Hero of the New Age Wide eyed, heart pounding, glued to their chairs while the credits roll after an exhilarating and masterful movie adaptation, one name and one certainty remains distinctly clear: millions of people worldwide just found their new favorite superhero. Wonder Woman, Amazonian Princess of Themyscira, daughter of Zeus, arguably one of the most contemporary and progressive heroes of our time. In her remarkable quest to save the world in the midst of World War I along with her partner Steve Trevor, Diana Prince becomes an unyielding symbol of the feminist movement and an advocate for love and hope. She is both vulnerably human and astonishingly superhuman. Wonder Woman is a force to be reckoned with. In line with the classic hero, Beowulf, she showcases a myriad of hero archetype attributes. She is descended from a powerful warrior family, embarks on an epic journey from her home, is willing to sacrifice herself and possesses supernatural strength and combat skills. She has grit. Yet, she fights not just for material riches or eternal glory, but for righteousness and compassion. Even as she witnesses “the worst of this world, and the best” and all “the terrible things men do to each other in the name of hatred,” she determines that “only love can save this world” (http://www.imdb.com).
