Have you ever struggled on homework before? I have and sometimes it is because that inappropriate homework may produce little or no benefit, it may even increase student achievement, and stress. Some people think that homework is just to review what you did in school, but it isn’t always. Students should not have homework because homework can cause stress, students are involved in many after school activities, and most importantly, students need more free-time. First of all, homework is a big stressor to many students. According to Stanford News, “Researchers used survey data to examine perceptions about homework…$4,317 students from a high-performing high schools in upper-middle-class California communities. 56% of the students, consider homework a primary source of stress, according to the survey data. 43% viewed tests as a primary stressor, while 33% put the pressure to get good grade in that category. Less than 1% of the students said homework was not a stressor. This is important because it proves that …show more content…
According to New York Times, “Students are so much more active outside of school now-- with soccer, sports,dance,-- that even if homework might be the same amount, it’s more difficult to manage,” said Anne Wallace, the director for guidance at the middle and high schools in Rye Neck. I can relate to this because fact because I sometimes have a hard time managing homework and sports. Stanford News also stated that, “The results offer empirical evidence that many student struggle to find balance between homework, extracurricular activities, and social time, the researchers said. Many students felt forced or obligated to choose homework over developing other talents or skills. I can’t imagine myself choosing homework over an activity. From the research, you can tell that students don’t have enough time to do activities and
Homework is a thing that should be a something to do at school. Homework can be a distress so why should we have homework. Homework is something that is supposed to help you but I don't think it does. A lot of people hate homework. Homework is just something that is boring.
To start off, here are some reasons why children should have less homework. All students should get less homework on a daily basis because too much can cause a great deal of stress, too much time is required to complete it, and it impacts free time and sleep. Too much homework can cause stress in a student and lead to health issues in the body and
Students should not have homework. First here are my reasons why some kids don't do it . According to resch 10 % out of 20% students don't do homework. Scond students should have time for some fun stuff. 20 % out of 6 % students play games 8 hours a day in school and students have game, clubs, stuff and go until 8/9 hours a night and don't get a nuff sleep. Third homework sometimes it reck the sports. And Kids don't study and kids don't use class time they talk instead of doing homework. Next kids don't fish there homework don't want to do it. 30% out 40 % do it in team team study is only 42 minutes. After school 15 minutes go to relaxing that why we should have no homework.
We all view the benefits of homework differently. Homework can have many effects but it’s not as helpful to everyone as one may think. It can prove to be more stressful than beneficial, can confuse you more than help you, and doesn’t 100% help standardized testing. People need to understand what homework really is and how beneficial it actually is. They need to understand that homework doesn’t always help and that it can prove to be less helpful than
I believe, as a student, that homework is just a tool that teachers use to keep us busy. Being a student who has received homework for various years, I have found that homework causes me a lot of stress (Ethos). Homework causes kids to get very stressed out, it causes stress in their families, and studies show that it does not improve test scores. Harris Cooper, a worker at Duke University (Ethos), found out that, doing more than 60 to 90 minute of homework in middle school and more than 2 hours in high school is associated with much lower scores (Logos). This just shows that homework is a useless item that students are forced to do. Firstly, students have to wake up from seven until two o'clock everyday,
In the beginning of the twentieth century homework was viewed as an exceptional practice that helped students learn through practice and repetition. In recent years parents and educators were concerned that homework is taking away from “social experience, outdoor recreation, and creative activities” These experiences are necessary to a good childhood. So, let’s think about it, is homework necessary for success in school?
Shopping at the mall and hanging out with friends is much more important than doing homework. Why are students required to do homework anyway? It’s a waste of time so they should not be required to do homework. Homework is causing stress, which is resulting in students spending less quality time with their families as well as with their friends. It is also causing students to feel burned out and to not be engaged with school as they should be. Even though students need to learn how to manage their time more effectively, including budgeting time to complete homework assignments, they should not be required to do homework. Students should not be required to do homework because it stresses out students.
When lots of homework is given to an student it can cause stress because not all students understand all the homework given. This also happens because some students don't pay attention in class to understand how to even do homework. Something else that causes this to happen is that some students wait for last minute to do homework because they don't understand it. Stress isn't good for students body because when it came to stress, more than 70 percent of students said they were “often or always stressed over schoolwork,” with 56 percent listing homework as a primary stressor. Another reason why HOMEWORK GIVES STUDENTS STRESS is because a group of Australian researchers found that when more time was spent on homework students were getting lower scores. My last reason why HOMEWORK GIVES STUDENTS STRESS because the group of Australian researchers also found that too much homework can also cause lead pupils to begin suffering from depression. This is why HOMEWORK GIVES HOMEWORK
Have you ever wanted to just shred up your homework or throw it out the window and have no consequences? Kids are assigned daily homework from the time they start kindergarten at the ripe young age of five. Is it really necessary? Does it even help better learning or even higher test scores? The amount of homework we do wastes time, money, paper, and trees because it’s practically the exact same thing we did in class that day. Homework causes kid’s and teen’s frustration, tiredness, little time for other activities and possibly even a loss of interest in their education. It also keeps everyone up; it has kids and teens staying up until they finish it, the parents trying to help them and the teachers grading it. So, I think that homework is
Students should not have homework because teachers have seven hours in the day to teach in the day that should be plenty of time to teach us in the day for whatever we need to learn and homework gets in the way of people’s sports. Students also have to stay up late at night to finish their homework and that might cause kids to have sleeping problems and then they wont work as hard in class because they are
Homework is a large contributing factor to a student’s stress.Researchers surveyed students in 10 high-performing schools in California, and found that 56% of the students stated that homework was a primary stressor (Strauss). Reducing the amount of homework would be more beneficial to students than not. As students go throughout the school day the homework they get from each class piles up. Many students believe that homework is pointless since some teachers never look it over, and give a small amount of points for all of their work. Now this is not to say that homework should be worth more points. Rather, the amount of homework should be equal to the
In Finland, the Finnish believe that less is more. Less homework outside the classroom leads to better teachers inside the classroom. The United States also needs to understand that children need more time to be children. In Finland, children do not attend school until they are 7 years of age and socially and emotionally ready to learn complex tasks. In the United States, a child must be enrolled in school by the age of 6 or the parent/s and/or guardians could face criminal negligence charges.
The majority of students have, at one point or another, wished for less homework. For some student’s homework is not a big issue but for other students it can take hours and even days to do all their homework. That wasted time could be used for enjoyment or learning life skills instead of homework. Nine in ten high school students reported feeling stressed about homework (Galloway 4). So, should students get less homework? Yes, students should receive less homework because it improves their well-being by reducing stress and its impacts on health, increasing leisure time, and showing that homework does not affect grades significantly.
When a class is almost over and a teacher starts assigning homework, every student's heart drops. When students have an excess of homework, they do not do as well. Even though homework is a good tool to help teachers teach students subjects, teachers should give less homework because too much homework causes mental health issues in students and less homework helps improve test scores.
Students spend hours doing it, teachers spend hours checking it. Homework is sometimes a burden to teachers and students but still it is necessary. Some people doubt homework's effectiveness, but teachers and researchers agree homework is essential. Homework helps students get better grades in school.
