In the most direct comparison, the lack of women in Star Trek is a huge motivation for the writings of the Star Trek fandom. In comparison musicals such as Wicked directly highlight women, especially the idea of women not in a relationship. Most of the art pieces created from the Wicked Fandom depict Elphaba and Galinda not as powerless love interests but as powerful independent women. The fandom celebrates the fact that their musical was the first major musical not to focus on a romance. Therefore, although the fandom celebrates the fact that their musical is inclusive, it does not feel the need to include more women in the storyline because powerful independent women are already in the storyline.

Being in musical theater for 5 years, I have experienced how the theater fandom has led me to evolve the original work. Before every performance one of my cast members would come up to me and tell me a fan fiction they found on tumblr about my character. They would tell me about an alternate love interest or backstory. This was always interesting to hear, but more interestingly, would affect how I played the character. I could no longer perceive the character in the same way and thus I felt like I had to act out the character in a different way. For example, one year I played Johanna in Sweeney Todd. My friends told me a fanfic about an hypothesized backstory to Johanna. I could no longer view her as simply terrified of her stepfather, but rather mourning the loss of her freedom and mom. Therefore, when I acted as Johannah I added an element of deep sorrow which I felt was more representative to her. I changed my voice to sound more upset, sang with an added length and depth, and widened my eyes to be perceived as sad. This in turn altered the original work because the audience was viewing a version of Johannah that had an added bit of sadness that was not originally written for her. In theater, the audience is not receiving the direct representation of a character. They are simply receiving an interpretation of a character. Therefore, as the fandom evolves, every actor will have a different interpretation of the character and will evolve the way the character is perceived by the
Possible Themes: (Identify five possible themes for discussion). Theme is a central message or insight into life revealed by literary work.
The midterm will draw on the following major themes we have discussed so far during the course. As you study, please consider not only each individual theme, but also the ways in which these themes may be related to one another. Essay questions will be drawn from these themes, but may ask you to relate two or more of them within the same question. The best answers will synthesize thematic material we have discussed in lecture with specific details from both lecture and readings.
For example in "12 Angry Men" juror 3 was very aggressive and seemed like he was just a bully but at the end if the movie he broke down and started crying showing that he was dealing with something else except aggression but maybe depression which changed my whole prospective of this character while watching the movie. Another example that showed difference between the movie and the play was that in the movie we actually got to see the boy who was getting convicted while in the play they didn't even give that much of a detailed description. I think they actually showed this boy to give it more emotion about what was happening in the story. Another character in the movie that was the same as in the play was juror two because in both, the movie and the play he was always very quiet, and could be persuaded into what other wanted him to
The theme I'm deciding to choose is pride. Pride is shown in the play Antigone by Sophocles, as well as the essay The Lottery by Shirley Jackson. In both stories pride is used by many characters and at times it affects both stories in different ways. It affects the outcomes of both stories and their outcomes.
My theme was fear. Fear is constantly involved with everyone everyday. It can be from having a fear of heights or fear of failing a test. Fear impacts in society because everyone fears of something. For example, one of the biggest fears in this world currently is the presidency of Donald Trump. Many people of the United States especially immigrants fear that Donald Trump isn’t going to treat them fairly. The immigrants show how scared they are and how their lives are about to change because of Donald Trump. They show their fears throughout social media, the news, and even in public protest. They fear of the outcome of Donald Trump. Fear has contributed in this world through many occasions and people have learned how to deal with it.
Theme is a general topic that teaches the reader a life lesson. The theme of acceptance is frequently used in books as a life lesson to let people know they can be different. Acceptance is a big part of life in the past, present and becoming even more important in our world nowadays. Friendships, relationships, etc rely on acceptance to keep their connection. The world depends on acceptance to keep the nations together and not disowning a nation because of their differences but, the world is not all this way. As Clay Aiken states “In my ideal world, no child would suffer. Charitable instincts would be prevail. There would be global acceptance of all different types of people.” This shows that acceptance is not used in enough in our plant.
Stacy Wolf’s main argument is that the Wicked was about queer romantic relationship of Elphaba and Glinda that why the young generation connected with it. Stacy compare Wicked to movies and TV shows that teens loves. She mention how Wicked went even farther that just portraying women as powerful and friendship by a queer romance between Elphaba and Glinda.
“It’s taken the fantasy genre decades to grow out of its image as a juvenile boys’ club obsessed with cleavage and crossbows” (Griner). Though science fiction has attempted to break the gender stereotypes against female characters, the genre still has a long way to go. Currently, the majority of female characters are still portrayed as over-sexualized, and dependent on male characters. When women are shown in heroic female roles, they are still belittled for not being a man. Seiter claims that “Many of the more stereotyped features of the portrayal of women…are also accurate reflections of the sexist reality of our society” (21). It is unfortunate that this claim is accurate, but it is. Science fiction is a fictional genre, providing an opportunity to break all stereotypes and create a world from scratch. But gender stereotypes have been ingrained into the world, making them difficult to break when producing fictional stories. Sexism has created a gender bias in science fiction that needs to be changed.
The musicals Billy Elliot and Grease present both conventional and unconventional representations of gender throughout. Both musicals also seem to obscure the message of the underlying gender stereotyping issues by overshadowing them with elements such as music, dance and costume.
One example of this is told by the Camille Paglia Biography. When she first watched the Disney movie Snow White, she is said to have described the witch as “elegant and imperious” (Camille Paglia Biography). Camille also enjoyed dressing up as many of her favorite characters on Halloween each year including but not
One main idea that is explored in the novel is Friendship. Friendship is explored in this novel as there are many situations where the characters use teamwork or loyalty to help each other pass tough challenges. A theme that is related to this idea is friendship is key to success and achieving a just future. This is proof when Raphael helps Gardo on page 23 "quote important part of the sentence here" And rephrase rest of sentence here. Further, explain this quote, and explain why it backs up your topic sentence.

Throughout many pays and novels, women have had important roles of helping form the main characters, in the way they think, move or change the story. Women have always been subordinate to men all through history, but in plays, novels, short stories, etc, they have been given large enforcing roles, showing the power within women. William Shakespeare and Sophocles use guilt, pride, and influence to demonstrate the importance of the women’s role to support the main characters in both the plays of Macbeth and Antigone.
