The Battle of Hastings took place on Senlac Hill. Senlac Hill is located 7 miles or approximately 11 kilometres north-west of Hastings. This is where the battle got its name from. The battle took place on the 14th of October 1066. The battle of Hastings had been fought from 9 in the morning until dusk. The battle had lasted approximately lasted 9 to 10 hours. This was because William the conqueror was getting rid of the troops that are left fighting for King Harold himself. The battle of Hastings was fought by the Normans and the English. The army sizes were around 5000 to 7000 people on each side with each person armed with armour, swords, shields and many more weapons (figure 2). People know what happened at the battle of Hastings because it was recorded on the Bayeux Tapestry (figure 3) by his son William 2. The battle of Hastings was an important event because it was a battle on who would be king of England. William 1 and Harold 2 went to battle with each other because they both wanted to be king of England. After the battle between William and Harold, William had come out on top and was crowned king of England. (Year
One reason why William won the Battle of Hastings was because of his preparation and readiness for the battle. His army were provided with cavalry that were trained to kick, bite and head-butt. This is shown in the Bayeux Tapestry and source 3 where there are soldiers seen fighting on horses. I know that William’s half-brother organised the creation of the tapestry so the information on it is likely to be accurate. This meant William won the Battle of Hastings because he had an extra weapon that the English didn’t have therefore could surprise them, attack and leave more damage.
Harold could have been victories if he kept his wall strong and not charged down hill. The main reasons William won were that the English charged down hill and that gave them an opportunity.
On the 14th of October 1066, Duke William of Normandy defeated King Harold at the Battle of Hastings. His win could be summed up by the fact that William was a better leader. Other factors that contributed to William’s victory include: William was better prepared, the English army was severely weakened as Harold had just fought off an invasion in the North of England, and Harold made a fatal mistake of prematurely entering the Battle of Hastings.
William the conqueror in the battle of hastings. September 27 is when things started going William’s way, the wind shifted and started moving them right into England. Directly after reaching shore William decided to make his move and as stated in the document "William I." “William rallied the fleeing horsemen, however, and they turned and slaughtered the foot soldiers chasing them. On two subsequent occasions, William’s horsemen feigned retreat, which fooled Harold’s soldiers, who were then killed by their opponents. Harold’s brothers were also killed early in the battle. Toward nightfall the king himself fell, struck in the eye by an arrow according to Norman accounts, and the English gave up.” (par.1) this quote shows that William knew what he was doing and did the right thing and also that he wasn’t scared. William was about to become a ruler of another country.
The Battle of Hastings took place in October of the year 1066. It was fought between the Normans (French) and the Anglo-Saxons (English). The English were led by Harold II, while the French were led by William of Normandy. William of Normandy made some key decisions in the battle that allowed his army to defeat the English. William of Normandy followed Sun Tzu's Art of War and because of the he went on to win the battle. William of Normandy won the battle by following Sun Tzu's teachings of Weak points & Strong, Strategy and tactics, and leading by example.
Arguably the most important factor in the exertion of power over the English was the ability by the Normans to act militarily. The warlike attitude of the Normans, combined with the religious aspects that will be discussed later, provided them with a ready and capable army with which to support William’s claim to the throne. The early years of William’s rule, after the 1066 defeat of Harold, emerged as a sort of military occupation within England by the Normans. These years were crucial in the Norman advance within England. When William came to England he arrived with a large support of military men and much of these supporting military men remained in England because of their military duties. This army aided William not only in the initial battle against Harold, but later as well, through their
So, It has three days since news passed of the Declaration of Independence and I have been thinking about it since. It was and is still very shocking to hear that the colonies are actually coming through with breaking away from Britain. Here in Boston, King George III has taken away countless rights from us and forced soldiers into our homes. That is just plain wrong and I am more then willing to fight for my freedom in these situations. What do I even have to loose, I am as poor as a church mouse, I have only a few friends and my small family is so far away. How I see it, the people who wrote this Declaration of Independence just want the rights they should have had in the first place.
Thesis statement - Without the help of William the Conqueror, England would not be as powerful a country as it is today. (1)
William the Conqueror: a powerful man who was taking what was rightfully his, or an illegitimate son thirsty for power, only history can tell if his actions were an act of justice. This debate contains a lot of confusion between promises, traditions overlapping, the support of the people, and proven powerful enough to rule. After understanding the conflicts at the time, history has proven that William the Conqueror proved to have a legitimate claim to the throne, much more than his competition at the time. In order to understand history, we have to look back and see how we got to this point, starting with the set-up for this situation.
The beginning of the Norman Conquest took place seven miles from Hastings, England on Senlac Hill. Childless King Edward the Confessor, the last king of the Anglo-Saxon royal line, was killed on January 1066, which set a struggle between several claimants to his throne.William his successor in 1051 was involved in a marriage with a lack of an heir promising the throne to different parties throughout his reign as king, including Harold Godwinson Harold was crowned (Jan 5, 1066)
After constantly being attacked he was forced to seek king henry of France who molded him and made him to the ruthless leader he was to become. After leaving Normandy for so long, William made his return back in 1047 and asserted his authority destroying all of the rebels after that making the claim as the undisputed Duke of Normandy. William of Normandy matured into a tall man with red hair. During this time The Duke of Normandy went to visit his cousin Edward the confessor, It was during this visit that he would be promised William the kingdom should he die. The true heir was Edgar Atheling who is Edwards great nephew, but he was still a child who knew very little about England, but Edward who was appointed the king in 1042 promised him in that right.
William I became known as William the Conqueror through his will and determination. William gained power through his father and soon he climbed high enough to conquer England and become its new king.

It is said that Prostitution is wrong because the prostitute sells his or her body. This is no different from professional athletes, they are selling their bodies. Models, sperm donors, and actors all legally & consensually sell their bodies in return for a profit. Every year a prostitute is raped 19 times, kidnapped 10 times, and beaten repeatedly; yet, the prostitute is still considered the criminal. Prostitution should be decriminalized because the labor chore of prostitution is a form of work, Regulated prostitution is safer for the prostitute and their client, and people have the right of personal choice of selling their body.
