Can you believe that various factors in the workplace have been discovered that show women being treated unequally to their male coworkers? From the first working women to now, there has been a slight increase in the amount of equality women have to men at work. Although we have succeeded to make it farther up the food chain, men are often still treated as though they are superior to women. I believe that in the year 2016, women are still being discriminated against in the workplace as a result of feminism.
I understand that there is quite a bit of opposition on this subject. Some people do not believe that women should be treated as equals to men. A lot of people are just clinging to the tradition of men being the superior gender, and women being the inferior gender. They tend to lack faith in women 's strengths, and our capability to the same amount of work that men can do. While I believe that everyone has a right to their own opinion, I have found that things are not equal between men and women especially in the workplace. Across modern day America, the gender gap remains unnaturally wide. The gap between genders is worse in some states that others. The state that comes closest to equality between men and women in yearly pay is the District of Columbia with women earning 90% of what men made in the year 2014. In the 1800s women were looked upon as second-class citizens, depriving them the right to vote, run for office, to become educated or even to have any type of profession. After women were married they were not allowed to own their own property, wages/income, or sign contracts. After decades of intense political activities and rallies women were granted the right to vote in the year 1920. Women decided to take a stand as one and fight for equality amongst men and women, even if it meant dying for women in the future to one day cast a vote or run in the election.

As you walk down the street today, what do you notice about the people around you? Maybe there’s a white male, an Asian female, and a Latin male. Other than visual cues, there is no indication that there are any differences between one person or another. Any one person, whether black, white, male, or female, can enter any establishment, get a job, buy a piece of land, or vote in an election. However, this has not always been the case. Most of these people at one point or another had limited rights in the United States. Specifically, in the 1800’s, women had limited rights, especially after marriage. Once a woman was wed, she was no longer able to take in her own wages, sign a contract, or own any property. What were the rights that women were lacking, and where do we stand on those issues now? Have we come as far as we think we have with women’s rights? We have a widespread misconceived notion that women have equal rights, but we still have a ways to go. On the surface, it seems that we are all equal finally. However, there are still issues that are still being argued after over 150 years of being in front of our government.
Women’s suffrage has stretched from the 1800’s to present day, as women have struggled to have the same civil and constitutional rights as men in politics and be appreciated as equals in the workforce. Groups of women known as suffragists questioned the customary views of women’s roles. Eventually our nation has evolved and realized that male-controlled societies suppress women’s rights. From the beginning steps taken in 1850 to 2013 with women earning combat roles in the military, women’s roles to society, their work ethic, and progressively public aptitude, as a whole should be allowed the right to vote, help the country grow economically, politically, and have the overall rights equal to those of men.
People were not only discriminated due to their race but some of their gender, which affected their political rights in a multitude of ways. Another example is that 97% of court cases involving dark magic is directed towards women accused of witchcraft and found that 78% of the women are convicted and hung. This shows that in the 16th century, people thought women were generally inferior to men and treated them as such politically.
Women in general have been discriminated by men that don’t believe in the power of women. Over the course of time, some men discriminate women by particular things that make them men are superior then women. Women are strong not only physically but emotionally and mentally, but some men don’t seem to notice yet. There are people that think men and women aren’t in the same level, and they don’t give women the opportunity to show it. Throughout years in America people have found evidences that there is a wage gap between two genders. Women deserve to be equally paid just as men are being paid. Both genders work the same amount of hours, but have different pay checks; this is unfair because women shouldn’t be paid less just for being a woman. This is an act of discrimination for both genders from society.

There are numerous examples of how the wage gap is still apparent in today’s society. Women only make 77% of what men earn in the same occupation (Carnevale, 1). Meaning women make only 77 cents to every dollar men earn. This gap in wages is backed up with no probable cause for the wage gap between genders. After seeing these statistics it easy to see women are discriminated down to the cent based on their gender.
Over the years, women have faced many obstacles and barriers to overcome discrimination and receive the same opportunities available to the opposite sex. In the early 1900s, it was very uncommon for women to have access to contraceptives or health education. Then one day, a doctor and a nurse tended to a women at home who was suffering from having an abortion. Just like many women in the U.S. at this time, she was wanting to learn how to prevent pregnancies so she did not have to have any more abortions. In the United States, there are many human equal rights for women, but they are insufficient to create equality. Despite of many equality rules gender inequality still exists and that’s the fact. In history, women were not allowed to study or work. In modern world women are achieving educational goals and also working. Does that mean women are getting equal treatments? Women work just as hard as men I believe that men and women who work the same hours should get paid the same amount.
