I later realized that I should try to get some of my friends and classmates involved too. l started out my junior year. One thing our teacher tried to teach us was the acts of random kindness. After practicing random acts of kindness throughout the school, I mentioned the idea of volunteering a couple of hours with the Angel Tree. I also encouraged our school’s Student Council to help. The club adopted two angels. By doing so, this gave the students the desire to want to volunteer again the following year. This year, we had Beta club, student council and two dual credit classes, a total of 40-50 students, volunteer at the warehouse for 2 days. Some even came back during Christmas Break and volunteered at the Distribution Day. Not only is it important to lead and serve others, but one should also encourage those around him or her to serve others as
Time is a valuable item to most people, but taking time to help other is much more precious. No matter how a person devotes their time volunteering, they will benefit, as well as the persons or person they have helped. The effects of volunteering are: becoming more humble, seeing the happiness volunteering brings to others, and developing excellent social skills. As Erma Bombeck once said, “Volunteers are the only human beings on the face of the earth who reflect this nation’s compassion, unselfish caring, patience, and just plain love for one another” (“Volunteering at FineQuotes”). She describes volunteering just as it should be. We should love one another and take care of each other instead of tearing each other apart. Volunteering is something everybody should try at least one time in their life. Volunteering has magnificent benefits and is time well
I volunteered at the Gonzales City volleyball clinic where I assisted the head coach by helping the young volleyball players learn how to set, serve, hit, and bump. I did this three times a week for three hours each day. The clinic consisted of children from ages 7-14 and each age group went in at different times. Also, I did community service at my local St. Theodore Church by helping in the jumping house at the church carnival. For the past four seasons I helped fundraise at the high school football games by selling food at the stadium snack bar. In every home football game I would stay for more than half of the game in the snack
Since the summer of eighth grade I have volunteered at Essentia Health Hospital making tie blankets for inpatients. These patients are able to take the blankets home with them when they are well enough to leave the hospital. Moreover, I volunteer at my local church for a once-a-month food share. I help unload the food from the truck, sort out the rotten produce, and distribute the food among the shareholders. Additionally, I clean up highways and trails as a part of Green Club ,and I partake in numerous other volunteer opportunities within my school
I do try to help my daughter who does volunteering for her school classes as much as I can through different volunteering opportunities. As of now, I am solely focused on the completion of my degree which leads me to little to no time for volunteering at this time. This does not mean that in the future I am not willing to volunteer my times to a better cause and to give back. As mentioned above, as of now I do not volunteer mainly for the reason that I want to focus on my class loads and having plenty of time to study in efforts to fully understand the material given to better myself as a future
For the last three years, I have helped organize and assist in coordinating my town’s Breakfast with Santa program. Each year the program is hosted at a local daycare. The program provides each child with a wrapped gift and a Christmas related book. They are also given the opportunity to take pictures with Santa and make crafts. For many of the children, the only gifts that they receive for Christmas are those donated by volunteers. As a
Many of my volunteer opportunites involved kids. Helping the youth of my community, and any other community, brings bright minds to the future and ones that can continue the trend. Not only has volunteering helped children, but it also benefited me. I’ve built wonderful friendships and leadership skills from giving back. I learned the values of hard work and dedication.

For most, lending a hand to someone only really counts for family members and friends. A person never really thinks about all the outside people in the world that need a little help. When the holiday season comes around people may not have the money to feed their families or buy Christmas gifts for their kids. Many agencies broadcast on television how to help these families, not just in your state but around the world. Like most, I for one have never volunteered, but I have donated. For a person that is looking to start volunteering, a little research should be done on different places. I for one like The Salvation Army as an organization. I always see them around the holiday season outside with the bells and red pails. Before volunteering
At holiday time several community organizations collect toys and gifts for younger children usually up to age 12, but donations for teenagers are always low. This means many of the teens living below the poverty level will receive no gifts during the holiday season.
Start by donating clothes, or canned food to a food bank or holding a neighborhood canned food drive. Teach younger kids in your community sports or help at a vacation Bible school. Personally, I love helping at VBS, by the end of the week the kids aren’t just kids who were dragged to the church by their parents and don’t want to be there, but are happy to come. They looked up to me and the other counselors for an example for when they get older, and in their faith. A majority of the kids in a town that I went to with youth group to lead and VBS felt as if they needed to be mischievous and do the opposite of what the leaders told them to do. I hope by the time we left they had changed their perspective and want to learn more about the
Discussing about volunteering to teenagers should be the first step for a better life, since teenagers are the future of tomorrow and they will leave a mark from yesterday. Volunteering has been such an important matter, that schools in many countries around the world established that 12th grade students will need certain hours of community service in order to graduate. But the frequent answers all the schools are getting are “Why do I need to volunteer? I have better things to do!” What people are forgetting is that each one of them is part of a community, a community that is not perfect and that the government sometimes forgets about their problems or needs, because obviously the government needs to take care of other things that require more attention. People are not only helping others, they are also helping themselves (Volunteering).
There are many different places that you can volunteer at, and they are very good choices. Places like the Salvation Army, Meals on Wheels, and Red Cross are all excellent places to volunteer, and I respect and encourage any person that is willing to put in time for an organization and not get anything out of it. I know how hard it is to say to yourself that you will get up and help an organization for nothing because I have done it. I also know the how rewarding it is to volunteer. This is partially one of the reasons that I volunteer. I personally prefer an organization, called Camp of the Rising Son. I prefer to volunteer at Camp of the Rising Son as a cabin counselor because of the fact that they are a Christian organization that teaches young children about Christ, and that I already have the necessary skills needed to excel, and because of the impact it makes on my life personally.
During the holiday seasons, people like to volunteer for different service projects; whether it’d be cooking for the homeless, buying gifts for the less fortunate, or donating goods or money for charity. Giving or helping people can save and make people happy. One of the best benefits when someone serves is knowing the impact on the person. A few of the clubs at Athens High School have had the opportunity to serve others this holiday season.
My job while I was volunteering was to read and play games with these kids to make sure they feel like they are being cared for even though they do not live with their families. Every Tuesday and Thursday, I was given the opportunity to meet several different kids of all ages and spend time with them like we were their best friends. Some of
