People have stood up for their beliefs all throughout history, and have faced many consequences for doing so. One example of a man standing up for his beliefs is in 1892 a man by the name of Homer Plessy was taken to court for challenging the Separate Car Act in Louisiana (Konkoly, “Plessy v. Ferguson”). For that reason many people believe that the best thing to do is “play possum” and wait for the conflict to fix itself. However, they are wrong. When faced with a conflict it is important to stand up for your beliefs. Here, Wiesel explains that one’s freedom can depend on someone else speaking up for what they believe in. One’s ability to speak up can influence a vast number of things and even help them avoid making bad decisions. It is important to be courageous and speak your mind because it can save others from making choices that will affect them negatively later. Throughout the course of humanity, people’s opinions and beliefs have drifted the course of society throughout the ages. Our founding fathers embrace this idea when birthing a new nation. Standing up for what you believe is important because you can influence the populace, prevent opposition taking the upper hand, and provide improvements.

Every Individual comes to a point in their life when he or she must take a stand for what he or she believes in. For some, this may mean coming to the defense of other people, for others taking a stand could mean holding firm to beliefs or morals. In any case taking a stand is part of the human experience. Realizations, reformations, revelations, and revolutions have been brought forth in history because a dauntless individual stood firm for what he or she held to be true.

Everyone should stand up for what they believe in no matter the consequences. Throughout history and even right now in the present, people and myself have seen people stand up for what they believe in.

If you asked for advice from people, most would say, "just put your head down and blend into the crowd." But where would we be today if great thinkers like Thomas Edison just "blended in"? To be frank, America would be quite unlightened. Society brainwashes anyone into thinking or saying what society wants people to say or think. No matter what though, sticking up for what you believe in should always be important to everyone. Standing out of the crowd to make a point for what you believe in is always the right thing to do even if it seems wrong.
