Cintho’s story has Ensign and the Moor plotting to kill Desdemona and the captain. The Captain (Cassio) gets a much more grievous wound, having his leg completely cut off, which might have been hard to do on stage at the time. In “Un Capitano Moro” The Moor and the Ensign plot to kill Desdemona finally settling on murder made to look like an accident. The Moor will lie in bed with the Ensign dealing the death blow to Desdemona with a sock full of sand. The pair then hide the murder with the ceiling being pulled down onto Desdemona’s dead body. The Ensign still wants the downfall of the Moor. so the Ensign convinces the Captain he knows who cut off his leg, and will tell him once they get to Venice. The Ensign blames everything on the Moor, and the Signoria orders the Moor brought back to torture the truth out of him. Once returned to Venice the Moor cannot be broken. After man days of not breaking Moor is banished and finally killed by Desdemona’s family.
