Introduction Virginia, officially known as the Commonwealth of Virginia, is one of the thirteen original states in the United States and used to be the first colonial possession established in mainland British America. Due to this reason, Virginia is often called the “Old Dominion” in many times. According to the historical data and statistics, eight American presidents were born in Virginia, which is more than any other states in the country. Therefore, Virginia is also known as the “Mother of Presidents”. With a total area of 42,774.3 square miles, Virginia is located in the South Atlantic region of the United States and is bounded by Maryland, North Carolina, State of Tennessee, Kentucky and District of Columbia. As an international student, I came to America last summer. It was my first time in the United States, and Virginia was my first stop. After studying and living in this beautiful state for nearly half a year, I find that the longer I live here, the more I want to know about it. Hence, I choose Virginia as the topic of my Comprehensive Annual Financial Report (CAFR) analysis paper to take a deep look at the state. The main purpose of my paper is to give an analysis of the overall financial health of Virginia. To access to the goal, I will first examine the quality of CAFR, go through the economic condition, break out the budget, take a brief look at the fund types and finally analysis the financial health of Virginia.
