Throughout history, women always had to fight for their rights. As society grew and became more and more modern, but the idea of women having rights still seemed too far fetched. Woman in some countries are not allowed the simplest of things, such as having the right to drive or to decide if they do or don’t want children. As women, they have always had to fight for their rights as they were never handed to us like they were for men. The question still remains, why? Why are they the ones who must suffer and fight? Why are they the ones who are treated as less important than men? Then the possibility pops up, what is women had equal rights as men? How would our society be? Not only that, even if we are granted the right, why are we not treated equally. In America today, women no longer have to fight for the right to work, yet they do face another inequality issue, money. On average, a working woman makes $.75 for every dollar a man makes. Society fails to realize the impact women around the world makes on it. I have been taught a very young age that I should never divorce my husband, yet he can divorce me. In some countries, women don’t even have a chance for divorce, no matter how abusive their husband can get. Woman around the world are consistently deemed less important than men and are not given equal right for marriage, voting, and jobs.
It is not unheard of for countries to treat their women the way they treat their men. Countries like Switzerland and Sweden are giving
In Western industrialized nations, where women have achieved relative equality with men under the law, the emphasis tends to be on economic and social issues. These include equal pay, equal funding for medical research, more government- and employer-sponsored child care, and an end to images in advertising and the media that belittle women. Elsewhere, activists focus on changing cultural, religious, and legal traditions that treat women as property. In some African nations, for example, a man by custom pays a bride price to the family of a woman he wishes to marry. Critics say this practice really amounts to the selling of
Despite how far our society has come in treating women as equals to men, we still have many more mountains to climb before both genders are completely equal. Since the dawn of time, women have been treated as less than men and in
Women’s rights in America in late 1800’s women’s right to vote women in medicine and the equal rights for women are the 3 main points that were big in the 1800’s.
For as long as most can remember, women have never been viewed as equal to men. Women have fought for many rights including the right to vote, run for office, and for everyday things such as equal pay, the right to job listings, getting an education, and even having a credit card in their own name.
In america the rights women have gained are good, on the other hand people still think there are still some things to overcome. In most places women have had the right to vote. Some say that women remain at a disadvantage in education as well and women continue to make up more than most of students who drop out before completing the fourth grade, as well as making up for half of the world is one billion adults. Each year the number of females entering into higher educational programs and universities increases greatly. Another great thing for women is that of own body rights. In many nations abortions are legal and women have a wide variety of different things , such as birth control. This right in many nations remains as a central continuing debate issue.
As you walk down the street today, what do you notice about the people around you? Maybe there’s a white male, an Asian female, and a Latin male. Other than visual cues, there is no indication that there are any differences between one person or another. Any one person, whether black, white, male, or female, can enter any establishment, get a job, buy a piece of land, or vote in an election. However, this has not always been the case. Most of these people at one point or another had limited rights in the United States. Specifically, in the 1800’s, women had limited rights, especially after marriage. Once a woman was wed, she was no longer able to take in her own wages, sign a contract, or own any property. What were the rights that women were lacking, and where do we stand on those issues now? Have we come as far as we think we have with women’s rights? We have a widespread misconceived notion that women have equal rights, but we still have a ways to go. On the surface, it seems that we are all equal finally. However, there are still issues that are still being argued after over 150 years of being in front of our government.
Women are not a minority anymore and yet they earn less than men. In the United States, a woman earns 77 cents for every dollar a man earns. The situation gets worse by the race of the woman, for example, an African-American woman gets 64 cents and a Hispanic one 54 cents for every dollar a white man does. Although salary equality for women is a subject that is a hot topic for years, in general females tempt to find a male partner who earns more money than them. To women is more important to find a partner who earns more money than them, as men like it to be the same way. If there were no salary gap between genders, half of the percentage of women would be unable to find the significant other. In order for a woman to increase their economic
I personally feel that America has made great strides when it comes to equality for women. However, we still have a lot of work to do. I feel like women do great in leadership roles because deep down we all have that mother instinct. If we love the company we are with then we want to take care of the workers as best as possible. I like how you mentioned why do women judge other women? I feel like society makes us compete with one another when it comes to beauty, money, jobs, clothes, etc. If we stopped judging each other and started lifting each other up we would be a force to reckon with.
Women have been struggling for equality and equal rights for years. Females in history have been pushed around for countless ages due to the fact that women have been the lower class.Women have made great progress in the world through protests and great struggle.Women are looked down upon in many different cultures. Through the ages women have become smarter and more developed thinking processes. With this being said women should have equal rights due to the fact women are no different from the average male; everybody should be equal and have a fair chance at succeeding.
Equal rights for women has been in an ongoing conversation throughout America, especially when it comes to the workforce. Equal pay and opportunity has been fought for, for many years. But can the workforce really be equal if the women do not do their part to strive and stay in work? In Sheryl Sandberg's Ted Talk “Why We Have Too Few Women Leaders” she discusses the topic of how women can rise to the top and become leaders in the world by staying in their line of work. She explains that although equality for women has progressed, leadership positions often lack female occupants. (Sandberg, 2010, page 12) She backs her statements using logos as she goes farther into detail by sharing statistical data. Sandberg gives three fairly simple
Women have always been treated as second class citizens in the United States, they have battled for equal treatment and equal rights. Although women have more rights than they used to, there is still much progress to be made. There is a clear discrimination against women to this day; there’s a disadvantage when it comes to the workplace, they get paid less than men and are less likely to have authority positions. To self-identify as a feminist is very stigmatized, it has been difficult to move away from the negative connotations the term has. Feminists are made out to be men-hating lesbians, however, feminism is about equal treatment and even men can self-identify as such. As a woman of color I identify with Bell Hooks, FEMINISM IS FOR EVERYBODY Passionate Politics. Women of color needed feminism that was more inclusive and that advocated for the rights of ALL women, and not just white women. Women are objectified and are a reflection of a patriarchal society.
For many years, women have aimed for gaining equality with men. They’re opportunities were taken away because of the fact that they were women. Overtime feminism has expanded and diversified in many different aspects including approach and priorities. The changes in them are result of many different social economic groups of women because of the various goals set for methods of creating change, which are implemented within the movement. The feminist movement has been trying to give equal rights to women who have been destitute of their equality and privileges that man have never given them. Feminism is beneficial to men, women, and their families because it is allowing everyone to have an equal opportunity in life to achieve all they can without any discrimination based on their sex.
Women have been through a lot of history of unequal rights over time. They fought to achieve equality in different areas. Women have gained more rights as time has passed on but they still are treated unfairly in some areas which is not fair or right. Women deserve equal rights equal pay and to be treated equally.
Women have fought for equal rights since the late 1800s. Throughout the years, they have transformed the idea that women should only work within the home and take care of the children to women being able to work in various jobs outside of the home. In 1916, Jeannette Rankin was the first woman ever be elected to the United States House of Representatives. On August 10, 1920, women earned the right to vote when the nineteenth amendment was passed ("Milestones for Women".) After all these years, women continue to fight for a variety of equal rights; one of these rights is being able to serve in a military combat unit. Women should be able to serve in a combat unit because they have worked alongside men in a variety of jobs without complications, they have proven to be effective in military settings, and they are physically capable of working in a combat unit.
We're in the 21st century and still women are being harassed, are not receiving equal pay, same leadership opportunities, treatment in the workplace, and other equal rights that women should have. We've been through many movements including the Women’s Suffrage March in 2017, which was a peaceful protest in which both women and men came out to support each other after the election, and protested about their personal rights as women. We haven't progressed much except for more people speaking up about this. It's basically mild segregation based on gender.
