I am applying to the University of Wisconsin-Madison, because it is a large school with outstanding credentials, with a strong community and lots of school spirit. This is exactly what I am looking for for in my college environment. I want a large school population where I can meet new people every day, get involved in many activities, and where I can make connections and build relationships with my professors. I also look forward to living in snow again - I moved from Denmark to California a few years ago, and I miss the winter weather!
Wisco offers a top-ranked psychology program, which is the area of study I am passionate about. It's size and scope is ideal as it will allow me to find and focus on an area of specialty, as well as take advantage of research and internship opportunities. As a separate interest, I would like to take classes in the Scandinavian Studies department - which ties into my Danish nationality and background. It would be a great opportunity to study more about my heritage and further perfect my language skills.
One of the reasons why I am attracted to Wisco is its number of clubs and organizations. I look forward to exploring more of the opportunities to

I was diagnosed with a second concussion. I missed 4 days of school to try and recover as quickly as possible and then returned to school, attending half days for another week, to stay on top of my classes. My senior year classes are challenging, and I worked hard and persistently to catch up this past semester. In my most difficult subject, my economics teacher noted that I was his most persistent student and he enjoyed having me in his class on my progress report. I went through this recovery process in my Junior year, and I knew what I had to do to finish well last semester, and I know I will finish even stronger next
Tell us why you decided to apply to the University of Wisconsin-Madison. In addition, share with us the academic, extracurricular, or research opportunities you would take advantage of as a student. If selected for admission, I plan to take advantage of IMSA’s unique learning opportunities by working diligently in all of my classes, joining clubs and teams to learn from my peers, and participating in Student Inquiry and Research to satisfy my curiosity and allow for more independent work. I come from a small high school with approximately one hundred students per class. Funding is a constant problem and learning opportunities are thus very limited. I’ve attempted to take as many science and math classes as possible, as well as world history, foreign language, and an advanced English course, but I still do not feel challenged. My school has done what it can to enhance my learning experience, but my math and science classes aren’t quite
The primary reason I want to attend FAU is because of the superb reputation and great Psychology Program. My goal is to become an adolescent psychologist, and, with the help of the FAU staff, I know I can take on the demanding courses that I’m sure
Everyone has a dream or something they want to follow in life. Some want material gain while others want to help as many people as they can. I’m not saying wanting material gain is a bad thing, but what I am saying is that for me, money is not the number one concern when my dream is to help others. My hunger to help others only grows by the day. Because of what’s going on in the world we live in today, I believe that it is important that those who are less fortunate than others have the assistance they need to get to an even playing field, health-wise, with others.
I’ve loved art and graphic design for a long time, however, anything above simple crafts were not valued at my elementary or middle school. So, eager to be in an environment that supported my interests I auditioned and was accepted into Los Angeles County High School for the Arts (LACHSA). At LACHSA I explored many different types of art mediums, and discovered satisfaction from the problem solving that goes with designing and making sculptures. My interest in graphic design also was able to thrive in the environment, outside of class I able to make posters for school productions, which lead to design jobs outside of the school. While taking a communication design class I discovered my passion for product-based design: I enjoyed creating a
Prior to high school, my uncle was my chemistry teacher. As a food scientist, he was to me a great inventor who knew everything about the magic of taste, texture, and aroma; I still remember his lecture on “good” chocolate and how cocoa butter—solid at room temperature—melts readily in our mouths. Raised on an early appreciation for the power of applied science, I am now driven toward chemical science by a desire to uncover solutions to challenges in the modern world.
Experiencing hardships and my resilience to overcome them is the main reason I chose to pursue a Master’s of Social Work (MSW) degree. My familiarity with asking for resources, as a former foster youth, a number of my interactions involved social workers. I utilized resources as a transition aged youth; and I believe it was those same resources that kept me focused on my future and school. I became homeless at eighteen years of age and it was transitional housing, through The Department of Children and Family Services (DCFS) that gave me hope and direction.
The first time I’ve ever visited Cheney and laid eyes on EWU, I was about 15 years old. I was on a field trip from Jenkins High School, located in Chewelah, WA. I remembered being floored by EWU’s theatre arts program, the vastness of the campus, and diversity of the student body. I craved to be apart of it. However, I felt that it was all beyond my ability at that point in my life.
Witnessing blood slowly running down the face of a woman who had been in a car accident and blood gushing out of her lower abdomen as a ten year old was unlike anything I had ever seen. The chaotic scenes and the rush of providing help immediately really fascinates me. I knew ages ago exactly what I was passionate about. The only thing left to do was to experience and apply what I learned in order to become better at what I wanted to do. Hands on experience can influence young adults to do more in the community and reach beyond their abilities.
First and foremost - my life is dedicated to the service of others. Through my time serving as Parkwood Beta President and the State President of the North Carolina Beta Club, I have understood the importance of a servant’s heart. I have had the honor of being Student Body President and Class President here Parkwood, and during my tenure I provided vital assistance and planning to events that included, Spring Fling, Winterfest, Powderpuff, Teacher Appreciation Week, dances, pep rallies; and, simple facilitation and leadership within the PWHS Student Council at large. Moreover, I have had the great opportunity of serving on the Executive Board of the PTSO for a few years now and served as the student liaison between the PTSO and the school. I had the honor of assisting with the Parkwood Pride 5K,
My desire to be an osteopathic physician came after attending an OMM session during my gap years as a research fellow at the NIH. This experience contributed to my interest in osteopathic medicine, as I was intrigued by the musculoskeletal manipulation techniques, and deeply appreciated the hands-on, holistic approach to patient care. I feel strongly that training as an osteopath, will prove invaluable in my career as I work deliver quality treatment to underserved communities.
The results showed that I was not fully back to 100% levels measured prior to the accident, but they did show that my brain had recovered to a point where I could gradually start going back to normal activities. I quickly understood that the task was going to be even harder than I had previously imagined. I not only had to take all the long overdue tests and exams that were put on hold during my concussion period, but I also had to keep up with the new material as the classes advanced. I accepted that I would not have the chance to gradually build up through my studies, but that I would have to rush through the overdue exams with one night to study per subject. I felt that I didn’t have any other option but to lower my own expectations for that quarter. I knew that bad results were inevitable and that it didn’t matter how much effort I would put in for that one night. I made a conscious decision that I would plow through the first quarter and use the following quarters to
Im specifically interested in the WYN program because my dream job and goal is to become a Registered Nurse. The WYN program helps high school students like me prepare for college nursing careers and other related careers. What caught my eye was the fact that it offers a one-week residential program. I've never been part of a residential program but its something id like to experience. In school I was part of the cycling club which ended in November and im looking forward to join cross country or track.
