven,” by Mitch Albom, depicts survival through character development. In sum, the idea of survival is shown in literature through these two different ways.
