Gender roles put an idea into children’s brains about the way society dictates how men and women should or should not act. These stereotypes can be harmful, as they often lead to sexism and misogyny. While gender roles may deem what is appropriate for each gender, they can also set expectations of people in society, some of which can be unachievable. This can put a pressure on young children that can follow them through their education and career. Gender-based stereotypes are also dangerous in the sense that if someone refuses to conform to traditional gender ideals, most of the time, they are ridiculed and harassed.

Currently, this generation lies in a time of unprecedented growth and change. The last few decades have endured years of transformation thereby allowing for the evolution of the human mind. The evolution of the human mind and its thought process all lies within cultural beliefs; beliefs affect attitudes and attitudes invertedly affect behavior. These behaviors may implement a form of prejudice and discrimination upon a certain group of individuals. Perhaps the most concurred concept revolving around attitudes and behaviors rests upon gender roles. Having many gender stereotypes illustrated in the media, it definitely has a negative on various individuals. For example, in Disney’s “Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs,” Snow White cooks and cleans for her seven male counterparts. She does this on a daily basis as the men dig for diamonds. In addition, at the end of the movie, a prince comes and saves her. Based on this information, Snow White exemplifies what a woman is only capable of doing. Intermittently, they are used against women in the United States as a whole, who are vulnerable in areas of predestined abilities to achieve a task based on sex. When I was fifteen sitting in my drivers-ed class, boys always made jokes about how women can not drive. This is a stereotype that has been applied to women for many years. Obviously, we know this stereotype is wrong because there are women drivers on the road everyday. Insurance rates and data actually support the opposite point of view from this stereotype. The examination of the effect of the application of make-up on women driver distractions (examination 2) will focus on female drivers as the respondents since women are the common users of make-ups.
