Anthoney DiModica Anthoney DiModica When a song plays, sometimes it can just jump out and hit whoever is listening and take that person away. others can just be bland and blah. There are some songs though that do have meaning and a story behind them. “House In the Hills” by Wiz Khalifa tells the story about the artist's life, and how people focus on some of his bad habits instead of focusing on all of the good he has done for himself, and all the beneficial things he has accomplished. People tend to look at the stereotypical black person and focus on all of the bad situations that they may have come from, instead of looking for the good in the person and looking at the paths that they have made for themselves. Everyone has their own story; it is up to them to tell it, and it is up to others to …show more content…
If someone has a bad habit people judge them and base the way they view them because their bad habit and not by the good that they have done for themselves or their families. In this song by Wiz Khalifa, he tells us how people talk about his bad habits by saying, “What they don't talk about the kid that came from nothin'; Who stuck to what he believed in and turned himself to something great; They should use that story to motivate; But instead they'd rather focus on the fact that he's a pothead; Not the fact there's not a lot where I live, 25 and not dead.” In these verses, Wiz Khalifa is saying that in his life people don’t talk about how he has gotten away from the bad places in his life. Fans, disbelievers, media, and whoever else want to focus on his bad habit of smoking, and they try ruining his reputation because of that. Khalifa
Listening to the lyrics of your favorite song you automatically start to have a connection with that song. Then the song starts to represent you and your life because of the lyrics. Some songs show about being a fighter, having freedom, or just being you. There's a billion of songs out there and there's a billion of people who connect with those songs. Usually the most common reason why some songs represent people is by their past experience. For me some songs represent me because I decided to follow my dreams, living in the moment, and get right back up.
Has it ever occurred to you that this generation tries to search for the next best thing? Is it like a business man try to look for the next best thing that everyone is buying? I mean if other people do it and there perfectly fine doing it we assume that we could do it and we think we will be just fine as well. Take those examples and try to use it with music. Do you think that what we listen to can affect us in any way or not? Maybe and maybe not, but some of us tend to get influenced by what they put into their heads. Not everything that we see or do can import negative thought or feelings, but listening is a part of that category as well. Therefore, what these artists are trying to do is trying to use a rhetorical device to tell us that
Cultural phenomenon, rapper Kendrick Lamar has embraced a growing minority centered culture in America through his album “To Pimp A butterfly” this album conveys themes of hardship for minorities and cultural uprising. One of the singles on this album “Alright” simply tells black audiences that with faith everything will be alright. He uses the Lyrics “Alls my life I has to fight, nigga .Alls my life I...Hard times like God. Bad trips like: ‘God!’ Nazareth, I 'm fucked up..Homie you fucked up..But if God got us then we gon ' be alright” These lyrics simply tell suppressed minorities that despite hardship there is hope within our communities. . Months prior to the release of Kendrick Lamar’s “Alright” several attacks from white police officers happened in the black community. A common case in this uproar was the “Mike Brown case”. In this case a black man was shot dead after allegedly robbing a local gas station. Kendrick simply responded to these seemingly racial attacks with his album to “Pimp a Butterfly”. To pimp a butterfly simply means to use your influence to the best of its ability to make a meaningful impact. With tracks like “Alright” Kendrick Lamar does just that. The Primary themes and issues conveyed in this song are white supremacy, racism and black uprising
They drew graffiti on sides of buildings and created their own music, which made their hardships into works of art. These troubled kids began to create music without instruments. Instead of using instruments they used words; it was entirely vocal music. This music depicted the hardships of the city at the time and the way the kids felt. This was the beginning of Hip Hop Rap music. Many of these harmonies, internal rhymes, and lyrics became expressions of the emotions that they were feeling at that time. It was the anger, the despair, the emptiness, the poverty, the sorrow, and the loneliness they felt for the times that they lived in. The history of Hip Hop Rap music proved to McBride that it does tell a story and reflects life as it is lived by young people who felt trapped in the ghettos of New York City. It also proved to him that even rap music takes true artistic ability and expresses real emotions of real people when they feel a certain way.
The brighter side of media about African Americans on the news is they have a very strong place in the political world. That is thanks to Barrack Obama and many others in the Government who show people they can become anything they really want and they don’t have to be at the bottom. Every day they try to help them get on a better path in their lives to be able to support their children in the future so they can have better lives for their children. They just need them to put forth and effort so they can show the community its not as hard as it looks. And with this we can make a new world for us all to live in.
R&B and Country music actually had a meaning. Reminiscing about the days when I use to enjoy the story that was implied in music. There was moments I would find myself listening to the lyrics and actually connecting with artist, because at some point my life either I was relating to the artist are been down the same road before. Those was the early 90’s music and the early 2000’s songs. Women and men took pride in what they were singing. I sincerely believe it wasn’t just for the green dollar bill. In my opinion I believe those artist of that era was trying to reach someone mentally and emotionally by sharing their musical gift. To be connected with a musician lyrics was an extraordinary feeling. Music was like a peaceful river silently flowing through your ear canal and reaching your heart. Oh, my those was the days of pure perfection when a musical gifted artist can create a song so meaningful that years later those same lyrics was still connected to you like a limb on your body. R & B songs in the early era made love the epitome of perfection. Country music was always the type lyrics that can help you get through any emotional struggle. Subsequently, songs that are being portray by some artist are despicable beyond capacity. Although, some artist are extremely successful by the upcoming music; I am still baffle by the public
The black male has often been depicted as a thug, hoodlum, a gangster, and as a man with an itchy trigger finger. This is obviously why many young people have grown to be subtly racist their toward fellow Americans, while others have grown such hatred that they form radical organizations such as the Ku Klux Klan, Neo Nazis, and skinheads. Hate crimes are still evident and not as uncommon as many people
The most important part of this music culture is the lyrics. Lyrics are used to express the artist’s emotions and struggles. Everybody has their own story, just as an author would write a story about it, a hip hop artist would sing about it. Some artists even try to send out messages trough their songs such as Lupe fiasco and Immortal Technique. Whatever they try to do with their songs the lyrics are the most important part to their music. Caleb exclaimed that in his songs that he talks about all aspects of love as well as trying to spread the message that people can do whatever they want and that they should never let anyone stop them. This message is evident in his song called “Blow My Mind,” in which he talks about the different things he would do different from the usually routine day and he challenges you to think of what would you do if it was not the usually routine day. There are many ways that this music is transmitted one of the man ways is by CDs even though iPods are eliminating the need for CDs they are still popular among transmitting
As I sit here and think about what it is to be Black in America. I realize how there are so many factors that affect African American people daily. One of the most damaging forces tearing at young black people in America today is the popular culture's image of what an "authentic" black person is supposed to look like and how that person is supposed to act. People assume all black males where raised in a single parent home. People assume that if you are a black male, that you sale drugs or you are really great in some type of sport. If you are a black female, they assume you will have kids by different men, referred to as “baby daddy” or they may not even know who the fathers of their children are. This same society expects African
Rap is a style of popular music of US black American and Hispanic origin, featuring rap with an electronic backing. Hip hop culture is just like electricity. It can be use positively or negatively. Even though many people may say that hip hop music has no intellectual values or that many of the hip hop artists are uneducated, but they’ve never realized how responsible hop artists’ hip are and give their fans advice about lifestyles and education. Music allows an artist to give those whose voice may not be loud enough to be heard. Their music can cover any issue of poverty, discrimination, segregation, people of color, oppression, and etc. The lyrics are the key part to get any point across but also any footage that accompanies gives the viewer more of an insight into these issues. Many artist/bands like Bob Dylan, Fort Minor, Joyner Lucas, Hurray for the Riff Raff, and Michael Jackson address many issues the class talked about and the point of view of those who are viewed as minorities. The music these artists and bands produce gives the listener an idea of what exactly is happening in the world and what has happened. Each song individually covers the importance that we, as humans, must change the way we think and act and listen to the problems others have and even if it does not affect us.
For many years, the youth have been known for singing along to their favorite song and taking that song as whole and using it as their motto for life. It may seem that sometimes these kids do not know what is being said in the music but this shows that they do know what the lyrics are saying. According to Franklin B. Krohn and Frances L. Suazo in their article “Contemporary Urban Music: Controversial Messages in Hip-Hop and Rap Lyrics,” many teenagers and minority groups view rappers as their spokesmen because of their ability to speak in street language and bluntly express their frustration (Krohn, 1995). Unfortunately, hip hop lyrics usually tend to talk about drugs, sex and violence leading kids to think that everything they hear is okay and that is how they have to live their life. Yet, there are artists out there who take their lyricist skills to give positive lyrics and messages in their music, but these songs are not often played in the mainstream.
Socialization is the process which people learn the attitudes, values, and behaviors that are appropriate for members of a culture. My family experiences relate to me by learning the proper way to behave, morals to believe, and knowing what to value in life. Between the views and attitudes of my parents, they both believed that women deserve equal rights with men and stood up for equality. There wasn’t any conflicting ideas within my family about the nature and “proper” role of women. There are generational attitudes in the way my parents grew up verses myself. For an example, my parents grew up in a society of where girls are expected to learn how to clean and cook in the country, while boys were expected to run the farm and do agriculture.
One of his first biggest hits was the song, “Black and Yellow” which was released back in 2011. Even after claiming his song to be number one on iTunes, he continues to produce music, and selling out tickets for his concerts and tours to date. Along with bringing home quite a luxurious paycheck, his name and face have been seen on merchandise, billboards, and other public displays. Wiz Khalifa has made it clear through his music that he has a strong passion towards smoking pot, as someone who is in the public eye, he has confidently expressed being high as strength through his music. With this being said, he has definitely rallied up a fan base of stoners who are quite admirable of his lifestyle.
