(Ryan, 2006). Before that time, there were few professions for women. The woman did numerous jobs that were unheard of before the war. Women’s roles have changed greatly throughout history. As the advancement of culture, laws, and ideas altered ways of life, women’s lives also evolved in numerous aspects of society. Women’s roles changed greatly between 1815 and 1860. During this time, family dynamics changed as the mothers that were placed at the center of the household were given greater freedoms. In addition, women had more opportunity to take on jobs in the workplace. Women also fought for reform movements that altered their ways of life in the community. During the reform era of the United States, factors such as religion, education, and reforms greatly changed women’s roles in the family, workplace, and society.

Throughout the nineteenth century, the role of women began to change. Slowly the role of women went from strict domestic work, to having their own say in their own reform groups. After the American Revolution, women began to have a say in what went on during their everyday lives or the lives of their children and husbands. A woman having her own say was something new for men to have to deal with, but they were willing to listen. Women do not get the right to vote nationally until the 1920s, but the start of their suffrage and political movement begins in the nineteenth century with the changing times of the Industrial Revolution and life after the American Revolution.

The early 1900’s marked an important time for the United States. Many major world events occurred such as World War II and the Great Depression. Many historians agree that the beginning of this decade was indeed a dark time full off violence, struggle, and hopelessness. However, many countries faced problems of their own. The United States faced many issues, but one stands out among the rest and is an issue that is still faced in today’s world. That issue is the one of women in the workplace.

On June 4th, 1919 Women's suffrage was passed by Congress. This was later called the 19th Amendment. This Amendment granted women the right to vote. Women could now do what men have done, and they can do it just as good or better. Before this Amendment was ratified, women had been taken for granted. They had the same rights as slaves, if not less. For many years women have not had a voice in society, they had been less than a man. Women did all of the housework, took care of the children, cooked, and many more things an average “ housewife” did.

Women in several past generations have suffered unequality to men. From unfair wages to being disregarded in the workforce, women have been looked down upon for simply being a woman. Suffragists in the early 1900’s protested for their rights, and it impacted the perception of women around the world. Women are now able to have freedom and equals rights because of the women’s suffrage movement and the 19th amendment.

Women have come a long way. They started off unable to vote or even have equal rights to now it is hope that a woman may potentially be president. People of different races and people with different sexualities faced many many struggles with discrimination and being looked down upon to now being elected for several levels of government.unable

From the 1900’s to 2016, a lot has changed for women. We are still expected as the main caregiver and many people still do stay at home while the man works but for many that is not the “ideal” thing. One common current event that shows that is our political issues. We currently have a woman running for president that is very close to being elected in November. Back in the 1900’s, this would have never of been possible to achieve and was not even allowed. This shows how much has changed in this little amount of time allowing women to achieve bigger things then we were allowed

We have progressed a lot as a society. No longer are women stuck at home cooking and taking care of children. Now, more than ever, women have the same opportunities to achieve just as much men. There are no jobs that men do that women can’t. Women can vote, play

Before 1920 Most women particularly white women did not work outside the home. They performed traditional domestic responsibilities of conserving food and fuel resources in the early part of the war.

Gender roles have been changing throughout the centuries with both men and women. The most and drastic change has occurred in our 21st century to women. Women are now viewed as equals in the work and home, they are able to achieve just as much as men and no longer have limits suppressing them. There have been limits put on women since the beginning of time, women were to attend to the house and children but never other responsibilities beyond that. This change in gender roles has shaped our society in numerous ways making new jobs for women and breaking through social norms. Throughout history the role of women has dramatically changed, first with women being primary caregivers and up keepers of the house to women being able to have their own careers and lastly to being equal to men and no longer being inferior to them.

Before the 20th century women stayed home took care for their kids and kept the house spotless they were forced to depend on there husbands for everything. Those years are over, it was time for us to become dependent not fanatically but in the way that we no longer had to be discriminated or seen as the weaker gender. We wanted to work in a well paid job and prove to those who had no faith in us that we are capable of doing what man can do. In this century we have changed the way they look at women with great effort they have succeeded. A women's role has changed tremendously and is making its greatest impact in our society today. Many years ago, women's contribution to society was limited and controlled by men. Women are standing tall and are playing a major role in many important areas. Women's role has changed at an accelerating rate and have part in areas such as Politics, Professional Training Jobs, Medicine,Business and Law. Formerly they were not part of any political matter, but they have advanced in many aspects. For example, women have attained power and have been growing in political office.

In 1920, women won the right to vote and they were gradually moving into the male-dominated labor force, but gender roles were not changing much. Due to the World War II draft, many women entered the labor force and even helped run the country. Upon the return of the veterans, many women were forced back into their homes. However, the opportunities for women were broadening and some women began making careers for themselves outside of the home. The 1960’s saw many feminist movements and in 1963 the Equal Pay Act was passed by Congress which enticed more women to get out of the house and into better careers.
