Why You Should Stay On Off Campus

When paying large amounts of money, most people like to get the most out of what they pay for. Students all across the country pay thousands of dollars to live on campus housing in educational institutions. At Valdosta State University, there are nine residential halls on campus with most of them being freshman dorms. The on-campus housing follows a strict policy that states only two people can be checked in per student. Many students agree that there should be more than two people who are allowed to check in at any of the given halls here on campus. The dorms should allow at least four people to be checked in at a time by each resident student. There could be a cap to the capacity at four, but that is a reasonable number as to how many people can come hangout in each dorm.

Today, young people live in an environment in which many judge beauty on a superficial level, overspending budget margins for college or the student cannot afford to go to college at that year. Others such as social influences of the classroom, outside of the classroom, parents and teachers can have a profound effect on the college student too. These influences often meet with the students at multiple points in their lives. It depends on the student if they ignore, embrace or follow these influences that comes to pass. Is it expected to do as the others do? The real question is if all of these specific influences and individuals alter our lives for better or worse.

In conclusion, it takes time to develop and implement new policies and procedures at any institution. The Vice President of Student Affairs and Enrollment Management at each location must assess current practices before they can develop a plan to redesign each facility. Once each location has been properly evaluated, then, the leaders will have a better understanding of the needs and cost associated with the developing the new One Stop Student Services Model. As a leader in this particular situation, I believe that both the democratic and bureaucratic leadership approaches are the best fit the models to resolve the issues. However, I also believe that depending on the assessment, and the data of the current practices and services will be better

Ball State University is a very reputable school with a lot of well-thought-out policies. Since 1918, Ball State has maintained a well-organized university, which is impressive when you consider the large enrollment number. However, one policy that Ball State could improve is the visitation policy. The current visitation policy is generally one of the biggest criticisms with Ball State, and for good reason. The current policy does not permit guests over in the dorms past midnight on weeknights. The reason why the policy is a problem is because it hinders the students’ academic experience, as it would deny study groups from meeting in a dorm past midnight. A feasible solution that Ball State could employ would be to extend the visitation policy to twenty-four hour visitation, but increase the consequences if hall rules are broken. This would be a more effective way of teaching responsibility, as well as allowing students to gain more academic independence.

Have you ever felt that colleges have unfair policy, but us as students can’t do anything about it? We all have a purpose on why we go to college, we want to make something out ourselves. sometimes we find that the withdrawing from a class is very difficult to accept, having to go to work getting out late not being able to make it in time, and sometime spending too much time memorizing for your quiz, not being able to write down notes. Every college has a policy that they go by, students should have the privilege to use them. One of the most unfair policy are withdrawing, not letting students use their notes on quizzes and test, and absences. College campuses are notorious for controversial problems. There are debates over actions taken based on race, gender, economics, politics, etc. Moreover, most of these problems have no single right or wrong solution, but some solutions are definitely better than others. While writing this essay, I researched many articles on controversial problems on college campuses and compared them to my campus. At Ball State University, there are many mandatory policies for students living on and/or off of campus. One particular policy that really stood out to me, was the “Noise and Quiet Hours Policy”. This specific rule is only applicable to students living on campus in a dorm. On Ball State’s website, the policy claims that anything that could be considered noisy and a disruption, such as, watching TV, listening to the radio, singing, yelling, etc, should be limited and turned down when asked. When walking around campus on the weekends, whether the weather is nice or not, you encounter very few people if any. You can’t help wondering where everyone is. You ponder maybe they went home or they are going off campus with their friends to go to the mall or party. It is not beneficial that numerous people leave campus on the weekends. If students stay on campus, they are cooped up in their dorm rooms all day not wanting to leave. A major aspect of college besides acquiring an education is getting to be social and connect with your school and the people around you. That is not even possible, despite the fact that you hardly ever run across a good deal of people. The fact is, Walsh University does not provide nearly enough weekend activities to keep students on campus. Weekend activities need to be provided not only for the social aspect, but for an abundance of more reasons. Students can be creative and relieve some of their weeks stress through activities. Furthermore, students can obtain some physical activity or even learn some leadership skills. Having a movie night each Friday night, hosting parties that don’t involve alcohol, or even putting on a Dodgeball tournament in the gym, can help keep students on campus. As a student hoping to attend competitive schools, I have taken considerably more classes than the average student. Specifically for my senior year, I requested seven classes. With only size spots in the day, one specific opportunity has allowed to keep my schedule intact. Online courses. With an online course, I was able to preserve my complete schedule and extra classes. Without this opportunity, I would have had to drop one of the classes that helped me be competitive for a UC.

Students living on campus don’t have to worry about time because they live in the college. On the other hand, students who commute to school, have to worry about getting to class on time. Students living on campus don’t have to waste money on transportation or food since it is all covered under a plan. Unlike commuters, who aren’t covered under a plan, they have to pay more money to get to school as well as for food. Students who live on campus tend to know more people and they know more about what’s going on around campus. However, students, who commute, don’t have that advantage because they are home most of the time. Living on campus can be more beneficial than living at home in many ways.
