Without the compass, our technological state would still be in the dark ages. The compass was the greatest invention in history because it increased wealth and it gave a way for information to be spread around the world. Though many people argue against it, the benefits of it outweigh any other invention. To begin, the compass allowed for people expand and grow their fortune. It made going to far away lands easy and less daunting because you knew what direction to be going in and it lowered the constant risk of being lost at sea. This let sailors and citizens alike to go to the Americas and colonize. The large quantities of gold in the west allowed for people to increase their wealth like never before. There was vast amounts of free land to be claimed and new crops to be sold which increased the economy and the populations’ wealth as a whole. Since sailors could sail much further than before, many ideas and innovations were shared unlike any other time in history before it. Medical ideas were transferred which improved the lives of colossal amounts of people throughout Europe and Asia and decreased the suffering of sick and injured people. Inventions were also shared which made lives easier and safer in countless number of ways across the world. Also, easier to farm crops were extended across seas which let people eat more and decreased the amount of starving people throughout the world and lowered how many people were starving. Cattle and horses eased the burden of farmers in the Americas and increased the amount of crops to be planted in a small time. Also, many religions, especially Christianity, were spread all through the Americas and Asia.
