This essay will discuss if we should or should not have gun control. There are many reasons as to why we should have the right to own and carry a concealed weapon. The reason for gun control: “Self-defense is a fundamental right,” says the NRA (National Rifle Association's Institute for Legislative Action). The NRA states that the right to have guns for self-defense is protected in all states because of the U.S. Constitution. Handgun restriction laws have been struck down by the U.S. Supreme Court. A pro is that violent crimes has gone down when more people legally carry guns, the right-to-carry laws have been on the rise in the U.S. since the early 90s. At the same time, the violent crime rates have gone down. The number of privately owned guns has risen by about 100 million people. According to NRA, “in 2010, the nation’s murder rate has gone down by 52% and the total crime rate has gone down by 48%.” …show more content…
The NRA argues that “assault weapons,” or those kind of semi-automatic guns designated in the ban, “have never been used in more than a small percentage of firearm-related crimes.” Some people might say, “Guns are not safe” which in some cases they aren’t. It just depends on who has the gun at the time. We should have a little bit of control on guns just because many criminals purchase guns legally and use them to commit crimes. Background checks should be mandatory when buying any gun from
If there was some type of ban on assault weapons, many lives could be saved. Assault weapons are becoming very attractive to criminals because of their capacity, “an assault weapon is generally considered to be a semiautomatic weapon with a detachable ammunition magazine and some type of advanced feature typically used in military-grade weapons.”(Assault Weapons) For example, most military-style weapons have high capacity of ammunition, meaning they can kill a lot of people in a very short time. Implementing
Gun control has been a long debate to determine if it’s better to have stricter access to firearms. America is one of the few countries that has gun rights embedded in their constitution. But what makes the US exceptional is that it has the right to keep and bear arms, other countries do not provide the right to have access to them, but rather, the government is allowed to regulate its use. The right to bear arms has also been the cause of growing violence and crime, at least according to anti-gun lobbyists. Citizens should be aware the dangers and harm that guns present to society. Controlling the sale of firearms can greatly decrease the number of violent crimes.
Over the past couple of years, gun control has become a major issue in politics in reaction to horrific public shootings involving government buildings and even elementary school children. There have been many heated debates regarding the effectiveness and constitutionality of gun control from both sides of the political spectrum. Although some argue that gun control will lead to a decrease in crime, guns allow individuals to protect themselves when law enforcement cannot, concealed carry helps prevent crime, and the fact that guns are not responsible for crimes caused.
A controversial subject in America today is gun control; should there be or should there not be. I do not know the answer to this question, but I do have an opinion as most citizen of our country. All trough our history guns have been used for the good of the people, and on the other hand, they have been used for the not so good of the people; however, as with most things there is a good use and a bad use. I believe the good uses out weigh the bad uses in this case. In this essay I am going to discuss three reasons I am against gun control: one being it is our constitutional right to bear arms, two every citizen should have the right to protect themselves, their family, and their property, and three for conservation purposes hunting
Gun control laws should regulate production, distribution, ownership and use of firearms by civilians. Gun control laws are not intended to dispossess law abiding citizens of licensed firearms but to intervene on reckless use of firearms that cause harm to the public. Gun control should also make it difficult for criminals to access firearms. Armed civilians have in many instances deterred acts of crime from being instigated by scaring away criminals. Nonetheless, gun laws can only be described as immensely lax. This essay seeks to argue for the enactment of strict gun control laws by highlighting the dangers posed by guns in the hands of members of the public.
For many years there have been arguments over gun control, and if there needs to be more regulations or even ban them. I do not think that banning firearms or adding more regulations would help; if anything it would make things worse.
The topic of gun control in the United States is not debated enough. Every time a headline reads about an incident that happened where guns were involved, powerful politicians and everyday citizens alike turn the other way and choose to be ignorant instead of being upset about these awful current events. Clearly, with so many occurrences and deaths that are caused by gunfire, the United States needs reformation about its current gun control policies, essentially, the United States needs more gun control. It need gun control because several United States citizens take the Second Amendment too literally, and the amount of gun-related crimes, such as mass shootings, suicides, and homicides is too high.
Hello, this writing is to explain why gun control should not be in effect. Have you heard recently about the government trying to place gun control on the us citizens. Gun control should not be placed in the us. It is against the constitution in our 2nd amendment which states that we have the right to bear arms.
All guns have the potential to be dangerous and should be handled with care. Guns have been part of American life for as long as people can remember. For most people guns are perceived as very dangerous and harmful. However, that is not true; guns can be dangerous, but only if they are in the wrong hands. Owning a gun is right that every American should be able to take pride in having. Guns are used for self-defense, hunting, law enforcement and other uses. The right to own a gun is protected in the 2nd constitutional amendment. Therefore, banning guns from being owned or purchased is wrong and unconstitutional. Gun control in the United States should be abolished.
An un-armed population will have a difficult time protecting itself from criminals that clearly do not care about laws and would most likely be more successful in committing a crime if their intended victims are incapable of defending themselves. While there are numerous reasons, including social, economic and mental health, as to why criminals commit crimes, having access to guns is not one of them. The 2nd Amendment of the Constitution states, "A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed” (U.S. Const. amend. II). Protecting the 2nd Amendment of the Constitution is vital because limiting or outright denying law-abiding citizens the ability to possess firearms, which are nothing more than a tool, will cause more problems, such as higher crime rates, than it would solve.
Original: A study shows that “46% of gun owners report that their primary reason for owning a firearm is for protection against criminal victimization” (Wallace 158). This statistic is one main reason why gun control should be limited. If America were to take away the right to bear arms, nearly half of all people who own guns would lose their sense of security in their own home, town, and country. Esposito and Finley quote a policer office from 2013 saying “simply calling 911 and waiting is no longer your best option” (86). This isn’t because the police force doesn’t do their job well, but because criminals in the twenty first century are merciless and don’t allow time for cops to come save the day.
The correlation with handgun ownership and the amount of suicides every year is a highly debated subject. A majority of suicides in America were decided on impulse (less than five minutes of thought) rather than non-impulsive. With this in mind, the quickest way for a person to commit suicide is with a gun. Gun control advocates believe that having guns present in a household increases the risk of suicide. “There are at least a dozen U.S. case-control studies in the peer-reviewed literature, all of which have found that a gun in the home is associated with an increased risk of suicide. The increase in risk is large, typically 2 to 10 times that in homes without guns, depending on the sample population (e.g., adolescents vs. older adults) and
My paper is going to be about the reasons why the government should not take away our gun safety. Owning a gun makes people better, they able to protect and defend their homes and family. Having a gun is also our right to keep and bear arms which is guaranteed the Constitutional and the Bill of Rights of the United States of America. People without guns are assaulted or murdered by criminals with guns everyday. Also there are less accidental deaths. There are more reasons why we should not take away our guns, but I think the three that I have given are good enough to start off with.
Gun control is an ongoing debate and will never stop because there will always be that one person to testify against it and get it going again. In this year of an election, many politicians have stated the need for gun control, but their reasoning is not logical. There may be a need for gun control, but the laws that are in place now have gone too far. Too many laws create too many restrictions, and maybe they are there to protect citizens, but they also encourage lawlessness. They also start riots and other things like that because people are pushing for so many gun control laws and guns are being banned.
Imagine a typical day in a small suburban town in southwestern Virginia. It’s around 9:00 am, and you are in your French class. Then, all of a sudden, you hear banging noises coming from outside your classroom. This is the true story of the Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University shooting in April 2007 as told by Colin Goddard. Goddard was shot four times by the gunman: three bullets to the hip and one bullet to the shoulder. He still carries three bullets with him today and has a titanium rod in his body. The shooter had a history of mental illnesses and should not have qualified to purchase firearms. However, due to ineffective and inefficient gun control laws, the shooter was still able to purchase weapons. The United States
