This iconic woman is considered to be the mother of civil rights. Rosa Parks is considered a hero because of the challenges she faced to overcome civil rights. She is an iconic person because she fought for civil rights, she spoke up on the bus and she has made a lasting impression. These are just a few reasons why she is considered a hero.
Rosa Parks took great pride in what she was fighting for, which was equality, and fighting for the community. First, she was very well respected so the people thought it was best they protest after her incident. First, one of the best moments in history is when she decided not to give up her seat. Kuala Lumpur says "The bus driver demanded that Parks and three other passengers give up their seats to a white man. The other three moved, but Parks had been pushed around enough and refused to yield her seat." (53). This example shows that she was a strong-minded woman and wouldn’t back down. Next, Rosa did so much more that is unnoticed that could be considered iconic. Multiple authors claim "She assisted Conyers in his efforts to make Martin Luther King's birthday a national holiday." ("Rosa Parks"657). This evidence shows how she has done more that still impacts us today. Finally, because she is such an important person she has won plenty of awards. Various authors state "She also received the Presidential Medal of Freedom, the nation's highest civilian honor." ("Rosa Parks"657). This demonstrates why she is considered a hero to many. Because of the act on the bus, she was able to build a legacy for herself by giving back and making such an impact on this
